For the Athlete's Dinner, do we use our wristbands to get in or do we get a physical ticket?

I'm stressed out...

Kids are out of school and may be until Thursday due to no power in town they go to School

Joule isn't working again...annoying the heck out of me..expensive piece of crap right now

Laptop has issue so won't turn on and many things I need for IMFL I need to get from that

Halloween in the snow with extra kids coming over..oh joy

Need to ride bike and pack it love doing that

Packing...

Dang shoulder is acting up again

Deep breath ...

On Saturday you will have a few hours (up to 17 if you go for the full moneys worth) of no cell phone, no email, no computers. you will be catered to by hundreds of people trying to give you food and drink. And there is no training plan for Sunday.

Wristband for athlete. Physical ticket and/or sign in sheet for others.

For those who have flown with a bike case(mine a tule)  before ,when  you showed up at the ticket counter was a smooth out the bike on scale and get  barcode tag put on and off you go or did you have to put up with a strugglle with the ticket agent.

I have flown with my bike many times.  Its usually not an issue.  The people in line with you will be curious as to what is in that great big case.

I've tried putting the bike on last, hiding it behind me right before it goes onto the scale, hiding it in front of the counter, but ultimately it gets charged $50. That's with Southwest though. I haven't flown with any other airline because all I've heard are horror stories of fees reaching $150 each way.

I am  reasonably sure we met last year standing in line and have most likely passed each other on the Van Fleet trail.

I would suggest going to the web site of whatever airline you are flying and look up the bike fee because they may try to charge you another fee.  On USAirways you would pay less buying a ticket for your bike.

I went on  Delta website and it said $150 but I weighed  my packed bike at work and its only 50 pounds . So I meet the weight just not the size cirteria UGH!!  $150 is better than $209 UPS 2 day insured.

If they cut you a break by only charging for excess baggage or the oversize fee rather than the bike fee, save the receipt for use on the way back when you will probably not be the first person that day the check-in agent has seen with a bike case. Usually, they will charge you the same rate.

'Twas the night before Ironman, and in the hotel
Not a person was sleeping, and that’s just as well

Their bags were all packed with the utmost of care
In hopes that all needed gear still would be there

But tossing and turning in their beds that night
They couldn’t help thinking that all was not right

“What have I forgotten?” raced through all their heads
While trying to get back to sleep in their beds.

Of body glide, of helmets, of wetsuits, and Gu
they pictured transition rooms over and through,

'Till finally the clock on the corner struck three
And up they all got to rehydrate and pee

Before long the racers arrived at the site
And all were excited, and some had much fright

The signal was given; they swam with much care
and hoped that the finish line soon would be there

The day would be long with much joy and much strife
But all should reflect on this piece of advice:

Remember to smile, and not blow your pace
Happy IM to all, and to all a good race!

Enjoy your day...see you at the finish line (I'm catching 6-9)

I needed this!  Printing it out and posting it on my mirror with that poem from the "You are an Ironman" book.  Great stuff! Thanks.

Thanks Kathy,

My Wife and I decided she should probably stay home with our 14 year old Lab so I am on my own driving from Delaware.  It will be nice to hang out with others.  It my 51st birthday Nov. 4th!  I am an open water diver.  Hoping to perhaps get a dive in  Anyone else interested?  Its been a few years for me.

Just wondering, in the same way that altitude training helps O2 retention (little more complicated I know - more red blood cells etc) but would diving & the extra pressure reduced O2 capacity (damage red blood cells).Anyways. Not really a serious query, just idle pondering

Increased pressure raises partial pressure of Oxygen, so you would get hyperoxygen while breathing at depth.  This is why hyperbaric Oxygen therapy is used to treat wounds, burns and various other ailments (to include "the bends").  Benefit from that increased O2 dissipates quickly upon return to atmospheric pressure, so should be no affect on an athlete.  No red blood cell damage or anything negative though.

Just got an e-mail from the town manager that power restoration has not even begun yet because of the number of falled trees obstructing roads.  The crews will not start to restore power until all the downed trees are cleared, which at best will begin tomorrow afternoon.

So it looks like we're without power until we leave for Florida on Wednesday morning.  I'm not looking forward to trying to pack in the dark.  Its going to be interesting to see what I forgot once we get down to PCB.

So I guess complaining that our pool (outside) is only 77 degrees tonight for our last swim won't cut it huh?

Tomorrow morning I'll be on the trainer in the pitch black.  Sun doesn't come up here until 7:15 a.m. or so and I need to get a bike-run in. This is totally throwing me off my game.  I love routine and this is anything but.

Do most people change after the swim? I plan on wearing a tri suit for the bike and run but not sure if I should change into this after the swim.  Thoughts?

Feel the same way.  I just don't have time to do get ready for this trip.  It looks like I will be picking up my bike, packing, etc on Wednesday before I leave early Thursday AM.  I can't believe I have to get up at 3am for my flight on Thursday...what was I thinking?
