I agree 100% ..... A quote that hangs on my office wall for all to see: “What we have is based upon moment-to-moment choices of what we do. In each of those moments, we choose. We either take a risk and move toward what we want, or we play it safe and choose comfort. Most of the people, most of the time, choose comfort. In the end, people either have excuses or experiences; reasons or results; buts or brilliance. They either have what they wanted or they have a detailed list of all the rational reasons why not.” -Anonymous |

That is all. Boneyard on XM is my go-to station, listening to the same music I listened to in High School. Fan of both! I wished I could recover like I did in High School too. David- great picture! When they start asking if you have cancer.. you really know you are in shape! Kyla- They finally posted the new bike course for CdA down 95. Total ascent is less than my 44 mile ride today by about a 1000 feet. Should be a faster course but probably not as pretty. Edited by cbarnes1 2012-02-10 2:39 PM |

Master 2501![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAININGChet -- thanks for the head's up on the bike course! I see the run course is the same as last year, so I stand by my earlier statement about the cold beers being available at the party houses!! Much of the bike controversy over a course change has to do with how hard it will be to train on the course now (i.e. unsafe). It's too bad, too, as the hilly farm routes out in the Hayden area were really gorgoeus. There was a cool little home-grown aid station out there too, with water/gatorade/gels and a porta-potty and a tip jar. Some former Ironman keeps it stocked during the spring, and sponsored teams donate him gels and supplie and such. Kim -- yay for your paragraph formatting!! Glad you are on the mend!! TGIF, peeps! Tomorrow is sleep-in Saturday -- my kids start school an hour earlier this year than last year (thereby preventing me from doing my morning workouts 3-4x a week, oh well!), and sleep-in days have become very special around here for everyone! |

According to my reckoning I'm in good shape but I'm getting a bit paranoid that I'm wasting away or something. I'm, heavier than Crowie but lighter than Macca! We're all about the same height. Here's a pic from last weekend (I'm the taller one), what do you think ? David - I think you look great! ... : ) ... Clearly doing something right, who cares what others are saying. That is a great idea, John. I should do something like that, my yellow sticky notes are environmentally wasteful. Not too mention the little inspirational things we can put at the bottom like you have there. Is that true, 38 weeks??? BTW, nice workout! |

Master 2501![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAININGHa ha, Kim!! I was telling John I use post-it notes too, but I'm poaching his whiteboard idea!! (We have several white boards of various sizes, as I have an OCD artiste in the house!!) My post-its inevitably blow away due to the fan and/or the breeze from my open door, and then I try to read them off of the floor, at weird angles and too far away. It's not a good system. White board = Much easier. So funny for me, I had a self-imposed test week this week. I did two bike tests and one run test. I was all super-duper excited to get "official" bike numbers for Jorge's plan, as I've been using guestimated numbers based on where I perceive my bike fitness to be. After killing myself for both tests, I was simultaneously pleased and pissed off that the numbers I now get to use are only 2-3 watts different than those I was using. WTF??!! Why bother testing?? Can't I just predict from here on out?? As my son said, "It's good that you know yourself so well." He's right, I'm secretly happy with myself that I've been training "appropriately." But I'm still pissed since testing is SO F'ING HARD!! Ha!! Oh well... Onward!!! On an entirely unrelated note, my daughter plays indoor soccer, which I LOVE because it's warm and dry for us parents. And they sell beer. She played keeper today for her first time ever (they are rotating through every player for one half this season) and it drove me to drink. She rocked it, yay for her. I got a great buzz, yay for me. I feel like such a lush copping a buzz mid-afternoon. And she's subbing in another game in about 1.5 hours, so I think I'll head back and drink more. Why not?! Tomorrow is sleep-in Sunday!! |

I'm equally curious about what's going on in that room? Is that a velour sofa next to your water heater? Not much of a man cave if you ask me! I really like that you're so into the EN model. Dineen must have had quite an effect on you! I agree with the others, how long until you get the Powertap? |

Extreme Veteran 668![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() NW Georgia | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAININGSSMinnow - 2012-02-10 12:53 PM tdl1972 - 2012-02-10 10:00 AM Ten days into this month and my goals for the month are pretty much shot already. Between problems with my foot - all good now, btw - and now allegies, I can't seem to get any consistent training in. I swam yesterday morning despite my allergies and spent the rest of the day miserable because of it. I am supposed to run this evening, but I am thinking that may not be a good idea either at this point. So my question is this: Should I just scratch the last two weeks and pick back up with my training plan and go from there, or should I try to go back a week and skip the recovery week next week since I haven't really been building a base the last two weeks anyway? FYI, the plan is geared toward a sprint at the end of April. The last two weeks were listed as "base" with a recovery week coming next week. That would have me training the next four weeks in a row before another recovery week, (unless something else falls apart)?
How much time have you really lost (missed workouts)? If it is truly 10 days, I would back the whole thing up. Plans build and if you've missed base time you will be starting at a volume higher than you've trained for, right? I would play the recovery week by ear. If you need it after those two weeks, take it. As you can see, time off for injury/illness is way worse than time off for good behavior. I missed whole three days from the first week of February and 3/4 of the run workouts this past week. I will also miss my long bike ride tomorrow and possibly more heading into next week as I am still sick. |
