Thank you for the messages.  I am not dead.  There is no crisis.  I have just locked my log while I clean up my friends list.  I have friends on my list that I don't even remember.  How sad is that?   I am a pretty private person so I only allow friends into my blog.

Just wanted to let you know so that no one worries.  I am still here.

Thank goodness, you scared me. Although I do the same thing at times, so I admit I was only scared a little. I hope all is well!

Not everyone is as loquacious as we are.     That's OK.      I too have my times when I retire into myself.     It's the INTP that I am, with the I and P off the scale.  And, at times, it is a bit overwhelming to keep up.

No.

Probably not if you want to do well at the HIM ... I pretty much always say the same thing about races, if you want to just do them for fun and finish (and you have a reasonable hope of doing so without harm to yourself or others), then knock yourself out. But considering the newby-ishness, then ... no. The training and execution of a HIM is a pretty big investment and while you might be prepared to do the sprint under your ability, like as a last long training session (which isn't horrible either) there's always the risk of something happening.

kgore - 2013-01-23 12:55 PM Yes it is--I think I read on a sign or something that it was the middle fork. It was absolutely beautiful--great stress reliever too.

I thought about you so much in W Oz, especially at the zoo.

Here is something momentous from me ... honestly I can't even think of my phobia without getting phobic and panicky, and it was extremely hard both to do this and to post this ... but I am taking baby baby baby steps toward dealing with it (still too scared to seek help) ... here goes ... I never even caught what they were, I just snapped a pic and RAN!!! Some kind of nocturnal gecko (hence the red light).

I tried to take a pic of the fantail geckos (JEEZ it is hard to even type that word!) since they were really fascinating but I got so ookied out I just couldn't.

Same old story here Manatees - Tuesday after a weekend race can't stop crying - wtf is that about?  Is it nutrition, I've tried everything!

What i want is to crawl into bed until I am feeling like my old self.

Dammit.

Sorry to hear that.  I hope there is a quick diagnosis and fix for you.

A load better today.  It's definitely hormonal because it's irrational.  That's how I always know, things that ordinarily wouldn't affect me much have me in floods of tears!  Awesome.  My poor DH - he wants to fix things make it better but there isn't much he can do.  I think men like to take action!  All I want is a hug - DD takes care of that, she's gorgeous - don't cry mummy.  Love her.

I can relate to your DH... It can be frustrating to want to help, but feel powerless to do so.  The next woman I date will  be the beneficiary of a couple years of marriage counseling that taught me how to understand my feelings and deal with them in a healthy manner.

"don't cry mummy" - when I read that, I read it with an English accent.

I always read Jo's posts with an accent.

Hahaha! Gosh I wish I had an accent!

You do. Tongue out (Taking my linguist's hat off now.)

Yep - I concur.  Something about that pic is really hot.  Not sure if it's the pants or the boots - or maybe both.

Thanks guys! Huh, who knew ... tetherball. Yer makin' me blush.

Oh, man. Tetherball is actually a sport I am good at. I was tetherball champion at my grade school. I would get on there, and no one could beat me. My mom and dad bought me my own tetherball set up to put in a reinforced hole in the ground in our back yard -- you know where they put the clothes line thingy in.

TriAya - 2013-01-22 9:51 AM Jo– you really seem to be at the mercy of your moods and it sucks to see you suffering. Other than the maca powder you might want to see a naturopath or allopath or really, any kind of path … you might want to think about hormone replacement therapy … or cognitive-behavioral therapy … but things shouldn’t have to be this tough for you. Love you to bits, don’t want to see you going to bits!

Salty – Ethiopian food, the one thing Bali is missing! Heh … my bestest buddy and I used to go eat Ethiopian food the night before long runs and then really regret it the next day. But it’s so yum. I need to figure out how to make injera (the spongy bread) at home.

Badger Jen Moose – CONGRATULATIONS! Yes! People like you and I need to be congratulated about being lame when we’re lame so we won’t be lame anymore.

Of course I made the PB cookies ... except I did so TONIGHT at 1am.

If I forgot anyone or anyone has burning desires or questions or really just feels like they need attention, hop up and down and flipper-thwack my azz.

Yanti, (or anyone) I was wondering which is 'better': a third (I already do 2 masters swims per week) longish (~2500m) swim, or two shorter (~1500m) swims?

Kirsten, I got nuthin'. I swim so badly I shouldn't be a manatee

But I will say that your distances frighten me, no matter how you slice it up. I gotta get more pool time...

Kristen, I totally forgot to answer your question - Sorry about that.

My .02 cents.  The 2 shorter 1500 meter swims would be better for your overall conditioning and training, but only if you break them up into sets.  I would do 1 long swim every other week, not every week.

Break 1 1500 meter day into sets (6 x 250, or my favorite, a combination of 10 x 100 intervals and 2 x 250).  If you can't hold a challenging interval for the 10 x 100, start with 5 x 100, then a 250, then 5 x 100, then a 250.

I would probably add this 1500 meter broken set in weekly - giving you a 3rd day per week, then would do 1 long swim on a 4th day every other week.  Does that makes sense?

So your week might look like this:

1st week:  Mon & Tues Masters... Thursday (1,500 meter broken set).

2nd week: Mon & Tues Masters....Thursday (1,500 meter broken set) - Saturday (2,500 meter long swim)

Repeat and build each week until you reach your goal.

Really curious to hear Yanti's advice on this one though...even if it totally disagrees with mine.    I am great at analyzing a swim stroke, but still building my knowledge of the body and the best way to build for the individual events of a tri.

I'm still hacking a little, but feeling almost normal. I had to stop my running streak. :-( That made me very, very sad.

TJ -- I can't give you any swimming advice, but did you notice how your leg muscles flex when you push off the wall? It was awesome. Also, not to be catty, but you are 10,000 x better than the guy in the lane next you (in your first 200m video).

Joanne -- Sorry you are feeling a little down and out. Purging my friends' list makes me feel good, for some reason.

Jo -- I hope your hormones are beginning to level out again. Since I had a surprise visit from Aunt Flo, I'm feeling great. I don't remember the last time I had a hot flash.

I'm sure I've missed a hundred things. I'll just pick up where we are now.

also, for looking at training paces, the McMillan calculator (linked in Barry's post) is a very decent place to start.
