Safe travels to everyone!!!  You have put in the time and training and Saturday will be your day.  I wish I was leaving already, but since I am only a spectator this year, I won't be leaving until Friday.  All my memories of last year are coming back.    If this is your first IM, soak everything in.  There is only one "first".

Working today too, traveling tomorrow - bike will beat me to PC.

40F ride this morning.....not gonna miss the cold weather! Hope all the other folks up here in the north east are doing ok and getting out without too much trouble......just think 70F + weather!

Off to see my "inspiration" before leaving - close friend who was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer two years ago (44 yrs old with 3 boys under the age of 7). This guy shows how it's done - since being diagnosed and while permanently on chemo he has: swum Save the Bay (1.7mile), run three 5k races, ridden the Jamestown Classic bike race twice (19mile), completed the Amica sprint tri twice (19.1mile), and to top it ALL, completed the Mooseman Olympic tri this summer!! Cancer has now spread to the brain, but he's running the Newport Bridge run with me the weekend after IMFL! Makes you realize very quickly what's important in life and not to sweat the small stuff.

Safe travels all and keep on smiling Smile

Definately keeps things in perspective for sure.  Have had a few life emergencies last week that took the wind out of my sails somewhat.

jrj0924 - 2011-11-01 8:35 AM So this is probably minor but I keep getting hung up on this, how long is the run from T1 to the bikes, I have speedplay cleats and keep thinking about running in those on wet concrete could get tricky.  Would it be better to run barefoot and put socks and shoes on by the bike...or is there no room for that?

It isn't CRAZY far, but it isn't short either.  I recall them having "carpets" down though.  So you wouldn't be running on bare wet concrete if they do that again.  Depending on where you come out of the water though you might not want to put the shoes on near the bike.  If you're in the main pack all you would do is create a traffic emergency.

Still haven't started any packing so we're without power (not even sure if it wil lbe back on when we get back from IMFL).  Its just hard to try to find everything in the dark.  Going to try to leave work early today so I can pack in the daylight before we fly out tomorrow morning.

Safe travels everyone. I am working today. We are not leaving until my wife gets off work Wednesday afternoon. It's about an 8 hour drive. Will cover 5 hours Wednesday evening then the final 3 hours early Thursday morning. I plan to see everyone at the swim on Friday.

It is hard to believe that after a year of planning, training, and nervousness....we are only days away.

150yds or so - think I got my own bike last year, so possible to put shoes on there - but I think it would be quicker to go slower on the run/walk to bike - than to stop and clean feet & put socks and shoes on at the bike.

At the bottom of the message screen - above & to left of "Submit" is "attach a file after posting" - check this and it will give you a browse option

Think files need to be in the 150kb range

Tinypic.com is cake and reduces down to a manageable size, I will however try your method on my next photo post (finish line pose?)

I need a little help/advice. Do we have to wear our race number during the bike? I thought I read somewhere that we have to wear this. Does this mean our bike number will not be good enough?

The reason for the question is I have a race belt which holds GU's. I would love to have it ready to go for the run, but do not want to carry those Gu's with me on the bike (I have a Bento box and bike jersey for what I need on the bike). If I have to use my belt on the bike too should I use a different belt than that for the run? Will I have a second race number to attach to my belt? Am I making this overly complicated, lol?

You will get two race numbers (bike /run). I always put one away and use one with a race belt and just slide it around during transition.  I don’t have a gu carrying belt so I can’t help on that.

I'm packed and heading down after daughters ball game tonight. Look forward to seeing some you at the am swim.

BTW-I'm bringing an extra wetsuit in case someone needs it. It's a 2XU size large.

It is my understanding that yes, you need to wear a number on both the bike and the run.  At all IM events I've been to (HIM only) this is the case.

I have 2 number belts.  Like you, one with pouch that I am taking on the run.  The other is one I got from some race somewhere and is just a belt without a pouch.

If you are changing shirts you could always pin it to your bike shirt then keep you belt for the run.

Or, and this is a last resort because of the time constraints in a full IM, you could wear your belt for the bike then have all your run nutrition in a baggie in T2 and take an extra 15 seconds to load your pouch   I make fun because i also have thoughts like these.  Like 15 sec is going to make or break my day.

Bike is packed

Most of my other things are packed.

Stress level is better today....I will feel better as I check things off my list.

Flying out tomorrow morning early and arriving in PCB before 11 am connecting through Baltimore.

Folks is it really only 4 days? Feels more and more real.

I have a belt for the bike for just a number, it's plain best with no spot for nutrition, and a different belt which holds gels, etc. for the run.  If you want, PM me and I can try and find one of our extra plain belts if you want it for the bike. We got several extras as freebies at race expo a while back.  Swapping belts in T2 can be done in no time and is what I prefer now.
