Early bike ride this morning with 4x10' increasing intervals...legs were kinda dead.

I have a long day of travel and meetings so this is all she wrote for today.  Hopefully I can have a good weekend of training.

Nice job Chris & Tom with the weightloss.  That is awesome.  If I can stop eating pizza and burritos maybe I can get to race weight by June .

Good morning!

James, that's a tough situation for the race.  I am with Kim - go for your goal but at the same time don't push your body too hard if it isn't happening.  No need to get it all costs when its so early in the race season.  The second half of the course will really be where your body will let you know.

For me, i did wake up in time to run this morning but I decided that since it's slow at work this week (our project has encountered some delay) i can just leave a little early and do my run in the daylight when I get home.

Also, feeling good about swimming prospects - so i kind of screwed the pooch and didn't sign up for a coached swim group early enough (read, in my off-season) that I had been part of and it was filled when i contacted the coach.   I started looking into another option that is really convenient from work and got positive response from that coach and then the previous one just emailed me to let me know that she does have space now ... so today, on lunch i'll have to work out what to do about that. I know i definitely want a coached group for both me and DH both are on the same nights and in fairly convenient locations.

Oh and this weekend is the bike show ... dangerous.  We're hoping to get a peek at the new Cervelo P5.  It should get us jazzed about the training season.  I know Rudy is not a Cervelo fan but for us, it's super cool because it's a Toronto-based company so it's kind of like our home-town bike company which is neat - even though we only have one of their bikes in our house.  hahaha - we are such nerds!

And I will not buy a bike, i  will not buy a bike, i  will not buy a bike, i will not buy a bike.  i just have to keep telling myself.  I bought my Felt B12 there on a fantastic deal - which was not expected!

Also no pacing advice for James because I don't think I've ever run that fast. . I do know from coming of a season ending illness, or coming back from a long layoff, when I did I last year I just went in with the mindset that I was enjoying being able to do it, go as hard as I canand let the chips fall where's they may. Got 2 PRs out of it. Enjoy the comeback

Fred D - 2012-03-01 12:03 PM  This group has been really great and I was wondering if anyone here is invested in continuing it beyond the 3 month normal group time? Lemme know your thoughts.
Personally, since my first HIM isn't until June which is about the time the next lot of mentor groups come close to ending, I'm more than happy to keep going!

TSimone - 2012-03-02 12:48 AM

And I did swim tonight.  45 minutes on the trainer afterwards, too.  Tonight I felt the best I've ever felt in the water.  My main set was 1x300, 3x200, 1x300.  All were 1:47-1:52/100 meters.  That's a real break through for me as I am a very slow swimmer.

Happy training folks!

I can totally empathise Tom as I'm only recently getting into the low 1:50's/100m myself (thought more often closer to just over 2:00 for anything over 200m)

Fred D - 2012-03-02 5:13 PM I had an interesting ride. Orlando is not bike friendly in general but I know a few routes. I took a wrong turn in a subdivision that was a bit lower end.mall of a sudden a dog started to chase me, really big dog and his other friend, also a big dog. I quickly out biked them and started to chuckle.... Then I found out I was heading right into a dead end!! I had to quickly loop back and blow by the dogs again. I used the 'yell as loud as I could strategy' and biked like a maniac. I was ok in the end. I found that any quick starting aggravated my achiles, so not good. I'm really at a loss there, though I suspect ts all the walking in Disney that is really doing me in. Off to Epcot soon for dinner, but definitely not in the best of places with the achiles. Trying to enjoy my family and the resort as best I can.

Two ways to improve your bike speed; ride with faster people and get chased by dogs.

Glad you made it through.

Adam, Good to see you back!

Well I can say you have to want to train.  If you can accomplish that every thing else is a piece of cake.  It just matter of executing the training without excuses.  You have been swimming so that’s a good start.  So good job there!  Now just put on your running shoes and go for a short 1-2 mile run.  You can do it.  We are here for you.

Morning peeps, hope all is well!!

Fred, ENJOY your vacation!!!!

Adam, nice to see you back!!

Raining here again, today is sweep day, a bunch of racers get together and we volunteer to sweep the race course we will use for the next 6-8 weeks.  It is a nice .8 mile loop in an industrial park, we offered to get a street sweeper, but the RD said no, racing feels much better knowing it was man power not machine power that got the course race ready, i found that interesting, but completely understood.

Fred D - 2012-03-02 6:48 AM

I like the first mile easier strategy to build up and see how you feel.

1'10 is a 7 min pace, so the only problem with an 8 min first mile is that it will make the remaining miles tougher.6:54pace for the last 9.

Should be fun.

Fred this is what I was thinking; that the time deficit would be too much to make up.

I really appreciate everyone’s input.  Some really great advice and inspirations going on.

I am leaning towards Ryan and JohnnyKay advice to do some 5-6 mile 7 minute mile tempo runs and see how I feel.  Maybe I am putting too much on the increased fitness and fresh legs before the race.  I will definitely take the day as it comes or unfolds.  This is something I have leaned a long time ago.

It should be a lot of fun.  The girl I am swimming with now and her husband are doing this race.  As are several other triathlete and runners I know.

Thank you again all I just wanted to express my appreciation.

So that is a Criterium course?  Kind of gives you guys owner ship of the course.

Against my better judgement I am going to head up Mt Lemmon today.  Just as far as I can get in the time I am suppose to bike, so not sure how far I'll get up there.  Haven't done the mountain in a while, I kind of avoid it when it is cold.  Going up might not be the best course of action on tired legs but I miss the downhill.    The joke's on me though cause once I get to the bottom its then more uphill back to the house.  Then a 30 min run.  At least the wind has finally died in Tucson.  Its been crazy this week

Great job on getting out there with the run that is the spirit!

We are fine in central PA.  I think the storms lost their energy before made it to us.  A lot of in the mid section of the states got hit badly.  Our prayers go out to them.
