For real. Your only safe refuge is the Manatees. Don't ANYBODY prove me wrong on that.

Well, speaking of weird training tools... I'll take your PVC pipe and raise you.... a ping pong ball

I use tennis balls like a foam roller for tough spots sometimes.

The ping pong ball is for breathing exercises. i.e. put your head back and keep it in the air with your breath

Hi, Pod!  Back from Ohio's Tour de Family I've Never Met and am I ever glad.  I can only be nice for so long, especially when with Mom 24-7 and the 20 relatives I didn't know I had, before getting grumpy.  My patience was definitely wearing thin after 5 days!!  On the very plus side, had a fun run with Tom last night.  He very kindly rescued me from Mom and her cousin when we couldn't figure out where the heck he was parked.  What a relief!!

So to catch up:

Jonathan TX - Congrats on your new bike.  Looks like a beaut!  Remind me: is it a replacement or another steed for the stable?

Erin - I can't do catch-up either.  I'm definitely going to have to make one of those swim batons.  What a great idea!

Yanti - a RR?!  Have things settled down so much that you got bored or did the food poisoning affect your brain?

Matt - Tornadoes, hurricanes - if you hadn't left your bike key at home, you could've been a rider in the storm. Enjoy singing that for the rest of the day, now, okay?

TJ - Hope last night's swim with the new trainer went well.  Looking forward to hearing how things progress.

Kate - Keep up the good work on your nutritional challenge.  Sounds like you're off to a good start!

Randee - Hope your ride wasn't as bad as it sounded like it was going to be!

Kirsten - Speaking of songs....It's The Fi---[I think you know the rest]!!  Hope it's going well.

I'm in.  Haven't gotten to watch any stages yet and it's killing me.  Reading VeloNews just isn't as exciting.  I'm so used to spending a couple hours a night every night for 3 weeks, glued to the couch (usually with sweat), watching men in lycra.  Can't wait to get back to the yearly tradition!!

Do we have a blackout in place for the last world cup games?

I'm waaaaaay behind on it, too (something about the kids and Kim wanting to watch Teen Wolf - that and we've started the LOST series with the kids, and they love it - that keeps me from watching it at night… just can't compete, I guess!).

And I mean waaaay behind - is LA still in the yellow jersey?

To show you how much LA is out of my mind, when you said LA, I thought, "The LA Galaxy? I don't think they're in yellow..."

Sounds like fun.  Mix it up and enjoy yourself.  We have time in our lives for variety.  In my life I'll probably take years to focus on running and cycling.  I imagine I'll always try to squeeze in a sprint or two.  Gotta love sprints!

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
