If you use one of the Coinstar things at the grocery store, you can select cash and see how much they will charge you to get it. At the end, you can switch to a gift card if you decide it's too much. |

Go to the dollar store and get one of those coin sorter things. Makes it go by quickly. When I was in high school, I did this with a HUGE bank of change that I'd had for years and years - it was shaped like a giant plastic Coke bottle and it was about 3 feet tall. I think it was a lot of pennies, but it added up to quite a bit. My mom and I rolled it all and took it to the bank in shoe boxes. |

They just looked an me and handed me a bunch of paper tubes. I asked why they couldn't do it, and gave me the run-a-round about that there were lots of coins ahead of me to be counted and I would have to sit and wait for a long time. I was pretty much said F-you, and walked out. You know, I never really liked banks at all - with all the fees and rules on how I can get MY money in and out. An unfortunate nessessity in many cases. |
