jashac - 2010-10-08 12:05 PM Today:
Beach temperature hights 81 to 86,
Water temperature 75 degrees
surf height 1 foot or less.

I love the water at PCB.
website for current water temp:  http://www.weather.gov/view/validProds.php?prod=SRF&node=KTAE

Is there any chance, in your opinion, that the race won't be wesuit legal.  The reported temp is 75 as of today and the cutoff is 76 now.  The weather 15 days out doesn't look like its getting any cooler.

Check the athlete guide. I think it said something to the effect that if it is over 75 and you wear a wetsuit you will not be eligible for a Kona spot or AG award.

Anyone have a guess what their race number will be?

They start with pros men then women, the Janus fund racers, then start with 18 year old men A to Z then 19 year old men, to end of men then women 18 to oldest.

I'm usually one of the oldest 150 women doing an IM or I was at Canada as I'm racing as 49 this year.

'08 IMLP 2471
'09 IM Canada 2686

Guessing IMFL 2842

Depends on how many folks withdrew or tell IM they aren't racing and don't get a race number assigned.

Any other guesses?

'08 I was 84 '09 86 so I will guess 88 this year I will have a low number as a JCC athlete.

jcnipper - 2010-10-19 10:43 AM I'm just posting to note that, after finishing peak training, I got a new baby!  (Of course, because I bought a new bike, it's going to rain all week)

JC;
LOL... I went out a couple of weeks ago and bought the same bike for my 2011 Road To IMFL !! I am planning on bringing it with me this trip and riding the Bike course the Friday morning before you folks have all your fun. Congrats on the purchase, and have a great race.

Ran 2 hours today longest run since knee scope in June. I can't quite imagine running 3x that long. I'm slow but steady these days.  The interval setting of run .31 miles walk 30" worked great as I don't have to think.

This is why I love it.  I think this will help you with the issue of wanting to walk when others around you are.  If you just do what the "beeps" tell you to do, then you don't have to "think" about it.

Before today I was just having my Garmin chime at 4 min, and it was up to me to remember when my walk break was over.  Today I did something similar to Kathy, and had it chime at 3 min, 1 min, repeat.  I agree it worked great!  No more trying to count the 1 min walk.  It was so easy.  I did my longest run of 3hrs 11 min, and did 16 miles.  Hooray!

Nice new bike!

Had another IM nightmare last night. Reading the Athlete guide this morning and watching the mass swim start videos on youtube has me a bit jacked up:

watch this:

kathyG: I'm guessing that I will be #1353. Was 1244 last year at IMAZ.

All I know is everything is freaking me out now and hearing about bad ankles etc is not helping me chill haha

Phatknot, I know what you mean.  I have a stong swimming background, even though I'm dead slow now (seperated shoulder might have a bit to do with that), but the mass start with 2500 of my closest friend causes some anzious moments.

I'm feeling overwhelmed, undertrained and just generally a wee bit concerned.  Need to get that under control just wasting valuble time and energy.  It's the little things...

good news, bike is back, I've got about 8hrs on it trying to get a familair feel with the new front end. Adjustments need to be finalized this week as the weekends work is planned and very necessary. Run feels pretty good, wore out my shoes though,  luckily I have a backup pair.

be safe everyone.

KathyG: are you SURE that's how they assign bib numbers??? i'm looking at the results from last year's IM FL at my age group (M25-29) and although the numbers are in the same vacinity of each other there are tons of skipped numbers and they are DEFINITELY not in Alphabetical order.

BUT, the highest bib # in my age group from last year's race was 304 so i'm REALLY happy that i SHOULD only have a 3-digit race number!!!!!! i was worried that i might have a 1000+ bib # and my body marking would cover my entire arms and legs. pretty excited that it SHOULD be a 3-digit #!!!

if they DO go by age and then A-Z i'm going to guess that my race number will be 121.
if they go by AGE but then random (not A-Z), i'm going to guess that it'll be 222.

Yes..but remember all the 25 year olds go first A to Z then 26 yo A to Z so the numbers are close..some folks don't show up either so they are numbers assigned but folks don't race so number doesn't show up in results.

Feeling a little bit bummed at the moment. I'm having some weird stomach issues and canceled my swim yesterday and the outside of my right ankle is feeling a little tender. I figure staying off it for another day today is better than putting in a 2 hour ride. I'm more focused on my last long brick this Saturday and not being seriously injured.

Does anyone know what they usually serve at the athlete dinner?  Not sure if I'm going or not, but I'm vegetarian so wanted to check.  I'm assuming it's probably some kind of pasta and there will probably be a vegetarian option, but just checking.  Since this is my first IM I may go just to experience everything.

Usually pasta, some type of chicken and iceburg lettuce salad.

Send an email to IM and ask if they have vegetarian option and if you need to preorder it.

Very pleased that I did ocean ows today in RI in waves, current and water was 60-61. I'm not a big fan of cold or ocean  swimming so getting a swim this late in year with tough conditions is good for my confidence as PCB and water there will be warm.

So, I've been reading the various posts re injuries, ankles, illnesses, and being hit by cars (so sorry about that!)

I've got this idea in my brain that if I have the slightest inkling that I might injure myself doing activity X, then I'll pass.  For instance, somebody asked me if I wanted to play a little pickup flag football.  That's an easy one...pass.  Way too many bad things could happen.
I was invited to golf 18 holes yesterday.  Little tougher...but pass.  Could wrench my back.

So, today I did 90 minutes on the trainer (to avoid hitting or being hit by a car).  Then a short set in the pool at lunch, doing 100 yd repeats.
So, about halfway through the swim, I'm pushing about a 1:20 pace per 100 and flip kicking.
I overshoot the flipkick.  Don't compensate, and smack the back of my heel on the side of pool, hard.

I'm thinking to myself, that kinda hurts.  So, I finish the set, start walking around.  Still hurting.
I change and go back to work.
I get home, take off my sock, and now the big of heel has a bruise the size of my heel, dark purple.

I'm sure it will be ok, but I think the mental paranoia is more stressful than the actual boo-boo.

No, you aren't paranoid. I dislocated my toe last year the week before a triathlon. Accidentally kicked a coffee table while walking barefoot in the house. Hope you heel is feeling better.

Great video!

I lurk more than post, but have been following this thread closely since I am doing IMFL 06Nov as well.  I'm in full paranoia mode as well.  No road biking for fear of cars, no pedicures at the risk of infection (this almost made me miss a marathon 6 years ago), no trail biking b/c of the deer, no restaurants for fear of food bourne illness.  Now I will add no flip turns to my list

Awesome video Phatknot.  Kind of gets on in the mood.

Yup it's paranoia time.  the toughest part now is to arrive at the start line healthy and ready to go.

Ankle is better today, but I've had lots of ibuprofen.  decided not to even chance a run for the whole week, regardless of how good it feels.   Paranoid.  I wonder if I can run the whole 26 miles on ibuprofen? Tongue out

stay healthy guys!

Well, I'm not hurt or sick but I still have no wetsuit.  And I really wanted to swap some parts out on my bike before the race but I can't until I find a set of aerobars and I am having a tough time with that.

*sigh*
