Champion 6973 marietta | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN fast, furious, and closed LOL! there's a chance this thing might go legal. glad i packed the suit. bike is racked. bike and run bags are racked. special needs bags to be packed but i don't really have much. bsn- tube, co2 and powder for 2 bottles (no freezer in the room steve, damn). rsn- spare socks, a visor, a fruit cup.
this race is like no other in many more ways than the distance. it seems like everyone has a 10k $ bike. there's probably 10 of us not running zipps. look at my row and the others. wtf!?!
some pics from the swim this morning. here's the start. there are two more red buoys to the right and left of that one. i think i'm going to start just to the left of the one in the pic. i'll site off the left side of the white house. then the tower off to the left on the horizon at the first turn. deep water start w/ 2500 peeps... so that's the plan until the cannon!
swim start.
all the bags! |

Have a great race! You will Rock it! |

Member 75 Sacramento, CA | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN fast, furious, and closed DougRob - 2011-05-20 7:09 AM I love it! I am gonna do the same thing in my long run tomorrow. I find that if I can take my mind away from my body when racing I do better (at least during the less technical parts). So, I will be thinking about Fatty in Texas, Steve's family, the lady and her son on the plne that Fatty met, and my family tomorrow AM. In a lot of ways any pain I may feel is less than the pain and/or issues they will/ are facing and that helps me keep things in focus. Also it is kind of Zen like. So MG peeps if your ears are warm tomorrow between 8 and 10 AM EST, it is because I am thinking about you. |

You can! There are many of those peeps out there too!! Thanks for the pics, Fatty Slim!! Cannot get my mind off of you. I know, I know, you're thinking, "Dayum!! If I knew that was the case I would have done an Ironman long ago." You should be well into the bike by the time I drag my lazy arse out of bed tomorrow morning. Make us all proud. And savor it all! 140.6 little miles. One by one. You've covered so many more than that over the last few months. Enjoy your party!!! (Edited cuz I Terps'ed it and wanted to fix. Ha!!)

The sun was not up yet as we made our way through the wood to Falls Lake. By 6AM we were in our wetsuits and the water was 74 F. We said a little prayer and off we went. There were 8 of us. we swam 1.09 miles with a 6-7 minute break at the turn around while we waited for the last swimmers. I was 3 to arrive at the turn around and just on the heels of the guy in front of me. Funny thing was I was not really trying. I am racing tomorrow morning and just wanted to get in an OWS before the race. I felt great and when we were done I was really invigorated. My Garmin 310XT was in a zip lock baggy in my swim cap and worked perfectly. Startled me on the return as it buzz at the 1 mile point. I am glad I swam as I need to work on my sighting and I swallow some water in the beginning. Overall I am psyched and will try to make this part of my weekly training. Doug Good luck Doug. And that flag box looks amazing. |

Expert 1038 Noosa | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN fast, furious, and closed Swam my 2k ocean swim this morning, quite a big swell so the buoys were further out than usual and it looked like a big swim from the shore. Anyway, the Garmin said 2.36km and I had a nice steady swim finishing in 48 minutes. My parents were at the finish line which was a surprise and I met with a few friends for brekky at the surf club after which gave us a panoramic view of the 1km swim whilst we stuffed ourselves with bacon and eggs and coffee... It's raining heavily now so I'm really hoping tomorrow clears up for part 2 of my weekend, the Century Cycle ride. I only started riding last October so this is my first Winter and I don't possess any waterproof or longsleeved cycling gear. Could be a long day PS GO JOHN!!!!!!! |

I am looking into it as a possibility. Saw the doc again today, and he said ANOTHER 4 weeks of no running! Wow. I just can't figure out how I messed up my knee this badly. So we talked about other types of active recovery, and he wrote me a prescription for a physical therapist, so I will hopefully start PT later this week! He also said that he thinks "alternative medicine" is a really good idea, and if I find any chiropractor or acupuncturist that I want to see, he will give me a referral for insurance purposes. He worked on my leg, and said he's not concerned with anything else. I still have full mobility and everything else, just the pain when I run. He also said to take it easy on my walking! Boo. I've been walking my dog for at least 4 miles/day for a while, and he said I had to be super careful since where we live is so hilly. Thanks, Wisconsin. He also said to take it easy on stairs, which is my favorite, since we live on the second story, no elevator! Looking for aquabikes in my area now! I'd love to hear any other forms of active recovery you guys have! Also, do you think I can use this for an excuse to not help Ryan move to our new place in a couple weeks? Hey Erica--glad you went back and got some PT put in that training plan! For what it's worth, you do not need to look for races that have an official aquabike category (there aren't many), you can simply SB and quit. You'll get a DNF, but you'll get the experience. I did that in Lonestar last year due to injury and never looked back. Great training. Hey Doug--hubba-hubba on that dude. Ha ha, that's what I was thinking . . . I'm playing catch up lately. Been immersed in finishing our patio before family comes (from CA, TX, AZ) to our house for a reunion next weekend. Super stressed and barely having time to get any quality workouts in, let alone reading the MG posts. Soon, it will be over and I can get my focus back. I loved the video of Julia in transition. She was super calm and efficient--even with John going "tic tock tic tock" in the background :-) Ok, back to reading posts. I think I'm only 5 pages behind now |

It's a very big weekend for at least one of us. Let's give a quick shout out to Fatty as he heads to TX today. Would anyone else like to raise their hands high and tell us about their race plans? I am running a super special 5K on Saturday with my favorite 9-year-old... my daughter, Shea. We are running the Girls On the Run 5K in Seattle. Awesome and amazing program. Every girl has a running buddy, and Shea wanted me to be hers. She has been running like gangbusters the last couple of weeks (she finally listened to me and stopped doing her 6:30 pace for 30 seconds and then dying for the rest of the way, ha!) and her coaches/teachers have told me she is really learning how to pace. Awesome. Sadly... on Sunday she stubbed one of her toes really, really badly and as of last night was still very gimpy on it. I am super sad for her and hope she can run like she is capable. But in true Shea fashion, with her super optimistic and sunny disposition, she said, "It's OK, Mom. We can walk the whole thing slowly if we need to." She's right!! All along I've been worried my hamstring might hold us back (she knew she might need to walk with me!), and now that I'm feeling more put together... well... it is what it is. She is beautiful and happy and strong and I'm so excited to share this with her!! Kyla, this post makes me want to cry. My baby girl just turned 21 recently and I love her more than anything!!! Enjoy these years, 'cause they speed by!!! |
