First, a big thank you to everyone on this forum for their support, ideas, information, etc. i really appreciated it. Especially the emotional ups and downs we had on this forum.

Second.  I AM AN IRONMAN!

Final time 15:26:40

Rough swim, at least I thought, very good bike ride, and long, long run.  Overall, very happy to finish.

For those of you that will be doing more Ironman races in the future, my hat is off to you.  I will be sticking with local sprint tri's in my nieghborhood. One and done.

Went to Ironman Wal-Mart this morning at 6:00am.  About 15 in line. By the time they opened the door at 7:00am, line was out of the parking lot..was still out to the parking lot when I gave Ironman Store a bunch of money.

Safe trip home everyone.  I was great to meet you in person at the various meet-ups that were held this week.

Congrats to Mr. Steve and everyone else on an amazing accomplishment.

I had a good race.  Swim was rough and like a cage match in the water, bike the wind on hwy 20 was brutal and the second loop of the run sucked!  But I finished and heard Mike Reilly say that I was an Ironman!  That was what I came for!

Overall I was pleased with my results, missed my 'in a perfect world time' of 12:00 hrs by just 15 mins.  Quicker transitions, not standing in line at the porta johns at aid stations, and not having to stop to adjust my wheel on my bike I could have made it, or just done some more long runs so I could have ran descending splits and not ascending splits on the marathon.

I would love to hear how everyone else did!

Safe travel everyone and see ya at the races!

Brad

WINDY, WINDY, WINDY!!!  I don't know what everyone's experience was but mine was a tough one.  I came out of the first loop of the swim feeling good at 42 minutes.  I figured I had a 1:20 easy.  The second loop was the roughest swim I have every experienced.  The waves were huge!  I was more body surfing then swimming.  Took in some gulps of saltwater and got stung by the jellyfish again.  I ended up coming out at 1:42.

The  bike was the hardest bike ride I have ever had.  The headwind was killing me.  I felt like I was riding a stationary bike.  My training times had me coming in with a 6-6:15 bike, I ended up with a 6:58.  Not only was my bike really slow but I expended too much energy pushing through the wind and came off the bike into the run more tired then I should have been.

I felt pretty strong with the run through about mile 10.  I was on track to finish sub 14:00.  Then the wheels came off.  My stomach completely shut down.  Everytime I tried to drink or eat anything I automatically threw up.  So I completed the rest of the marathon on nothing but a few sips of water.  This made for a long 16 miles with a lot of walking/shuffling.  This was really disappointing to me because running is my strong suit but once my GI track shut down I lost the ability to run and by the end had trouble just standing up.

All that said, I finished!  This was my first Ironman and I finished in 15:35.  It took everything I had and then some but I dug as deep as I could and got to truly see what I had inside.  Hopefully, I can learn from this and do better next time.  This was truly a humbling experience and I have so much respect for all of you that attempt this huge feat.

I am so glad the race was NOT today.  AND that IDA stayed away.  Closed the beaches.  Would have made it interesting to see what Ironman would have done with a cancelled swim..plus the bike would have been worse...

Safe travel.  We are out of here tomorrow early AM.

All-in-all a good day here.  I learned my lesson about cycling in the headwinds during IM 70.3 NOLA.  Made for a VERY tough run leg which I wanted never to repeat.  For IMFL, I just really eased up, knowing I'd really start 'trying' at Mile 80 on the bike, and then just try and ease through the run at a constant pace.  Strategy worked well, and when I realized my goal (<12:30) was easily within sight by run mile 20, I walked a bit more and geared it down a notch just to ease things up a bit.

Felt good all day - no real low points, relatively conservative race, felt great at the end, and feel pretty darn good the day after.  No regrets, no complaints - an awesome experience.

Congrats to all finishers, and no matter what sort of day you had, I'm sure it was worth it in the end.  Nice meeting and connecting with you, both virtually and while here in PCB.  Good luck with your athletic next steps, whatever they may be!

Cheers,
Mark

Congratulations Ironman! It was a great day out there! I raced within myself and worked my plan. Only felt bad around mile 17-18 (13mm) because of nutritional issues. I popped some endurolytes and started hitting the broth and I picked up but the second loop in the very dark park. I hit my goal of sub 14 (13:49) and never really had a dark moment. For my first marathon I was so proud of myself to be running because my run has been quite weak this year. I truly believe having a coach made my day so pleasant. You don't kid yourself about what you are capable of and they map out a plan for you and if you execute it, you have a great day.

I had a great time volunteering and watching late into the evening!!  I signed up for 2010 and I'm looking forward to the future threads we create.  I enjoyed meeting the fellow BT'rs @ Mellow Mushroom and around the whole event.  Maybe next year I'll host a pre-party at my house...

Congrats to you all!!!  You are now officially an Ironman!!  Wear the M-dot proud!!

Great job everyone!! Thanks a ton to all of the volunteers. The event was truly an experience to remember.

I had a great race. Despite some MAJOR knee issues around mile 20 on the run, I managed a 11:55:41 finish. Under my 12 hour goal. I, now, definitely understand what people mean when they say race the race on that day. As it is, I met my goals, enjoyed the day, heard my name and came home with the medal. All with my family cheering me on! I honestly could not have asked for more!

For everyone doing it next best of luck. Stay focused. Stay motivated. Train hard. Train smart. And most importantly, stay safe! You'll get there and this is a great race in which to participate!

From the Ironman Florida home page: "Please note: In an effort to be more environmentally friendly, Ironman will no longer be producing the race highlights DVD."

There are video highlights links there though.
