dalessit - 2009-05-29 11:40 AM So any interest in extending the deadline another week or so for the virtual tri?

I still need a run and ride in and we have had thunderstorms just about every afternoon this week so I havent' had a chance to get my bike ro run in yet.

Going to try again today but it is super sticky out now feels like we are going to get more of the same today.

Should be able to get it in this weekend but just in case....

sounds good to me.

I SECOND the motion.  I was going to try to squeeze the run in this weekend,  but another week would be great.

x4 - I might be able to have a better ride if I don't work outsided moving stuff all day first.  That and anything to give me more conditioning time before i do my 5k "run"  1 or 2 weeks is fine...

gadgetlaw - 2009-05-28 4:29 PM Hi all,

Thanks for the encouragement on my run! I think a big difference is that I am not very good at pacing. I never know how fast to run. Usually, during my races (5ks), I would have some energy left at the end. This time, I tried to go faster during the entire race. I still don't know how to pace myself though. Any suggestions??
Also, I had a really weird swim this morning. I did my half mile, then paused for a minute and adjusted my goggles and cap. When I started to swim again, I felt really dizzy. I swam 4 laps and thought, I have to get out of the pool NOW!! I ran to the bathroom and hugged the toilet for a while. Let's just say that it was a good thing that I hadn't eaten anything yet. I feel better now, I think. I have had vertigo in the past and don't know if that was the problem, or something else. Anybody ever get dizzy when swimming? Do you think it is something I should be worried about?
I will turn in my swim time from this morning, but it may hurt Team won!!

Karen

Depends does it feel like mornig sickness ??? as in pregnant

This made me laugh out loud!!  We do not have children and neither me nor my husband want children.  Sometimes I feel kind of selfish for feeling this way, but we are very happy!  Actually, a long time ago, when my cousin was pregnant, I threatened my husband if he ever did that to me!!  So, long story short, that better not be the reason!  Besides, I am too old for that now!

Suzy - I always breath to my right (I know, work on the bilateral breathing!).  Sometimes I do feel like I have water in my right ear.  I was thinking about trying an ear plug in at least that ear.  I didn't know any one who actually used them and wondered if they really helped.  Hearing that they do, I will try that next time!  Thanks.

I did go swimming this morning.  When I woke up, I stayed in bed for about 10 minutes arguing with myself.  I kept telling myself to just get up and go, but then I just kept thinking that I didn't want to get sick again!!  Finally I got up and went.  I took it slow and easy.  Really slow!!  I felt pretty good.  A couple times I thought maybe I was feeling a little dizzy, but I actually think it was in my head!!  I think I will try the earplug thing next time.  I do have medicine for my vertigo, but I definitely do not want to take that because I will fall asleep by the second lap.  Does dramamine make you sleepy?

Good luck to every one racing!  I have no objections to extending our Tri - it has been horribly rainy here too and all my rides this week have on the trainer so far!!

Karen

Havin'Fun - 2009-05-25 8:02 AM Is there an updated group table? I know I am missing some people on the table I have, but can not seem to find the latest one (only 86 pages to flip through). And being as non-technical as they come I can not seem to figure out how to update it myself.
Thanks

Since I came in late, I tried to go through the pages and made up the following list. I hope I left no one out and please excuse any misspellings. I suck at typing (and reading my own handwriting):

Gadgetlaw: Karen (What does that name mean?Laughing)

That has been my ID/user name for just about everything for going on 15 years (kinda sad, huh?)!!! When I started law school in '95 I was moving to live alone. I got a cat to keep me company. Her name is Gadget (Yes, I still have her). Anyway, the first time in law school the I needed an ID for something, I couldn't think of what to use. Combining those two things, one of my friends suggested Gadgetlaw. It does seem rather silly now, but it is just what I have always used!! Not nearly as exciting as you expected, is it Laughing??

I vote to extend also!  I did do my 400 yd swim this am.  Yes, very slowly but under 9 minutes which for me is an achievement.  I haven't been able to get my bike in so I might use the first half of my oly next weekend if that's okay.

Tracy, great idea there.  I did buy a pair of socks (Balaga) that someone here recommended and LOVE them   but a bike frame would be better............

Have a great weekend everyone!

Dude are you stalking me?  That place is right down the street from my house.  Not sure I have ever seen crawfish in there though.  We used to go out and get them all the time when I briefly lived in Jacksonville, FL.

N. Pollard is very close to my house also.

TrevorC - 2009-05-29 9:04 AM Hey Steve....Amino Vital what you think? I noticed one of your pics you were wearing a jersey. Do you use the product ? If so what do you think, etc.

Trevor,

It was great stuff... I was sponsored by them for 3 years, and loved there stuff.  A couple things I didn't like was the powder "FAST CHARGE" it had 2400mg of Amino Acids but tasted like rubbish, and the gel packets used to be HUGE.  Almost to the point where it was hard to carry them (and was only 120 calories).  The Amino Vital PRO was my favorite (Grape Flavor).  It was such a treat, and did wonders.  I was fortunate never to have to pay for anything (and still have a ton of stuff from them), but if I recall it was pretty expensive.

I know use (just like most people I think) Infinit Nutrition (mixed w/ Carbo PRO).....

Thanks....I've seen it in the GNC's advertising up here alot lately, as well as in a bunch of mags. Infinit Nutrition is all custom isnt it? I'll have to look into i t up here. I wonder about shipping, etc.

Infinit is definitely not all custom.  You can buy off the rack formulas if you want.  I use a custom blend and L-O-V-E, Love it!  When I started using it for marathons all my GI and bonking issues went away.  I also use Carb Pro with endurolytes.  After a while no single formula tastes good so I try to mix it up.

Hey everyone. I am back in the USA! Got no training in this past week and I feel like a slug. I am going to try and swim tomorrow AM and hopefully do a faster 400. With the one week extenstion for the challange leaves me with a problem. My first tri is 6/7. I was not going to do too much this week, just some Slow and easy workouts and then rest. Maybe I'll use my 12 at the tri for my time on the bike. Of course that ssumes I would be faster on race day after the swim. Hmm... don't know what I am going to do.

Good luck tomorrow, everyone who is racing.

Doug

Thx Suz...I did take a look at it online this afternoon....Looked like it was about $40 CDN for the 25 serving tub. I went on the US site and it was $35-40 US. So it seemed comparable. I may order myself a tub as a trial tonight as I pack!!

How is everyone's weekend going?  Mine is off to a great start.  Woke up early and got a solid 40 mile bike ride in.  Now I am hanging with the baby while the wife is getting a manicure and pedicue.  A solid work out and brownie points to boot, all before 11:00.  It doesn't get much better than this.

Well I got out in the neighborhood pool this AM. Over all not good. Sorry Team 1 I did not lower my swim time. I put on my wetsuit and did swim the first 100 in 1:22, a record for me. However, it was too warm in the water. I took it off and was slower. Not just that but I got really bad cramps in my calfs and could only swim 1100 yds. before I has to quit. When I got out I had a wicked headache too.

Does anyone know if any of this could be the effect of long air travel? I did not get nay workouts this past week and that may have played a part too. Just wondering. I have know where to go but up right?

Oh well, got go do stuff to prepare for my son's 9th birthday party today. The actually birthday is tuseday, but we have his friends sleeping over tonight.

Hope you're all doing well, Let's hear your progress.

Doug: Sounds like it could have been dehydration or electrolyte imbalance. Were you drinking some sports drink? Making sure to get lots of fluid? I'm not sure how air travel affects this, but the heat definitely makes fluid and electrolyte, especially sodium, replacement really important.

Cramps could be due to dehydration.  As a veteran flyer, you know how dry it can be in airplanes.  If you are not carrying fluid you can get way behind.  I also think sitting for long periods of times give you a lot of stiffness you need to work out through a good stretching program.

Did my 2nd brick of the week, a 35m ride followed by a 2.5m run.  It wasn't bad.  It has me thinking that next weeks tri will be bearable, even though it is my first Oly ever.
