Is this worth doing? I don't know anything about it. I'm sorry. I am a tri-failure. It sorta seems like fishy USAT marketing. But I dunno. I don't know anything about it. And you obviously are not a "tri-failure." Congrats. Well, I mean I just don't know what anything means. I know what a BQ is, I know what age-grading is in running, what Olympic trials standards are, which races are competitive etc. I just don't know any of that stuff when it comes to triathlon. And I mean I am a failure because I am a mentor on a triathlon specific site lol |

Thanks, I got that one. I am signed up already. I got half price for signing up right after this year's race. Someday I will crush that race, and until then I continue signing up every year. Sigh, they may get more money out of me in the next 20 years then my wife thought possible BTW, Sarasota bills itself as having the biggest finishers medal in the state. So, if size matters to you...

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED I lived on pop-tarts when I was at the academy, i ate the "high-fiber" ones when I was trying to lose weight (there's irony for ya). Now I really don't buy them, although those holiday flavors sound pretty good! Well I got my Jogo challenge done. I went out with a plan of doing something between walking 30 minutes or running the 75 minutes on my plan. I ended up running 58 minutes and running, interestingly, the route that use to be my long run, now it's my medium run. Not bad considering the fact that this morning I was pretty sure my head was going to explode. |

I think she'll get something out of that for a few years. It's very teamy which is what she likes so long as a ball isn't involved! I think from next term she also can be involved in more after school activities. You manatees rock. Jo, we have two fairly non-athletic girls. Both did band, one did girl scouts, they were involved in theater in HS, one did NJROTC. There may be other options that are not sport related. Keep your ears and eyes open, as I'm sure you will. Approach it like training, ie plan, think, try different things, etc. It is tough at her age, the options may not be as vast as they are a little later in life. Yes! I did band, Brownies (but not girl scouts), no ball sports whatsoever. We lived in Iowa when I was going to start middle school. Someone said, "What are you going to go out for next year?" I had to think quickly. I had to go out for something that did not involve balls or any kind of coordination. I replied, "Track." Band is great! Anything where there is social bonding. Individual sports like swimming and track are okay, but again, the team work and learning to work with people for a common goal, is so important with only children. Trust me on this one. I am 48 years old and just now learning how to deal with conflict and reaching goals. I still tend to not rely on anyone, ever. I never learned from siblings how to resolve conflict or work together. It has affected every aspect of my life. Communication is crucial for an only child to learn, and you only get that from group socialization and working toward a common goal. Track and swimming were what I went into because I was afraid to be part of a team. Please steer your daughter toward groups that have to work together, not individual sports. I think she prefers team stuff anyway - Im from a big family i like individual - funny that huh? I don't think your lack of siblings caused you to have difficulty resolving conflict. It won't have helped for sure. I hate conflict I hate confrontation, I avoid it, I'm always the one trying to make things peaceful. Maybe coz my older brother and sister hated each other - and still do - I just was trying to lay low. Anyway - when Artemis has friends over or we're with friends/family with kids and she comes whining to me about whatever so and so has done or is doing - my answer is always - go away, you kids can sort it out or we can go home now - your choice. It's worked well.

Seriously. It's amazing what consistency can do. I remember when I first started some of my long bikes are now routine long runs. And that wasn't all that long ago! It just blows my mind, the adaptions we can make. |
