Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread playmobil31 sorry to hear about the crash... and right before the race, THAT SUCKS. But glad you are okay. Tankboy, glad to hear you've gotten your a$$ off the couch. My plan this winter is to watch some of the Lance weight training videos and replicate; with a lot smaller weights mind you. I finally feel 100% recovered from IMLP 2011. I did a nice BRICK today, and my times are back to pre-LP. So I am feeling good about that. I have the Philly Marathon in 3 weeks, so I am going to keep the SBR volume up around 8 to 10 hours for the next 2 weeks, then 1 week Taper for the marathon. After the marathon it will be a stong Trainer Focus. Jorge's Cyling Program. I will also make sure to Swim 2,000 meters 2X per week, and keep the run mileage between 20 and 25 miles. My goals for Lake Placid are: A.) Arrive to start line healthy B.) Finish C.) Finish in 10:XX. I don't care if it's 10:59:59 |

Goals for IMLP for 2012: 1. stick to the training plan and compete in Track in the spring 2. stay healthy through all of training 3. promote fitness on my campus through my TeamAndy Challenge(www.bluffton.edu/teamandy/) 4. race a sub 12 5. race a sub 11 6. don't bonk...(really hope this happens) 7. have fun! I think that is it. My coach always tells me to have a lot of goals going into racing and training. |

What kind of goals do you have for that? Good luck! |

Master 2912 ...at home in The ATL | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread So today I had an almost-perfect IMLP bike training day. And if it rained for the whole time, not just half. Oh, and if it had about 5000 more feet of climbing. Like I said, almost perfect! |

Veteran 274 State College, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread Might as well post my pre-season goals for IMLP.
In order of importance/probability: 1. Recover from ACL surgery with no complications 2. Arrive at starting line healthy 3. Arrive at the finish line on my own two feet, not in an ambulance 4. Sub 6 hour Bike 5. Sub 1 hour swim 6. Sub 4 hour Run
I'm confident about both the bike and swim goals considering how much effort I've been putting into the two since the surgery. I just got the clear from my doctor to start running next week. Very very happy, but I also have a healthy amount of apprehensiveness about re-injuries since its been close to 3 months since I ran. |

Member 102 | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread Ya, regionals are in a week and half. Goals for that are pretty simple. we haven't had good weather all year so courses have been all slop and no footing so times haven't been that great and with the regional course being completely flat I want to set a good time and PR. been running around mid 28's all season for 8k, I want to bust out a low 27 on this course which my coaches and I think is pretty doeable. |

Speaking of rain... lest everyone know, we are due for a rainy race at LP this year, because the prior two years have been sparkling sunshine. Three years ago it downpoured the whole day. And the years before that, I believe it flip-flopped rain and sun for quite a few years. So anytime it's raining out and you want to use that as an excuse not to train, don't. Consider rain training - LP training. (the exception being freezing rain. Getting pneumonia would hinder training.) |

You're not from around here, are you? ;-) Seriously though, even in July it can be 40 and pouring rain or 95 and blistering sun. (I myself am fine with a cold rain - it's the hot sun I need to prep for. I always MELT.) |

Regular 124 | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread I would not be upset if it rained on IMLP 2012 day - so long as it does not rain on Wedding Lake Placid day in August.... 2012 Goals: 1 - Recover from this beeping knee injury. MRI showed a few problems - getting really podgy as a result. My friends are enjoying having me back and participarting in less healthy activities. 2 - Get to the start - get to the finish. 3 - Less bothered about time this year. I was happy with last years (other than the 29 min T1). Im going to try and maintain a better work/training/friends life balance this time. 4 - 2013 i may try go faster than 2011 (as well as do IM Cozumel or something more exotic). Still, i am looking forward to getting back into it.... Let the journey begin. |

Veteran 274 State College, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread Just got home from my first run since surgery!!!! Watched the first 2 hours of Ironman Florida this morning then headed to the YMCA for my daily swim(just a quick 2100 yards). After the swim I decided that since my surgeon gave me the go ahead to start running I was going to try a light jog to see how my knee felt. Flet amazing! I only ran one mile, at a nice and easy 8 min/mile pace. I intended to run slower but was having issues slowing down, I was fighting myself not to run any faster. This was also the first time I've ran in my VFFs so that was a new experience. They felt great with no issues yet. We'll see how the knee feels later today/tomorrow but right now its fine. Edit: The run was on the indoor track at the YMCA so it was a relatively soft surface. Edited by drdking 2011-11-05 11:28 AM |

I did get nervous though when you mentioned the VFF. Pleeeeeeeeease take it slow with them |

Congratulations. Take it easy. When it comes to joints and recovery, patience is a virtue. Also, for the pain magnets out there, I registered for BT for the first time in five years today. I still haven't figured out all the newly available charts and tools but I did download Coach Jorge's Winter Heartrate Plan. I rode 50 minutes today to try to establish my threshold. First day of the plan is tomorrow. Photo of the pain cave is forthcoming at some point.

I'm leaning towards Iron Fit plan (either competitive or intermediate), but still investigating options. |

I would fry mentally trying to do a 30 week plan. Trying to keep up a good base through the off-season though. Oh, and we FINALLY got our first dusting of snow last night - came really late this year. Let's hope that doesn't mean a late spring like in 2010. |

Veteran 274 State College, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread I had a Fitness Test this morning at my LBS. RMR/FTP/VO2 Max/Otherrandomtorturedevices
VO2 Max: 60.8 Very happy with that number. It is much higher than I was expecting.
FTP: 250ish watts(I'll get the exact number once he has a chance to run the full report) I'm actually happy with that. The testing I've done on myself on my trainer had me at around 220 watts so I'll take it.
I also learned some good information about my RMR/RER. Long story short I have a very high metabolism but my diet is poop. I eat too much carbs and need to change. I've known this for awhile, but the fact that the guy could pull that information just from the raw data impressed me. I know I have a long way to go, but at least I know where my starting point is now. Edited by drdking 2011-11-12 12:34 PM |

Member 102 | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread Cross Country season is officially over! finished my senior year off pretty well with a lifetime PR in the 8k of 27:51, dropping over a minute off my best time for the season previously. really windy day but with over 300 in the race and being a small guy, it was pretty easy to find people to hide behind on the windy stretches. Trifuel 36 week training plan officially starts tomorrow with a swim and bike. It almost feels like I am more excited for this to start than for my cross country season to have ended. woops. |

5 | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread It seems I am pretty late in making my stay arrangements for the IMLP2012. I couldn't find anything for a reasonable price in the Lake Placid area and so I ended up making a reservation in Plattsburgh (~50 miles from Mirror Lake). I have never been to the area and so was wondering if anyone knows whether it could be challenge to get to the race start on the race morning? Any street closings or parking issues that could affect and I should be aware of? Has anyone had experience camping the night before and racing an IM the next morning?Just thinking, if Plattsburg is not a good option, I can camp close to the race start. Thanks! |

Two years ago when I volunteeered for the race I had to stay in Plattsburgh due to not getting a hotel until late June. Its slightly over an hour drive from Plattsburgh to Lake Placid, depending how fast you drive and if there is any traffic. So not terrible, but still annoying considering you'll have to do the drive at least 3 times for registration, bike drop-off and the race. If you look for directions on Google it'll take you down US 9 to 9N into LP. I would recommend just taking US 3 into Saranac Lake then 86 into LP, its only slightly longer and you don't have to deal with any of the traffic issues on the east side of LP race morning. As for parking I recommend somewhere along Station St. There are a few public lots there + you'll find tons of people just parking along the street(there is also a gravel lot behind the train station that isn't technically open, but plenty of people will park there anyways(where I parked and didn't have any issues)). If you're on 86 from Saranac Lake you take a right onto Old Military Road(County Hwy 35) before you get into LP itself. Go 2 miles down the road and Station Street will be on your left. |
