I'm having trouble figuring out if it should be in yards or meters or miles or km. Maybe because it is Monday or because I drank too many Mojitos Saturday night. Totals for the month Swim 10333 m / 20000m ( 11300 yards / 21860 yards) Run 27.01 km / 50 km ( 16.78 miles) / 31.07 miles)

Expert 626 Las Vegas, NV | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Here are my totals so far for this month: 31.38 miles running and 19,300 m swim. Now for all that have either met your monthly goals, or are 90% to your monthly goal, I would suggest that you re-update your monthly goal with a higher number. We are trying to achieve and push ourselves to new levels of enjoying this training. Just a suggestion. We need to push ourselves for the whole month, and not the first two weeks, then relax for the next 3 weeks. We have 5 weeks this month. 2 down, and 3 to go (last week ends on Friday, so make sure you don't include that weekend). Sorry, we cannot cut back on goals, just increase so we continue to challenge ourselves. Great job for everyone, and let's keep it rolling. So, Donto, where are we standing so far? Single piece or two piece!! i.e. who is leading so far. I heard the girls were chatting a lot, so let's see if they met that new lead they promised us so much? |

Expert 626 Las Vegas, NV | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Donto, To take the lead on this, please increase my running from 50 miles to 65 miles. I can't believe I'm doing this, since I have never ran that much in my life. This will take me from over 80% completion down, but then we are pushing ourselves to a new limit this month. Plus I have reach my wedding day weight now, and still working on getting back to my High School weight. This challenge will help me do that, just stay within my WW points including exercise. On all people that mentioned about having met their monthly goals, I hope you don't woose out, and stay there. I'm helping you all push yourselves to a new limit! So lets keep it moving. Boy's, keep that mileage coming in. |

Expert 1092 Earth | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! I missed a couple of runs last week and also ended up missing a swim or 2 as well. I was sick Wednesday and Thursday. I did my "A" race Sunday so this will be a recovery week for me. A couple of easy swims, and a couple of runs. Wednesday night I have a 5K race, hopefully my legs will have recovered by then. Right now they feel strangely like jello. Monthly totals Keep going guys! |

I'm in a meeting and actually doing some participation so I'll give everyone until later this afternoon to catchup on the logs then I'll update the SS and post Week2 rev-A by ~5pm. We definitly need a rule update, if you meet a goal within 2 weeks time you must increase it or be penalized and not get a 100%, just saying, makes sense!!! |

Extreme Veteran 576 Bethpage, New York | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Ok, I'm in...bump my running goal up to 16 hrs. I have a taper week coming up, so I won't be logging as much volume as usual. For right now I'll stick with the swim goal...I think that might take me into late August to hit. |

The only problem with this is that people might be getting the swim out of the way because of scheduling with the pool or travel. Other than that, it seems like a good idea. |

Expert 626 Las Vegas, NV | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Point well taken. As we go through, rules just get improved from year to year. same as an organization, it run more smootly as the years go by, because of the experience you learn and what you have to go through. When we start an event, we include exception's - i.e. When you call out your goals, please include statements as pool closes for 2 weeks, etc... so we understand when you achieve goal early, you all get the point. We wan't to keep it simple and fun. But the other point is, we have new members all the time, they enter a challenge not knowing really how to set a true goal, or are new to the sport. That is why we call it beginnertriathlete.com site. So we are there to help each other set challenges, and if we achieve early, i.e. 80 to 90% in first two weeks, and the rest of the month is normal, then we need to improve. If facility is closed, vacations, etc.. then just mention it, and we are all good. Should be very simple. Anyway, how are the boy's doing? Let's keep rolling and see how far ahead we can get.!! |

Member 33 | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Speaking for the beginners it is very helpful to see how to keep training. My first official triathlon is Sept. 16. I've only swam in open water once. I'm hoping my extra effort this month will help me feel really comfortable in the water. |

Here are the week 2a results, after 35.5% of the month completed it's a close race folks! Note, boys are still ahead on the individual % even after adjusting for the updated goals of two teammates. One girl has completed her goal already for the run (great job ScotinSeattle!) and should in increase her goal, hint, hint ! Let me know if I missed anything or if anyone else want's goal increases. Onto week 3 we goooo....

NORA -- You are right that the extra effort in the pool will help you. May 13 I did my first OWS clinic and was struggling at the first turn and bringing up the rear the whole time. Yesterday's race, I managed to pass guys in the wave before mine. By the last turn, I passed guys from 2 waves ahead of me! I'm no fast swimmer; but slow and steady can get you far. :-) Keep up the good work! |

Donto - 2007-08-13 3:32 PM Let me know if I missed anything or if anyone else want's goal increases. Hi there, I finally figured out how to open this document and I see that my name isn't on there. I wish I could report that my swimming is better, but either my business travels or my husband's business travels have, and will continue, to put a hamper on pool-time. I hate hearing excuses, especially my own. But I have to just throw it out there so you are all aware that I'm not intentially slacking. When my hubby is out of town (he's a photographer and get's called onto shoots on short notice often) then I'm at home watching my wonderful 3 and 5 year old daughters. That being said, much of next week, there may not be much pool time. I'll do my best though! At least I'm back in the water tonight so I can swim another chunk out of my goal. At least I'm on track (probably ahead) on the running aspect. Here are my cumulative totals for August thus far: Run: 3h 48m 32s - 19.99 Mi Swim: 2h 20m - 6625 Yd |

Extreme Veteran 514 Perkasie, PA | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Okay. Okay. This morning in response to last weeks results -- I decided on a shift in tactics to discourage the men. I send out a barage of e-mails and blogs. What I ended up getting back was a bunch of e-mails and blogs asking me "how old are the women?" and "what's wrong with older women? I think they're great" and so forth. For the record, I have NO idea how old the rest of the women are. I made this sentence up in an attempt to discourage you: "You know most of the women in the swim/run challenge are older and, well, it's hardly going to be worth it to see them in Speedos..." And I didn't want to go too far and say that we are a bunch of old, out-of-shape, hideous creatures you wouldn't want to see in less than a burka. I did let most of the women in on the tactic so they wouldn't be p*ssed when they heard I was dissing them. The truth is, I'm sure we're a group of above-average beauties... and I myself celebrated turning 40 this year by becoming a triathlete... BUT WE ARE STILL GOING TO KICK YOUR BUTTS; so you will never know for sure!!! |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Men, in general, are shameless exhibitionists. Women, in general (and I doubt even the fine fit ladies here are exceptions) are FAR more self-conscious about appearing in Speedos, and have far greater motivation to reach our goals. Me, personally, I think I'd rather run to New York and then swim to England before I put up full-fledged Speedo assatar. That being said (random thought) ... nobody, and I mean nobody, notices you in a Speedo much at all, and, paradoxically, especially not if you're not hot/lean/good looking. When swim training, I'm so self-obsessed I barely notice anyone else (sure this is true for most people). The ones who are floppy or flabby or large or whatever, I don't check out at all, 'cause my eyes immediately go to the cut hunk in the banana hammock. And he gets all of 3s before I'm like, damn, I need to push off on this repeat. I am STILL not going to expose my whole self in a Speedo on this website, EVER. 'Cause that pic is UP THERE, for a MONTH ... this ain't no YMCA. |

Veteran 264 Wilmington, NC | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! OK so first off, cmbcw3's attempt at motivating the girls sounds like a desparate attempt from a desparate woman. Secondly, TriAya, the only men I know are the old ones, you know, the ones who where their jockstrap over their underwear. Do ya really want to see them in their speedo's? As a side note, I am at 5800 yards for the week swimming, and it's only Wednesday! |
