Worlds most friendly city- Florianopolis Brazil

Worlds most unfriendly city- Newark NJ.

The IM Brazil folks concur re. Floripa. It's also not nearly as unsafe as the Brazilian megatropolises. That said, I'm really excited about going in 2016!

Most people concur about Newark ... except for me. I've only been there three times, but for a week each time, and people were REALLY nice to me! Even in the dead of winter. One of the times I lost my wallet, and my address was in it (but no phone number) and by the time I got back, it with all its contents intact had arrived in my post box. I sent a thank-you card to the return address and a check, which never got cashed.

Then again, I found Los Angeles to be a very friendly city.

A friend of mine just did a London-Paris-Rome vacation and said the people in Paris were rude to her. I don't understand this as a lot of Americans say that, but we never had a bad experience in Paris. In fact they were always very nice to us. I said `Did you try to speak to them in French or just expect them to know English.' and she said `Oh well I guess I should've learned a little bit of French before I left.' SIgh.

but why are they rude if you don't know french?  i've been to plenty of countries where i don't know the language and never had someone be rude to me just cause i can't speak whatever-ese.

then again, amurricans are a-holes to anyone that doesn't know english...

If someone doesn't speak English, the only way to get your point across is to talk LOUDER and make hand gestures......

And dress like a tourist.

Anyone here use LinkedIn?

I do, and I manage my company's page and group, etc. Here's my question.

There is a guy who apparently works at my company (16K employees) who keeps "endorsing" me for all kinds of things. I've never met him, never spoken with him, never worked with him. Now I get that some people endorse others hoping that they'll turn around and endorse back - I don't do that. But this guy, I swear at least EVERY OTHER DAY, endorses me for new skills. Like today he endorsed me for 6 skills, 3 of which I've never done before.

What gives? I'm about to delete him.

I'm on there, but I don't actively use it.  I get the same thing from a few of my friends, so the last time I got a wave of emails, I checked it out a little.

Basically, LinkedIn puts something on your profile page for you to click on for the endorsements - basically, they're making the suggestions, and so he is likely just blindly clicking on what they give him.  It's kind of like the Daily Matches list on Match.com... you have to click something on the one in front of you to get to the next ones.

Hmm I've never had to endorse someone to get to anything on LinkedIn??
Just looked - yup it says "endorse" or "skip" when you go to someone's profile. Also an "X" you can close that section.

That means this guy is going to my profile EVERY SINGLE DAY! Creepy.

Ahh, ok.  I obviously didn't look that closely, I guess.

That is kinda creepy.   Do they have a skill named "Stalking" that you can endorse him for?

I've had the same thing. The majority of my 'endorsers' are people with whom I've never worked in my professional (engineering). My real estate agent endorsed me two different times for product design related skills. This is what I do, but she likely doesn't even know what I design. I never endorse anybody and I wish they would just eliminate the feature. I'm not sure why people who aren't in my field even want to link up in the first place.

As an aside, I'm a relatively active user. I like the new feed that’s somewhat customized to you industry. Also, recruiters use it pretty heavily, and even though I'm pretty happy with my current position, it's nice to hear about what's available.

Honestly, I think that's automated. I don't think people are actually `endorsing' you for anything. I would contact LinkedIn and say `Can you stop people from endorsing me, it's stupid and embarrassing since they don't even know me.' Or some such thing.

The actual endorsements require someone to click "yes I want to endorse Tony for D-Baggery" - but LinkedIn will automatically "suggest" skill areas related to what you've posted in your profile. I think that's where this guy is just clicking on everything LinkedIn "suggests" even though I've never done some of the skills, they are related to my profile.

Still, dumb.
