No they will not be there. You have to order it on line and have it shipped to either your hotel/condo or home. 1 day rental is cheaper and you then need most likely to send it to PCB location. Here is the website to order one. |

Or could I have it delivered Friday to the hotel front desk? |

Expert 1091 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hi all! Race number is 2655. This is my first Ironman!!! Gulp! My coach's estimate of time for me is 12.5 to 13 hours. My goals are to do the best I can on the day, stick to the plan, trust in my training, keep my sense of humor, and enjoy the WHOLE EXPERIENCE! I'm racing with about 15 people from my team and my number one training partner, Rgr375. We've trained with this goal together over the whole last year. This is gonna be one amazing experience! I can hardly believe that we are under 2 weeks away!!!!! |

I could have sworn their website said 19.95 for a one day rental!? Although, the guy did say that it would get there by the Thursday before the race... hmm... I guess there's no other option. |

The website says $20, but I just got the following email: If you rent it as One Day Event rental, the delivery is on Thursday before the race. If you will be in Panama City Beach already on Thursday, we can ship it to your hotel or residence you will use for the event. Total cost is $44.95. If you rent it for One Week rental, the delivery is on Monday before the race. Total cost is $74.95. If you would like a One Week rental, please order today or tomorrow as we will be shipping out those orders on Thursday of this week. Those seem to be the One Week and Two week prices. Am I missing something? |

I assume so. I used one in LP in '08, and got info. to websites. I tracked friends using it on IMWI this year..they have one website that includes all folks doing IMWI and you could click on person name and see where they are, how fast they are going, how far they have to go. Plus had both a map with where they are located, and also way to see where they are on a 140.6 line with the different elevation..it was quite cool. I watched all the BTers that had one for WI, when I was on line. After I selected their name I could go easily between the 5-8 people I was watching. For friends watching that know about tris it was amazingly cool. They also had an application for cell phones that is a bit simpler but you see exactly where they are. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I emailed them about how to wear tracking device...below is what he replied. It might help folks think about how they are going to wear it. We ship the Shadows with carrying pouches and race belts threaded through them. The instructions are that you have the Shadow with you the night before the race and you fully charge them. We ship you the charger too. Battery life at full charge is 22 to 24 hours of reporting time. So on race morning, you have the Shadow in hand with the pouch/race belt. When you go to check on your bike, before you do your swim, you turn ON the Shadow when you are by the bike, insert it into the carrying pouch so that the blue Shadow label is visible through the clear plastic screen of the pouch, secure the velcro closure well on the pouch, and wrap the race belt (with pouch) around the handle bars of the bike. Then go do your swim. The turn ON (and turn OFF) procedure requires you to press and hold the power button for 3 seconds. We provided the above instructions so that the athlete can turn on the Shadow when they are not rushed and exhausted after the swim, and so they can see that the LED lights are flashing correctly. (It's on the instructions sheet, but when you first turn on the Shadow (outside), it will start blinking red, the fast blue then fast green, then slow green - like once every 4 seconds. The slow green means it acquired cellular phone connection. The whole boot-up or boot-down process takes about 10 seconds.) The race belt we provide with the pouch can be used to hold your your race number for the entire ride and run. We have no problem with athletes putting Shadows in their jersey or pant pockets, they just need to test the transmission through the pocket before the race. On rare occasions there are some fabrics with special treatment (like waterproofing) that block GPS signal. But it is rare. There are two tough things to work out about wearing the Shadow in a pocket. One is turning on the Shadow before the swim. The other is making sure that it is positioned correctly in the pocket. 1 - If you have the Shadow in hand before the swim and turn it ON as per our instructions and leave it hanging on the bike handle bars, then you will have to take it out of the pouch and put it into your pocket after you changed into your biking gear. If you charge the Shadow in the morning before you checked your gear, and put it into your T1 bag with your bike gear, then you have to remember and take time to turn it ON after you did your swim. You may be rushing yourself, or your hands may be trembling from exhaustion. But maybe you will be fine. The athlete knows better, and ultimately it is their choice. 2 - Then there is the directionality of the Shadow in the pocket. The Shadow use requires that the blue Shadow label is facing away from the body. Right behind the blue label is the GPS antenna. Behind the antenna, the whole back of the Shadow is the battery. If an athlete puts the Shadow in their pocket with the blue label facing the body, the GPS antenna is sandwiched between the battery and the body, and does not work at its' best, sometimes very poorly. I have suggested that if athletes want to wear the Shadow in a pocket, that they tape it to a small piece of cardboard on the back of the Shadow so it sits on the cardboard with the blue label facing out. And if the pocket is loose, so it would not bounce and rotate are you are running. This suggestion still requires you to work out a good solution to turn ON the Shadow at some point before you start biking. One final comment for best tracking performance. If you ride or run with fuel or water bottles on your waist, please move the Shadow so it is not covered by them as water blocks GPS signal. |

Veteran 239 Austin | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I asked that question... From the Athlete Tracker folks: When customers rent the Shadow tracking units from us, we provide them with 2 web addresses to track the athlete. The first web address is for tracking an athlete on computers and smart phones like the iPhone or Droid. The second web address is for tracking an athlete on PDA's like the Blackberry or Palm. Those web addresses are determined when we assign Shadows when we pack orders for shipment. We print them on the instructions sheets we send with the orders. |

I rented one at louisville last year and it's really very easy. There is a card in your shipping pouch that has the website and operating instructions. Just wear the belt provided or put the gps in your jersey pocket. I just wore the belt all day and didn't have any problems. |
