Get it straight... 9 min 19 sec pace. Those 19 seconds make a difference.Wink It should actually be a good workout. I'm just glad my legs are between 4 and 6 miles. 4 legs over 2 days..... should be a lot of fun.

I KENOTT swim - 2010-02-19 1:54 PM Justine and I are now signed up as part of a Texas Indepence Relay team (11 runners).  Our team "Succeed or Secede" will run 203 miles from Gonzales, TX to Deer Park,TX at the San Jacinto Monument.  Justine is signed up for 4 legs of 21+ miles and I am in for 4 legs for 24 miles.  Since we were the last two in we also get the fun legs in the middle of the night (yes, no resting someone on the team is running for 33 hours straight).

We run March 6/7.  Should be interesing. I am looking forward to the challenge.

Thank god our team is not trying to race.  Justine and I just need to run 9 min / miles.

You guys should have fun.  They have a Hood to Coast relay out here that is huge.  I have a lot of friends who do it and they have a blast.  I got one piece of advice.  Headlamp.

Ken/Justine - Enjoy the relay.  I've heard it's pretty fun!

Sooo.... around 5am I had a panic attack when I realized I have an Olympic distance tri in 6 weeks!Surprised  And I've never swam 1500 straight in open water and haven't run a 10K since December!  I got the information for the A.R.T. guys and will give one of them a call Monday but am thinking about testing the knee today on the treadmill for maybe .5 mile before hitting the pool.  At least I know the bike won't be an issue.  I guess that's the good news.

ETA: I have swum 1800ish at the lake but not without chatting it up around the docks.  I need consistent warmer weather so I can get to the lake to build up my confidence.

You'll do fine.  Most Oly's have lots and lots of buoys out there.  Think of them as floating docks just in case you need to stop for a chat.  Oh, and getting a few OWS in before the race is also a good idea.

So after today's slow run, I looked at my training and thought a bit about winter training thus far.  Fair to say that the area I've improved the most is in my snot rocketing ability.  I can send them with ease and grace from the left and from the right.  Bilateral snot rocketing.

My mother would be proud.

Happy Monday kids!

How was everyone's weekend?

I've been given the official "if it doens't hurt you can do it" clearance by the doc this morning, so I'm hopeful to get a bit of training in this week.  He seems to think that, as long as I take it easy, I should easily be able to swim, bike, and potentially even use the elliptical.  Running is out for at least 4 more weeks though.

So I'm going to start easy with a bike and probably some weights over lunch.  Yayyyyy!!!

Anyone ever true their wheel?  My mountain bike rear tire is in serious need of truing and I am trying to decide where it is on the frustration scale of bike maintenance.  Given that I have 5 bikes to keep up (two are not mine) I got a bike stand with the intent of doing all my own work except maybe the occasional overhaul and shock maintenance.  But, I also get frustrated pretty easily.   I'm willing to be frustrated though if I can still get it done in a reasonable amount of time.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Saturday was Brendan and I cleaning out Olivia's pen so he gets his deposit back, lots of shoveling then we all took him to dinner to celebrate!

Sunday Ken and I went for a nice swim, it felt good to be able to take my time in the water and made me feel better about my upcoming Oly.

Great news ~ I found out last night our YMCA is going to start offering masters classes a week from today.  They are FREE!  And offered Monday evening and Saturday morning!  VERY excited!

Well I didnt race. I am having a horrible let down Monday.

My twins were down this weekend and they both got sick on Saturday and through the night. So I really didnt sleep great. Last year I got a room close to the race I thought I would just make the 1-1/2 hour drive in the morning to save money. Up and looking to leave about 5 am the radar looked horrible. I would say no chance of racing at 8:00am. Maybe a 2 hour delay. Were my issue is I have to take them back on Sunday and a long delay of the race start makes it so I cant race. Plus now its leaving everyone at the house since the twins are sick with the wife and baby while I go and race/sit and wait to start. The wife is a trooper and said to go but if the race doesnt start by 9:30 I will have to leave the race anyways. So I stayed home. Just keep telling my self no biggie its not an A race just a warm up for fun race.

Good Morning everyone!

Nicole - glad to hear you can start trainning again...just be careful!

I hope everyone is getting some good workouts in.  I am starting to feel the soreness for the first time since I started the HIM trainning.  Sunday's workout was great because it was just a short recovery run.  This week is is filled with TT so that should be fun.

Keep working hard and putting up good numbers.

Chin up, don't let it get you down   It's certainly a bummer that you didn't get to race, but it's one of those things you just have to put in the "life happens" bucket.  And you'll be crushing plenty more races this season

Hang in there. I know missing a race is frustrating. Life gets in the way of our hobbies sometimes.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Todd it sounds like you did the right thing.  The logistics didn't sound good and since it's not your A race, why jump through hoops?

We had a good weekend, spent it running after the kid and doing apt stuff.  We had an open house and had 17 different groups walk through, we think it's a good sign since we've only been on the market for 4 ish days and had over 35 different groups walk through.  Hopefully someone puts in a good offer.  Our new place looks literally like garbage.  It's hard to imagine what it's going to look like when everything looks demolished, our living room and bedrooms are filled with trash..  I took some pics with my phone, i think you can get the idea..

I officially have 33 days until my 10k. Question: what should my running workouts look like for the next 33 days? Yesterday I ran 4 miles for the first time ever and felt pretty good with that. The plan is to run every other day (we'll see how this goes with school and group commitments but it's definitely looking doable right now). When should I increase the distance I'm running and by how much?

Truing a wheel is pretty easy IF it's not in too bad of shape and IF you have a truing stand.   You can do it using your brakes as the gauges, but you won't get it as straight.

On the other hand, most bike shops will do it pretty cheap if they don't have to replace spokes or actually "fix" anything.  If your spokes are intact but the wheel is pretty wobbly, I'd take it in and pay to have it done.

I'll let Eric or someone else more knowledgeable than I answer your question  But I will say you have time to get to a 10K.

Thanks everyone for the cheer ups yesterday it helped. So to help me get back in good spirits I went and got me some new shoes. I need them anyways. Broke them in last night. So today will be finishing out my goals evaluation. Need to get that finished up today. Also I have convinced the wife that since I missed a race I get to add a race to the plan. Will be looking for something in August to add to the plans. Just to remind everyone, its a lost night.
