Hey guys! Rode up a little mountain yesterday--probably 5-6km at 7-8%. Probably going to ride up a bigger mountain on Sat in Vancouver--Mount Cypress or Mount Seymour. Cypress is about 15km at around 5-6% avg grade and Seymour is about 12km at around 7-8%. Hmmmm which to do, which to do....?

Thanks for the calming words too about long ride and long run. Runnerx: I like your point about cumulative training. Haha. A single long ride/run isn't going to make or break IMLP for me! I have put in the most volume ever over the past few months by looking at my training graphs for the past few years. Haha. It has pretty much been a steady climb.

Speaking of food, I have a 56 mile loop that I like to do that as a State Park with homemade ice cream at about mile 45.  I have yet to stop on the ride for fear of not starting back up, but sooooo tempting... They should have a beer garden on each loop for motivation...

The Sea Gull Century has pie and ice cream at mile 70. I partook and finished just fine

I'm planning on my Oomph tri shorts all day and a tri top with sleeves (sun does not agree with me), I will also put a running shirt in my run bag and decide race day if I want to change shirts in T2. Last year was cool so I just wore the same outfit all day and it was fine. I like running in my tri shorts, so that is not an issue with me. Jim

Hey James,

Are you meeting me at the Lake Placid Brewing Company afterwards, ala Louisville 2009??

Who else is really tired right now?

I fell asleep on my couch at 11 AM right before my bike ride.  I feel like someone sprinkled sleepy dust on me.  The good thing is I don't feel 'run down' ; I'm not sore -- I feel good, I don't feel like I'm getting sick.  I just feel like I've been up for a couple of days straight!!   I've felt this fatigue before with marathon and 70.3 training, but it usually only lasts a couple of days.

I'm going to pop a multi-vitamin and try to get some extra rest.

Why not? I do like watching the last finishers at 12, assuming I'm not one of them.

Yes!! I feel like this... at work I just want to crawl under my desk and go to sleep.  Like you, I am happy my legs feel fairly springy.  I do have some sniffles my kids gave me, too, though

Hey guys. I'm back in irrational freak out mode. Now I'm worried my long bikes wern't long enough and my long runs not long enough! Sigh. My longest ride was 6:00 and my longest run 2:30. My plan didn't have anything longer though...so I should just be content going with my plan. I guess I was always going to suffer a bit on race day though...It ironman....haha.

Just looked over my taper schedule. Taper looks so measly...Haha.

I know there was a discussion on the IM Distance forum about the run last month.  There are alot of plans and coaches that call for no more than 2:30 or 16 mile runs.

My coach doesn't really have anything crazy long going on either.  I never have a ride over 5hrs on the schedule and my runs don't get too long either (I actually over ran a little last weekend, shame on me).  I also go fairly easy on the weekends because I have quality sessions during the week and wouldn't be able to execute properly if I was too beat up from the weekend trying to hit race pace for everything.

I've got about another week of quality work before I start backing off about 10 days out.... a little jealous of you all in taper mode already!

Same here, acumenjay, except it is my weekends that are easy. Long bike and long runs are separated by 3 days, so maybe long ride on Monday or Tuesday and long run on Thursday or Friday. NO WAY I could do those back-to-back bike/runs many of you are doing - I am way to fragile for that - in my book you are all already Ironmen! I too begin my taper 10 days out.

Me...I was feeling super fuzzy this morning...decided to caffeinate that issue, it worked...but now I'm starting to crash again...I need to have a nap...picking the BF up at midnight...There is no way I can stay awake till then without one right now. It is extremely difficult to get out of bed in the morning! Haha.

I'm feeling alright once I get going in my workouts lately...I start out a bit sluggish and end up feeling better after a few minutes.

Topic: Race Day Clothing

Question: What are you wearing on race day? Same suit all day? Changing?

WHAT???? HOW IN THE WORLD WILL I RECOGNIZE YOU ALL UNLESS YOU WEAR EXACTLY WHAT YOU HAVE ON IN YOUR AVATAR?????? I mean Kate would definitely be the most fabulous on the run, mbrbrad would be the fastest down the Keen descent, but PLEASE tell me mndymond you have traded in the SaxoBank Jersey for Leopard Trek? Laughing

Me? Most likely two piece Desoto Carrera Tri Top/Forza Riviera Tri Short all day. Although yesterday I had a 1:10 swim followed by a 5:00 bike and 0:15 run-off and wore a Desoto Forza Tribib all day - it was perfect, so I am a little torn.... Still some time to decide, right?

DC - nothing wrong with a little nap - way to get your butt of the sofa and out there on the bike!

No matter when I read this the answer will be the same; me!

ETA = @Fred - This is my first 140.6. Maybe my last. The training takes a lot of time!

Fred Doucette - 2011-07-06 9:19 PM Question?? How many here are doing their very first ironman at LP this year?? I've always thought the most exciting ironman is your very first and was just curious about this group as I suspect a lot are doing their first here.

This is my first. I played the role of Sherpa last year for my wife. Ready for the experience.

I am feeling pretty good today, but then again today was an off day for me. Besides 1.5 hours of Deep Tissue Massage my biggest challenge today was getting into some sort of new-fangled M&M package - I mean, who puts M&Ms in a child-proof container????

*Fred - as you know this is my first IM rodeo. I am ready to go.

My first 140.6 Fred.  A group of 8 of us are going up.  Should be exciting.  Just looking to have a good time, enjoy the day and absorb the atmosphere without having any expectations of myself.  It's been fun watching our group progress the past few months.  There's also about 15 of us booked to run the philly marathon which should be cool.

Next year I'm focusing on speed and power and a couple of 70.3s I think.  It's more "doable" from a training logistics standpoint for me and then if life permits I may make an "all in" run at glory with hopes of booking a family vacation on the big island.....got to have dreams   Aim high!

Hey Nick, I read your blog, you are in the zone man!  Good stuff!

Yup!  IM virgin here as well.  Nervous as all hell but getting pretty amped up to hear my name at the end!  Family has been very supportive but it does press the buttons at times, so I think I'll need to cut back for a year or two until both kids are in school full time.  Hardest part so far was the agonizing winter indoor training!  I like training outside SOOOO much better, so I think my next IM will be in the fall...
