Since you are in the giving spirit... I would put it to good use!   If I even mention buying something else right now, I would get the evil eye (and then some) from the misses!

Houstonrider - 2010-02-26 10:04 AM Happy Friday everyone...

-Congrats on the bike, post pics when you get her.
-Justin, now you just need a D6 to match your new wheel.
-Best of luck to every one racing this weekend. If you're into betting, Ken is favored by 8 minutes over yours truly. (It's a DU and Ken rocks the run, and I'll be lucky to hang on with the bike).

Also just a thought, the weekend of March 13th or the 14th, I was thinking about riding the Galveston course, let me know if anybody would be interested in joining.

Thanks for the link, it totally make sense..  during yesterday's run I felt exhausted and legs felt crampy after running just 2.5 miles and today my legs feel tight, as if I ran in a race..

evondo - 2010-02-26 10:12 AM That's awesome about the bike, let us know how she rides!

Carbs is the fuel of endurance athletes, make sure to still eat them after workouts or you will feel sluggish. Also, not all carbs are created equal... LINK. Your new diet may have reduced the carbs your body was using for workouts and recovery...

trying1 - 2010-02-26 8:45 AM X3 Ken good luck!

This Monday I'll get my first true tri-bike!  I got a demo 2009 Felt b12 for very cheap, I'll even have some store credit left!  It supposedly has less than 200 miles and looks new..  I can't wait to try it out on the road.

Now I just need to get my training back on track, my wife's new health kick is kicking me in the butt during my workouts.  No energy at all and my legs extremely tired, legs felt a little wobbly during the run.  I though I would have more energy eating a lot more veggies and fruit and less processed carbs, but it seems I need more of the bad carbs to get me going??  Does that make sense?  Hopefully it's just my body getting used to eating healthy or that I'm trying too many new things at once..  like the bikram..

Very informative. I'm also trying to loose weight as well and one thing I do is make sure I carbo load after working out. It's my understanding that carbo loading prior to, or the night before does little if anything to increase your energy store. However, carbo loading after exercise will aid in recovery and will also increase your energy store for future work outs. Obviously this won't happen over night, but it seems to be working for me. I also make sure I eat some protein right after working out and drink lots of water.

I will be in my hometown for my grandma's 90th birthday tonight, and tomorrow night I'll be at the Breaking Benjamin/Three Days Grace concert!

Oh yah, and I will do some training somewhere in there too.

Happy Friday everyone.

Very true, the whole 'carbo loading' done during taper by most triathletes is wrong and too short to actually be effective.  Eating pasta the night before is not an adequate carbo load... LINK. Notice most carb intake is after an AM workout on an empty stomach, helps to increase the carb absorption.  It's not discussed in that article but a 4:1 carb:protein ratio has been proven to be the most effective post workout in repairing muscle and recovery...

I don't follow those carbo load instructions in detail but I do focus on good post workout meals and overall better eating in the couple weeks leading up to a big race.  I also love the pancakes the day before the race along with plain spaghetti w/meat sauce for dinner. My reasoning for the spaghetti is more the fact I know how my body reacts with it and I don't risk any upset stomach due to a restaurant screwing up the food.

Way to go BvD on the PR using the secret girl "c" elixer that you and KD are sharing and lotioning on and ..... crap where was I. Oh yeah come on speedy racers this weekend go out there and tear it up. And to those that just say "oh I think I will do an all out 10k for fun" yeah have fun too. Also just to make it legal and public knowledge. Justin has promised me a new set of race wheels with PT when he wins the lottery. Booyahhh I am banking on that. I never thought to ask but does everyone know what we are talking about with the "c" speed think

Hey peeps, finally in Tucson and unloaded the vehicles.  Place is a mess but important thinks like gas, TV, and internet are being hooked up.  By the way, it gets cold at night in Tucson.  Would have been awesome to have gas last night.   Two very long exhausting days of driving, 16.5 one day and about 13 yesterday.  Shoulders and neck are very stiff from the all day driving, made even more difficult since I was hauling the camper.  Pets are at least glad to be out of the vehicles.

Today's workout consisted of lifting heavy boxes.  Think that is all that is on the agenda for today.   I'll get back at it tomorrow.  I'm just glad to not be eating fast food anymore.

Good luck to the racers this weekend.

H E L L NO you aren't going down without a fight!  And Justine, racing the bottom .5 lbs of the Clyde AG (eat well Sat night), is the one having a shot at hardware - I am hoping he gets it.  I have to beat the 40-44 geezers and d&mn they are fast from what I remember in the last DU.

SNOW on my bike - no, no no.

It might be raining Sunday - goal is to have a good race, have energy to hit the finish line with force.

Thanks for the good wishes - hopefully this crudd I picked up today will disappear tomorrow.  Hopefully the bike will reappear tomorrow (LBS did not work on it all week).

I am in for the Lonestar course even though I am not competing.  The spectators should be familiar with the course also.

Well, 16 inches of the white stuff today.  Y closed, roads treacherous, rode the trainer last night, so today's workout of choise was.......snow shoeing.  A little under 2 hours of cruising  and I feel like I ran 10 miles, although it was probably only 4 or 5.

Good luck to all of this weekend's racers!!!

Frost Yer Fanny Duathlon race preview.

I Kenott Swim decides to start at 8:00 - 8:15 pace to save a bit for later.  Although Justine's plan was a bit slower he can't bare the thought of watching I Kenott Swim fade into the distance (being the competitive freak he is).  So he speeds up to stay within sight of the now accerating I Kenott Swim because we all know about IKS's will-power for staying slow early (He drops to 7-7:30 pace).  They get to the bike transition and experience / bike placement within the transition area weigh in and I Kenott Swim clips in behind Justine.  Since the competitors were fortunate enough to get an extremely windy day and a course with ~1000 turns I Kenott Swim knows Justine has the advantage.  I Kenott Swim hammers to pass Justine and tips his helmet on the way by thinking "If I hang with him on the bike I can get him on the second run".  IKS decides to hammer hard after every corner which drives the heart-rate through 190 on the bike.  Justine keeps a ton of speed through every corner and manages to stay 3 bike lengths back the whole bike ride.  As the two pass a couple of aero helmets, Cervelos and race wheels they feel pretty good about holding 22-23 MPH when going straight without a headwind.  By the time I Kenott Swim gets to the transition he does in fact have the lead but he is dizzy.  Off these runners go on the second run.  The plan is for IKS to take .5 - 1 mile to get the legs back under control and then pick it up.  I Kenott Swim looks down at the Garmin as Justine passes (9:20 pace - HR 198)..."what the h&ll?"  I Kenott Swim attempts to keep Justine in sight for one last push at the finish... but the pace is too great.  I Kenott Swim takes the opportunity to walk a bit at a water stop and can't really get it going after that.  Justine finishes with a time of 1:29 (3mile/15mile/3mile) and obtains his first hardware in his TRI career finishing 2nd as a Clyde in this Duathlon.  With his shrinking frame this will likely be the last time Justine registers as a Clyde.  I Kenott Swim finishes 5 minutes behind and places 12th in 40-44 AG (10 pounds lighter than last DU).

Unlike Justine's race prediction this scenario is more likely.  Maybe I will actually listen to my own warning and run a smart race?
