WOO-HOO! Another weekend is nearly upon us and you know what that means!  Who is doing a little splish-splash, pedal, run action? I know of at least one chica....who's sporting some shoes for a speedy run?  Tell us all about it, including your strategy!

For the rest of us sideliners, what's on tap for the Holiday weekend?

I'm running the Coeur d'alene Marathon on Sunday. Just for fun training run really... my strategy is to take it easy and stay mentally strong toward the end so I don't slow to a shuffle. It's on the same course as the run for IMCDA, so I'll  be thinking of Kyla since she'll be running it in a few weeks after a 2.4 mile swim and 112 mile bike, amazing!

I'm, also, turning 41 Friday. Meeting my eldest daughter's new boyfriend, and going to Silverwood Theme Park with them (haven't decided if Sunday or Monday after the marathon would be best). And, visiting all my Spokane relatives this weekend, so it's going to be a busy one!

Good luck Crazy runner girl, and Happy Birthday!

The Shain's are kicking off the summer season in Minocqua!  Boat goes in the water on Friday....there won't be any OWS for me however, the water temps are 45F.  Instead a little biking, a little running and a lot of hangin out with our friends!

Sounds like lots of fun.  I think we will be looking forward to the pool on Monday.  It's going to get hot around here this weekend but no rain.

Happy early Birthday Roni! and good luck.  And after trudging around Disney w/ the kids the day after our Marathon weekend was the best thing for my legs.  Stairs were tough but the forced march sped up recovery.  :-)

Anyone read this article?

 http://www.usatriathlon.org/resources/multisport-zone/multisport-lab/develop-world-class-open-water-swim-mechanics

Some of it is contrary to what I have been taught in the past but that was by pool swimmers.  Sent it to our coach also for his opinion.  One sentence in there is the exact opposite of what a prior coach told me.  The article states that in OWS you don't get the glide you do in a pool so the end of your stroke should go past hips and be stronger there, where last coach told me to end it short and not splash as I was bringing the stroke out of the water.

No racing for me, but I will be starting another pair of shoes tomorrow, this time hot pink!  I had some heel pain during my run last night and got to my logs and saw that my trusty orange shoes had reached 169 miles...the apparent breaking point for my Kinvaras seems to be 170 miles.    Luckily I am getting them for just under 60 buckaroos, so it's not as bad as it could be!

Good luck to Sam, Tony, Roni and anyone else racing this weekend!  Everyone else have a safe and fun Memorial Day holiday!

ha!  that dude was standing up on the thing when the gun went off going up and down the line keeping people back.  he forgot to turn his board into us when the gun went off.  so he quickly went to his knees and turned it.  lol, this happened right in front of me.  i had no intention of going around him!  looks like he's pretty stable in this pic so i'm past him.   you can see him in this video by the red start buoy.

here's another from the finish... giving jarrett and my old man hug in the chute.

here's one from t1!  lol.  14 / 323 in the age group.  regular old bike shoes.  asking jarrett what my swim time was..  ha!  i should have been a lot faster.

ok i'm just getting a chance to really go through all these pics and vids.... i'll try to stop w/ all the ironman crap.  :-)

The local bike shop has a 2010 Cervelo P3 for $2700.  Is this a good deal? I keep telling myself I don't need it.  I can ride my Cervelo S2 until I wear it out. But I keep going back to the shop on lunch hours to lust at the P3.

Awesome for you, Roni! And happy early birthday!

Is your marathon the exact course of IM CDA? Same turn-arounds? They have changed the run course this year -- having us go all the way up a hill and down the other side a bit before turning around (you used to go only part-way up the hill). If you do the same course, I'll be curious where the turn-around is, as it wasn't marked when we were there for camp. Good luck!!!

But more importantly, how is that sore throat and achy muscle thing???  Rest!

Re: the bike question...ah, so tempting!  But if your S2 has been doing the job, and you are comfortable on it, I wouldn't want to change just 2-3 months away...new position and all (although 3 months is probably enough time).  However, if not super comfortable anyways, well....ah, so tempting.  I'll leave it to others to talk you into or out of it!

I'm having CDA flashbacks. Last year I was not worried one itty bitty bit about the swim. After going through 1:05 of total body-beating, I will honestly say I am sort-of dreading it this year. The eternal optimist in me is hoping that maybe it won't be as bad as I remember. And I might try starting in the first row this year (last year I did second) to see if maybe I can find open water for a few seconds here and there. Wishful thinking, I'm sure...

I have two things to say.....

First.....For Kim's sake,  IM WI does look like that, but that is the front 1/3 of the pack....waddle back to where I started and it is much less intense.  Even with the double loop.  If it was a single loop course, I would assume it would clear out even more.....

Second.....WE SOLD OUR HOUSE
