I raced the Grand Haven Olympic this weekend.  One of my favorite races.  Swim is in Lake Michigan which flipped overnight.  It was 76 degrees and then was 63 race morning.  Actually I would rather have 63 than 76 for a wetsuit swim.  The thing that kind of sucks is the transition area is 0.75 miles from the water so its a long arse run.  Came out 3 minutes slower than last year most likely due to going against the current this year.

Bike and Run were really solid - cut 3 minutes off my bike and 3 minutes off my run this year compared to the same course last year.  1:05 bike and :40 run.  Legs were ready to rock and knew it from the get go on the bike...always a good feeling.

Finished in 2:21 which comparibly is around 2:14-2:15 if you take out the long transition run.  I really wanted to break 2:15 this year at an Olympic so happy with the race.

Awesome!  Great improvement

Wicked hot 50 miles yesterday.  I think the heat scared off the plodders like me, so it was hold on, pray and melt.  Has anyone had success with those supposed cooling beanies?

I've used the beanie, arm coolers and coolwings from De Soto, most recently in Las Vegas on a very hot day.  Kept my arms cool with water but was wearing an aero helmet.  After the race, I noticed that any little breeze actually made me cold, and it was near 90 out.  I found what helped more or as much was ice cold water down the crotch

Awesome, thanks.  Those are the ones I had in mind.

Fred D - 2012-07-09 12:08 PM Ok who's watching the tour? I am an avid fan and have been pretty happy with the first week.

Me.  Ready for some big mountains though.  Not really interested much in today's stage other than the last two riders, but I don't expect things to change much

Interesting discussion recently about how race radios might be contributing to the crashes (seems like they've increased) as DS's are telling their riders to try to take certain lines or attack when it's not actually reasonable to do so

Sagan is sick.  I'm with Millar on the salutes, "Totally for Sagan and his crazy salutes, he's 22, he's got plenty of time to grow old and dignified."  Next year, maybe not so much.

Today is the first day I've had any time to watch and I was NOT disappointed at all. As a matter of fact, I'm watching the replay of it now. Pretty amazing stuff.
. Ha, me too watching it as I type lol.

I have been watching every stage.  Hard to miss it when they replay it 3 times a day.  No spoilers for todays stage please..I have to watch it tonight!!

I love the mountain stages..so brutal!

Yeah, it's official.  This whole thing is a schtick.  I would love to know who it is, because it is well done.

Watching the tour and enjoying it.  I'll post some thoughts about it tomorrow after everyone has a chance to watch the TT.

I actually raced "with" her in Vegas in April.  NEver saw or met her, but looked up a photo afterwards.  Sadly, I think she's real....

lalalalallalallalalal...fingers in ears (or in this case hand over eyes)

Just saw Fred's post about watching the Tour and promptly blasted past a 1/2 page of posts, looking to avoid any spoilers.  I was away all weekend and have some serious catching up to do with my DVR. The wife will not be happy...

Jen - congrats on getting through the 1/2 and doing so prettu comfortably.  I had a feeling that run was going to be a scorcher.

Ryan - 40 flat for an Olympic run, that's blazing.  Nice job!

I've got a roadie. Took her out for a short check-out ride, and I'm pretty sure I'm in love.

No big miles this weekend - got my long ride in during the week. 12 weeks out from my A race.

Getting back to Masters has been awesome - and tiring!

Awesome Elaine!!!!!!

Glad you got it!!!!  And i hope it provides you many many happy miles!!!

Good morning!

Very sleepy and sunburned today - my race yesterday went well. The run was very hot - on a country road with absolutely no shade but I am still happy with the overall result. The bike was short of 90k and my only other HIM was more than 90k so it's not really an apples to apples but i was about 35 mins faster on this course!  I really faded in the last 4k of the run - i was having conversations with myself about just keeping going between aid stations but I also had to remind myself not to push too hard because this was not my A race i didn't need to totally wreck myself. I needed to be able to resume training asap so I walked a bit but still not all that much.

Really happy with how calm I was on the swim - it was a mass start and i stayed a little back but didn't wait as long as usual.

Congrats Jen!!!!  Awesome!!!!

i have actually chatted with her, she is real, and she does really try, although some of her posts are a bit.....ok...WAY over the top.  She is actually quite nice, but sometimes common sense should dictate.

To me, it seems like she takes pride in being the OP of a multi-page thread, and she likes to put herself down so everyone else will compliment her. I try to avoid her threads all together...
