Question for Jason,

I think you mentioned that you saw/handled FVL's bike at Kona ? Did I dream this ?

If so, do you remember a computer on it ? I am curious to know what he uses as a computer with his Powermeter.

As you may know he is the poster dude for Polar, yet his PM doesn't work with a Polar. Kind of ironic.

that's what I thought. Herbert did a top 15 kona guys with their equipment and they don't mention his computer, They leave it blanked out
I am not sure if that is intentional or not.

Nice shot here between his knee and elbow

Edit : it's funny, I posted this and had a banner at the top saying "Polar V800" chosen by champions and one at the bottom saying "Polar V800" coming soon :-)

Frederick wasn't the only one. They had trouble getting all the computers as not everyone brought them to the bike check. They brought them the morning of.

I realize I am way late to this party, but I would love to join/read/contribute to this thread, if possible. I have been away from BT for a while, but have recently been reading again. It is good to see some old faces still contributing.

Name: Scott

I just finished my first injury-free season of Triathlon. I have been able to overcome a nasty Achilles issue that had plagued me for over two years and I'm finally 100% back at it. Other than that, I am looking forward to following, listening in, and contributing to this thread if that is alright with everyone. Thanks for holding the space Fred!

Hi, Thanks!!! I was wondering if anyone in this group is planning on IM Louisville next year. Or what races, if any, are planned for next year. Sorry if this has already been discussed. I am skimming through the 86 pages of this thread with delight.

Hi Scott!  I haven't seen anyone mention Louisville.  We are currently working on getting everyone into Alcatraz.

That one is a bucket race for me, for sure. I'm in Vermont, so this will be our first of really traveling for a race. Last year I did the Lake George half iron, this year is Louisville. I think I will soften up my wife and daughter, so should be able to get out there in a year or two.

Yup, most of the athletes did not check in their bike with computers...at least not ones like Garmins.  Interesting placement of his computer too...looks like it's for recording only as I can't imagine he can ever see the screen while on the aerobars.  He can probably view his polar on his wrist a lot better than the 510 behind his stem.

Welcome Scott

This time of year we really like to ramble about snow, cold weather, ice and other things that someone from Vermont can share expertise.

The guys from Hawaii just mock us.

85 does seem hot for a marathon, but we had rain, sleet and snow today. Wanna trade?

Really !!!....it's not like we hear you complain about flowing lava or stuff like that.

Speaking of which, do you know what the deal is with the volcano and the implications to Ultraman worlds ? A friend is racing.

I think the day 2 bike course was supposed to to right through that area. I suppose it depends on if they let athletes through the bypass road. With such few athletes maybe it will be okay, but maybe not. The race can still go on without the loop through Pahoa.

    Jason,

when you volunteered at Kona did you say you checked in FVL ?
Were you walking with him at bike check in ?

I doubt it was you but it could have been you on a video I saw.
