jdwright56 - 2008-06-13 7:47 AM Morning all - another 5 hours of sandbagging last night. I'm flippin' exhausted.
Any break from the weather in sight for you guys out there?

This morning they said that we could get scattered thundershowers on Saturday night - but we should be dry for 7 to 10 days after that, which would help a ton.

Fortunately, I am not concerned about myself, personally.  We happen to live on one of the highest areas in the metro.  I have two sisters that live in Cedar Rapids.  One has already been evacuated and the other has no power and they are being told to conserve drinking water.  It gets at me that I can't do anything for them.  I am big broither and I am supposed to be there for them.  I can't even get to them, at this point.  It is making me grouchy, nervous, emotional ...

I'm going to stop now.  It's better that way.

Glad to hear that you're alright. Hopefully CR get a break from this weather and dries out quite a bit too. I haven't been out here very long, and I can't say I've ever seen anything quite like this before.

TriToy - 2008-06-13 7:52 AM I am supposed to testify as an expert witness in a case in Iowa in 2 weeks....wonder if it will go on schedule....

What city?

good question, lawyers are from Des Moines, but flights:

I will make a reservation for you from Boston to Burlington, Iowa on Thursday, June 26 and returning to Boston from Davenport, Iowa/Moline Illinois around 6:30 p.m. that same day. Someone will be available to take you to and from the airport.

Henry County??

I would guess that that probably will go as scheduled. Our flooding at this end of the state isn't nearly as bad as the flooding out in Des Moines.

Morning TAN!  Happy Friday the 13th.  My mom always said that was her lucky day and I think the attitude has rubbed off on me a little.

Me, grouchy? Psh......................

I'm sure it has NOTHING to do with the fact that I'm still trying to collect money from friends, or that I slept 4 hours last night, or that my ex-gf keeps deciding it's a good idea to talk to me, or that I'm FRICKIN HUNGRY!

I'mna go cook a pizza.

I gots to say it - HTFU!

I'm going to rant a little - if it bothers you - I am sorry - truly - just ignore it and move on.  This is the only place I feel like I can talk about this without getting the Marma police to kick me out altogether.

So - Hy-Vee has been changed to a Du (10K/40k/5k).  Some people are upset about it.  A couple, in particular, are throwing a fit about it.  Sending e-mails to the race directors (have you thought about this..what about this..).  Just generally a bunch of complaining because there will be no swim.

Disappointing, I understand that.  Maybe you don't want to race now, OK, pull out.  Seriously, though, it is a freakin disaster and you need to show the people affected by this disaster a little more respect than that (and I'm not talking about me, for all intents and purposes, I am not really "affected" by it).  You have people that have lost everything, whose insurance is not going to cover it, who have their fathers day and mothers day gifts that they have saved for years that are washed away, who have lost a vehicle - and are upside down on the loan, so they will actually still have a payment on something they cannot use and most likely go to collection over it, doing damage to their credit.  You have farm fields that will not be of use for the year (farmers don't get money if they don't plant a crop), which will in turn make food prices rise (and gas prices thanks to fuel blends), you have a ton of infrastructure damage in several major cities and many more smaller ones that will once again cause a jump in insurance premium prices, for everyone.

Through all of this, they're biggest complaints are that they would have never paid $135 for entry into a Du and that, if they bail, they can't get their race packet or have anyone else pick it up for them.  Seriously - STFU

OK - I'm done.  Thanks for providing the space.
