Extreme Veteran 378 Warwick, Rhode Island | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island : Official Thread I am staying at home! This is a home town race for us (me, wifey and father are doing it). We are having a post race BBQ at our home. We have a pool and plan on using it no matter how cold it is...actually the colder the better. Anyone wants to stop by let me know. We are off of the highway 10 min south of providence. Vin |

We're coming in Friday in the early afternoon. Pre-race dinner will be at Cosantino's on Atwell. We have a couple of RISD graduates here and it came highly recommended. I'm staying at the Hilton too. We have a pool bro! I checked it out and yup, it's small. But it's still a pool. I'll probably meet you down there. I'll be swimming there Friday night. |

Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island : Official Thread OKAY, for those that dare... predict your Race Time: I've screwed my nutrition up for three straight HIM's. I genuinely think I've got it right this time and have practiced it in training and have thrown out all my "old nutrition" stuff from prior races. I've also dialed in a recent Professional Bike fitting, my Swim has come around just recently, and my legs are ready to Rock. I'm gonna go big and bold and predict a 4:58 for myself. I'm gonna predict that knowing the course from last year will help me. And I'm banking that finally figuring out my nutrition will allow me to put All Three Disciplines together for the first time ever in a HIM, as well. I'm freaking beyond amped. I'm ready to Race Now!

Regular 131 Flower Mound, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island : Official Thread Normally the spots for the IM races are not based on time. The races I have been to where they offer slots they just ask who wants them and pretty much give thema way if you have the $4 to apy for them. They are offering a pre signup for IMLP after the race as well so those that want to sing up will ahve the opportunity if they have the cash. See you then. |

Pro 4608 Brooklyn, NY | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island : Official Thread PennState - 2009-07-02 4:37 PM jmk-brooklyn - 2009-07-02 1:27 PM I won’t be signing up for IMLP (or any other IM anytime soon), but I’m just curious about this: I thought that one of the perks of racing and volunteering for an IM was that you had first crack at signing up for next year’s race, right? So, in theory, if a large chunk of the IMRI field decides to sign up for IMLP, there could be a substantial number of IMLP participants and volunteers that will be closed out before they get a chance to register, right? Not to mention all those people who are planning to drive up to LP on race day for the sole purpose of waiting in line to sign up for IMLP ’10. Won’t they be pretty upset? And wouldn’t they have a right to be? I mean, it’s great for IMRI participants but I’ve never heard of Ironman doing this before. Disclosure, I'm not doing RI 70.3 but am doing LP 2009 and am not PERSONALLY worried about signing up for LP 2010. I think you hit the nail on the head. Imagine you travel all the way up to LP just to sign-up. Perhaps you volunteer. But then you find out that 600 LP spots went at the RI 70.3 event. There will be people in line shut-out. Heads will roll on this one. If I were doing RI 70.3 I'd be thrilled, but I can guess how the people in line at LP will feel if they get shut-out. My only additional worry is that they are going to massively increase the limit for LP 2010 (new ownership, looking for more profit). The race is already quite crowded, especially the swim... but anything is possible. Wait till this gets on Slowtwitch... I wonder if all of this is due to the economy. Less people are signing up for races and there has been a higher number of no shows. They have probably done some math and estimate the number of athletes interested in signing up for the full and I would also guess there is a limit, even if they aren't overtly advertising it. I was willing to pay for a CF spot so if I finish next Sunday and find out I can't sign up, so be it. I think it's a nice offer and if it becomes the norm, could encourage people to participate in more races as a way to gain entry to the IM. And also, I've read here and elsewhere that the volunteer/in person sign up may be changing after this year anyway with most races doing online only. If that's the case, I'd be more than happy to do an HIM offering IM sign up to avoid the mad rush to secure an online spot. |

Coach 10487 Boston, MA | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island : Official Thread 1. I am signing up for LP 2010, if they offer it I am taking it and don't really care wheter it is fair or not. 2. Staying @ the Radisson in Warwick to be closer to the swim start and avoid the hassle of Providence. 3. To get slots to any of the 2009 IM you DO need to shoot for a certain time, in theory those finishing ahead will have 1st shot at those. Although usually not many peope take'em so they end up opening the slots to whoever wants to take it. 4. Finishing time? who knows, I haven't been able to swim in 3-4 weeks so that will be the the big question however I am shooting to get one of the Kona Slots on the 30-34 AG. Don't care if I am not even close, still that's the goal. I guess I'll need something like 4:15hrs or better. In the end I don't like time goals; I rather go after good execution and placing in my AG. As a secondary goal I am going to beat a certain BTer just for fun... See ya guys soon! |

Okay, here's the deal - or atleast it was last year - if you got to the Expo on Saturday, you were screwed. We had to wait on line for around an hour. I plan to leave for RI Friday morning, get Lunch, hit the Expo, at the Expo get an Early parking lot pass for the beach on Saturday, then Sign in to the hotel around 3-ish. After I settle my kids down, I'll probably hit the pool around 5-ish, quick dinner and bed. Then the next day, I'm going 'to try' and beat the beach traffic, set my bike up in T1, then go to the beach right there, and get some R&R under a beach umbrella while the kids build sand castles. That's my plan. |
