Regular 171 Madison, AL | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Yes Hampton Inn is sold out. So is: Best Western, Days Inn, La Quinta Suites, Resort City Inn, Red Lion Inn I think I will just try to do a vrbo. Holiday Inn express is wanting about 260 a night and for that much I can just about get a 2 bedroom condo that will be a bit more comfortable for the 4 of us. Thanks for the info. I'm curious if the CdA resort does an onsite signup a year out. I know the IMFL host hotel did that. So, basically unless you're there for the onsite race registration, you're not going to be staying at the closest hotel. Cheers! |

Veteran 237 WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I was hit by a car yesterday. The kid passed me then turned right in front of me. Got a mild concussion, 8 stitches in my elbow and a bunch of really pretty bruises and cuts. Helmet took a beating - cracked in several places. Better the helmet than my head. Looks like the bike will be OK. May get a new one anyway. I was on the road I was on because it's the one with the least traffic. Guess you can never tell what is going to happen. Looks like I'll still be able to do the Grand Columbian 1/2 just going to miss a little bit of training this weekend. |

Veteran 214 North Bend, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread achen2iron - BUMMER about your accident! Glad you were 'lucky' and hopefully will recover fast. Lots of the VRBO houses are already booked but don't show they are booked! I sent out about 5 requests and only one came back still open. There was one for Tamarack that had a house for 2000 or a lumberjack bunkhouse for $860. Also do a search on hotels in Cda maybe you'll find something not on the list - The AmeriTel Inn Coeur d'Alene had a vacancy via on line booking. Good luck. Ann |

It looks like I took most of the impact. The bike just has some damage on the right side where it fell to the road. I'm all damaged on the left where I hit the car. The wheels are still true and I don't see any scrapes on the carbon forks. Do you think a bike shop has some way to check for integral damage? I have been looking for a new bike anyway and I was hoping to pass this one on to my daughter. I would really like it if the kid who hit me had to help pay for it (not out of revenge, I just think a little consequence for actions might be a good idea) . Of course I haven't heard from him.... |

This should be immediately reported to your car insurance company (and his). IME his company will gladly pay for a new bike considering you were actually hurt, especially if you'll sign an I-promise-not-to-sue waiver. You would need a bike shop to total the bike, though. If it's a carbon frame they will probably be willing. |

I would at least have a bike shop check it out for your own peace of mind. You are about to spend several hours and hundreds if not thousands of miles on it in the next 10 months. It would be a bummer for something to happen later because of this accident. Peace of mind is such a nice feeling while training for an ironman. |

Veteran 202 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread So glad to hear that you are ok. I crashed a couple months back and brought my bike to my LBS where they were able to check the carbon fiber. Just cosmetic damage to mine but you should definately get it checked. Better safe then sorry |

Like others have already said, have your LBS check your bike for damage. When I crashed my bike a few years ago there were things that the bike shop found that I did not even notice. My crash was a bike-vs-bike hit and run. I turned it into my home owners insurance, they helped pay for a new bike. |

Champion 7347 SRQ, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Regarding houses: For those who have stayed before did you find it better to stay near downtown (seem to be smaller houses with higher prices) out outside of town (larger houses, lower prices). Was it hard getting in and out of town? Did you feel disconnect form the activities being outsdie of town. Being inside town were the activities too distracting? |

Veteran 202 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I have a similar question. For you CdA vets out there is there much difference between staying in CdA versus Hayden. It just seems that all the rentals in Hayden are cheaper but if it is a pain to get to and from the race just wondering if it is worth it. |

It just seems that all the rentals in Hayden are cheaper but if it is a pain to get to and from the race just wondering if it is worth it. I stayed in a home outside of town on the lake last year. It was a bit more of a drive getting there on race morning but it was well worth it to be away from the hype (my first IM). I was able to decide when I wanted to be around the crowds and when I wanted to be alone. It REALLY helped me stay focused but not overwhelmed during race week. If you are staying longer than the 4 days people typically do, I would say get a place outside of town and enjoy the beautiful scenery! |

Veteran 237 WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I drive in from the Washington/Idaho line all of Ironman week and race day and traffic/parking has never been a problem. I just took my bike into the shop to have it checked out after my accident and it sounds like they want to total it just because they cannot warranty the frame anymore. Hopefully the kid that hit me has insurance. I also need a new helmet and sunglasses. |

Veteran 214 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread If you work for the government, the Holiday Inn Express in Hayden has a great rate on rooms. They even have some suites left. Cost is $88-$150/night with government ID and $179-243 without it. I stayed there in 2007 and had a great experience. |
