SSMinnow - 2010-12-24 11:36 AM MERRY CHRISTMAS PEEPS!!! I hope you all have a great time with friends and family this weekend.

Linda, I really wouldn't get too knotted up.  You'll be grandfathered in since you qualified.  Same could be said for Chet if he was around to hear it!  I disagree with Fatty, I think the women's entire qualifying time could change.  It is pretty easy for a 45+ woman to qualify....take it from someone who knows.

Spanky, I know of a really beautiful, really expensive tri bike that pretty much has been sitting around.  It's custom and it's small!  Does anyone think it would fit him?

Fatty or Trevor, I think you should volunteer to do the list Glenn requested.  You both sling the most amount of crap in the group.  Jeremy did it last time, but he's MIA.

what are you disagreeing with there slick?  that was my point.

i'm with trev... no clue.  andy?
i'm confused. Who is Slick? And what is the disagreement about?

suz.  she read my post wrong and disagrees with what she interpreted i wrote.

yes, after drinking my first cup of coffee, i figured it out.  and i actually think i agree with both of you!  so kyla is slacks, suzy is slick...i'm waiting for mine.

btw, kc loves the pic of Michelle on the mechanical bull...she hasn't seen yours yet, how long did you stay on there again???

i'll get on trouble if i post your's.  and i stayed on 2 seconds longer than you!!!!

Ha!  Was there some short asian chick you guys found to replace me that night????  I wanna see!!!!  I think I was somewhere else that night....

Fatty--you said you thought women under 40 were going to have their times I changed.  I think ALL women's times will change, not just the youngsters.  Make sense?  Too much eggnog in your beer?  Oh, I do like the new nickname.  So much better than what I'm usually called.

Brent--thanks for the recommendation on the book. It looks interesting. I've read a couple very good sports specific mental training books, but was hoping maybe there was some Military "how to deal better with pain" mental training you could share.

Can someone come over to our house and remove the baskets we've been receiving???  We're up to 9 and I really don't know where to go with the Bacco's chocolate, the chocolate covered cherries, the fancy cheese/caviars, the cookies and a host of other things....planning on keeping the wine though

you're really getting old young lady.  my comment was in the context of sam's women under 40 comment.

get back to your game! we're done beating this horse.  lets get back to helping me run faster, dammit.

Wow – you guys move fast.  Looks like a great group and I’m looking forward to tapping your expertise.   Here's my bio:

NAME: Dan

STORY: I'm 52 and live in Sendai, Japan. I was part of a staff reduction at the end of 2007 and have given myself a few years off to a) catch up on life, i.e., things I like to do besides work b) see how far I can get with triathlons - ideally I want to do an IM, but I'm not in a hurry and thinking the earliest that will happen is 2013.

In 2008 I struggled with learning to swim and bike again. I hadn't really done either for 30-35 years and only knew how to swim with my face out of the water. I also struggled with getting my running going again. I've had knees problems since doing a marathon back in 2001. In 2009,  I did my first Oly and finished in 3 hours (literally 3:00:11). In  2010 I did 3 Olys including a 2:50 on the same course I did my first Oly.   I wanted to do an HIM, but never got my training up to the right levels - if I pushed too hard on the bike or run, I would end up with hip or knee problems for 3-4 days.

FAMILY STATUS: Married with two sons from my wife's previous marriage. We have 3 grandchildren.

CURRENT TRAINING:  I’m trying to slowly build a run/bike baseline that allows me to do an HIM in 2011.   I’m running 4-5 days a week and cycling 4-5 days a week. If I run 5 days, I bike 4 and vice versus. I get to the pool 3-4 days/week and having been spending most of my time on drills.  I take a 30 minute lesson once every 2 weeks.

2011 RACES: same 3 Olys as last year plus a near HIM (bike leg is only 70km)

Fukushima 10 Mile (end/April)
Sakata Oly (end/June)
Kisakata Oly (end of July)
Utsukushima Oly (end/Aug)
Shizuoka HIM (end/Sept)

INSEAM: 28 inches

For sure!

Sadly, I don't think we'll be seeing you at any races, nor can we provide any input about the courses!! Ha! Such a great line-up, though!

I purchased a 2010 Specialized Tarmac Elite end of last January has the Shimano 105's couldn't afford the Ultegra's just to save a few grams, but what I was told that is the trickle effect last years Ultegra's are this years 105's.

I kept looking and looking and tried several brands until I chose the Tarmac one was the lifetime guarantee on the frame and the way it rode smooth and fast fit me well especially after getting a professional fit.

Don't get stuck on a specific brand but try several.

Group has been busy, go outta town for a few days and end up 8 pages behind....for the FNG's (you military guys will understand that)...

NAME:
Dave...aka  Dino... aka Dineen....

STORY: I'm 43 and live a suburb of Milwaukee, WI.  Third + years of tri.  Got into this game after finally hanging up the hockey skates after 35+ years at the urging of my wife.  I think she was sick of me coming home with stitches.  Been part of this MG for 2 years or so??? or something around there.

I work full time as an Operations Manager for a Hyster Forklift dealership and cover most of the state of WI, part of Northern IL, and the UP of MI.  Also own and manage 3 apartments buildings as another hobby.

FAMILY STATUS: Married for 18 years to another "really short person" (keeps me in good with this MG) and have 2 daughters...one 17 (junior in HS) and one 15 (soph in HS) both going on 22.  Oh..fair warning...You will receive no sympathy from me on any kid issue!

TRAINING:  I'm also an Endurance Nation team-member and firmly believe in their training philosophy.  Currently in the middle of "Out-season."  Train with power on the bike and pace on the run..... Hoping to be much Faster in 2011!

2010 RACES: Completed 5 Oly's, 2 sprints, and ran a Ragnar Relay.  2010 motto was to compete and not just complete, and the MG was great in always pushing me to the next level or into the Hurt Locker, depending on where I needed to be at the time.

2011 RACES:  Planning on 1 or 2 HIM's, plus some Oly's, and Sprints.  Depends on clearance's allowed from the flight deck.  (Wife runs the family and social calendar, and they come 1st!)

WHAT TO I BRING TO THE GROUP:  Nothing but my competitive nature, some decent swim splits, and I know a thing or two about the bike.  But this year we hope to keep everything together during the run also.

INSEAM: 32 inches

Welcome to all the New MG Members......!!!!

White Christmas here in Sendai - woke up to find 4 inches of snow on the ground.   I did an hour on the trainer and then got out for a run in the snow late afternoon.  Nice fluffy stuff and up to about 6 inches by then.   I love running in the snow.

Happy holidays everyone!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO MY MG FAMILY!

Santa brought Paul the flu at exactly 11:30pm last night so the Shain family dinner is being moved.  I packed up all the food to be picked up by my BIL so the rest of the family can remain flu free.  Shoveled for the first time in a year.  I guess the man has more value than I thought.

So here's the question, do I avoid eating so that if I get the flu it's easier OR do I gorge myself knowing it won't stick around?  Big decisions!

Merry Christmas!

Great day today after a wonderful Christmas Eve last night.  We open presents on Christmas Eve now the kids are older and do the stockings on Christmas morning.  It looks like a pajama day today....just hanging around and enjoying our gifts and each other.  The kids have been great!

I know I get no sympathy with all the northerners here, but the front came through last night....in the 30's and blustery winds here.  Even have the logs lit in the fireplace.  It feels more like Christmas now than earlier this week when it was in the 80's and humid.

No training today.  Back to it tomorrow with an easy run and weights.

Sorry to hear about Paul....being sick at Christmas is not fun.

I say eat all you want and can today.   Isn't it the only day of the year the empty calories don't count?

STORY: I'm 27 and live in Jersey City, NJ. This is my first season of tri's and my first seaon of any endurance sport. For the last 26 years of my life I have professed that running is pointless... How ironic that I now find myself swimming, biking and running for miles on end. After playing baseball, basketball and football in high school followed by 4 years of D-1 football (Tight End), I am now embarking on a new adventure - becoming a triathlete.

I work in international logistics and travel alot; 16 hrs on a plane will not be condusive to training. I hope that the group can help me with training all over this great land. This is obviously my first MG.

FAMILY STATUS: Soon to be married and I have one "daughter", Georgia (miniture golden doodle).

TRAINING:  I will be using one of the training programs from this site. I bought a trainer and have a membership at the YMCA (indoor track and oly pool). Any input on what program to use would be great.

2010 RACES:Zero

2011 RACES:  TBD... I am not sure if I am going to do sprints to start or full tris.... first month will determine the registration.

WHAT TO I BRING TO THE GROUP:  I am extremly driven to find a new way to keep in shape. I am self motivated, competitive and perform best when I have some constructive criticism.

Hi Marshall

I'll be interested to hear how this compares to the grueling football life once you get going.  For what it's worth, sprints are considered "real" tris. I actually like them a lot for speedwork!

If and when you get the chance would love to see a pic of the puppy.  We just got a Cockapoo about two months ago and I plaster him all over my blog.

PS. I think it's funny people are posting their inseams ....a new MG trend and requirement.
