Great job getting it done! Finished my first HIITS on the bike this morning and then crushed myself little further doing a BOSU and Rip Trainer class this afternoon. |

Didn't feel any different, I was curious if it would feel better after a rest day. Still had similar soreness/tightness in the first mile, then felt OK. 16.47 miles in 3 hours running this week, so far so good! Also got the bike set up in the house this morning on the rollers, I'm going to do 30 minutes on it tonight after dinner. |

I have a set and took a nasty spill on them once and now I'm afraid to try them.....I need motivation to dig them out and give them another effort. There was a time when I used them 2x/week for a few months, but it's been a while. There is a pretty steep learning curve, but I have no problem on them any more. When I was learning, I set up the rollers between a bed and the wall, so I had something on both sides that I could grab onto. And if (when) i did fall, I just whacked into either the wall or the bed. At first it was all I could do to stay on, and I did fall off a few times. No TV, no video's, I could barely listen to music without losing concentration and falling off the side. Now I can watch shows, grab a water bottle, even use the remote. I also have a fork stand that converts the rollers to a normal trainer, but I haven't used it yet (my mom just gave it to me for christmas). I figure that will be useful for when I want to do hard sessions (Sufferfest video's). On the rollers, I can't sprint or do any real heavy power without losing it. It's mostly a smooth and steady endurance spin. |

I have a very basic trainer that I'm planning on doing a session on this afternoon. My next planned purchase is a better trainer that gives me power readings. Something other than HR to give me an indication of progress would be great. I'd love a computrainer, but it seems a little redundant having a trainer that cost twice as much as my race bike For those of you with rollers, you're much more brave than me. Just the idea scares me. I know someone who uses them in a doorway so he's got something to grab onto when he falls. |

I don't have a trainer or rollers. I have thought about getting some, but it's not been a priority. If I need to get a ride in and it's cold outside, I typically just hit spin class. I know that uses different muscle groups than trainer or a real ride, but at leasts its 'bike time'. That said, I'm not that strong on the bike, need to get stronger..and that simply comes with more T.I.T.S.! If I was to get an entry level trainer... what would everyone recommend? Just thinking about it a bit.

Member 108 | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Good Morning all, I lost man versus bed yesterday morning so did my long ride on the trainer yesterday afternoon. I had no choice but to watch the whole football game as well =). 800m total swim this morning followed by a 3 mile on the treadmill. I use a cycleops trainer. I would much rather cycle outside and we usually always have good weather but its great when pressed for time as well as doing intervals. I'm still getting acclimated riding on the streets versus my bike loops and open trails. When you type a message here, how do you paste a particular comment first before I respond ? Sorry, I'm still learning on the go =) |

Elite 4201 washington state | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED You have to have particular tires for the trainer or rollers? I thought I had read that they eat up the rubber. I think this pertained more to the rollers, but you change the tire for the trainer also? Obviously, I have neither. But it would be about the only way I would get seat time for 2/2 of the year. |

I KEEP AN OLD TIRE AROUND FOR THE TRAINER, BUT TRUTHFULLY....BY THE TIME I HAVE RIDDEN A GOOD SEASON ON THE TIRES I KNOW MY REAR TIRE ISN'T GOING TO GO OUT ON THE ROADS NEXT SEASON SO I DON'T ALWAYS CHANGE IT. IF I HAD MORE EXPENSIVE WHEELS I MIGHT HAVE A TRAINER REAR WHEEL. (sorry caps lock got stuck and I'm too lazy to fix this) The trainer can get boring....I do like a focused workout on it. If I were just riding for 30 min to get some movement in the body I wouldn't care......but to really train well I have to keep a focused work out. Whether it's the BT winter bike plan or a Spinerval or the Sufferfest (which I haven't tried yet but they look brutal!) |

Expert 829 | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED I don't use any trainer specific tire, but it's my understanding that rollers aren't nearly as harsh as a stationary trainer since the wheels move around a lot more on the rollers which distributes the heat better than a fixed trainer. I think if I did need a special tire, I'd buy a cheap wheel and swap out the whole wheel instead of changing the tire each time. My 'road race' bike is an old Trek hybrid with 700x23 Michelin Pro 3 Race tires. It is steel, has flat bars, and weighs 26 pounds. It's so old it has a 7 speed freewheel instead of a cassette! It's not really a great road bike, but at least I can mount good road tires on it. The first few years I used an old steel mountain bike with slicks and this bike is much better. Here's a quick photo of my indoor riding area with the bike. pretty simple, just a laptop with headphones, and the rollers. |

Champion 7163 Verona WI--Ironman Bike Country! | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED I use Gatorskins and run the same tires outside as well as on my CT. I swear those things are nearly bomb proof. Of course, I also use 650s so no one makes a trainer tire for me. Decent swim and pretty good run for me today. While it is still cold and really windy in Wisconsin the roads are semi clear and the sun is out. I consider that a big win. |

I do use a separate trainer tire, but that is because I have a dedicated rear wheel on the trainer. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED
Hey All! Looks like lots of great workouts going on today (and yesterday)! Congrats and keep it up!
I got in 48 minutes of intervals on the bike and 850yds in the pool this afternoon. I sure will be glad when the gym opens back up with regular hours next week when the students return. This morning girl needs to get up and at 'em!
Two questions occurred to me today...perhaps someone can help. 1.) Is a brick workout only when you bike then run, or is it any two disciplines back to back?
2.) When I swim crawl (and only crawl) I get cramps in my left (and only left) foot. If I stop and stretch it out a little against the wall, it feels better for a few laps, then cramps up again. I can also make it go away by pulling my toes up toward my knee, but then my form just goes to pot. Has anyone had this problem before? If so, how did you fix the problem?
Thanks!!
