Went on a pretty awesome bike ride yesterday. Hint, it was called the "Brews Cruise"

Sadly I didn't get to do the whole ride on this bike.

But did you wear sunscreen??

I did!!! Can't you tell I am glistening?

lol ok, I have to show off a little http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdju6UnsAAI&feature=em-upload_owner

Look at your arms. (I know we've talked about them before, but, still; they are worth mentioning again.) How many minutes a day? You should write a book.

Blah, blah, blah, run lots, consistency, blah, blah, beer, beer, more beer. Workout consistently, drink beer, blah, blah, blah.

But I paraphrase

Oh no! What happened/who got afraid?

JAY BENSON CANCELLED

Regrettably, due to the Boston Marathon incident and the resulting heightened security at Kirtland AFB, last minute security requirements for civilian entry to the Base have left us no alternative but to cancel the Jay Benson Triathlon.

Yeah. Sigh. Kinda hard to hold the race without the civilians.

On an only slightly random note, is Camp Pendleton tightening up as well? I would really hate to see the races there go.

I don't disagree with the decision but it makes me sad. This is one of my faves because it's on the base the run and ride are closed to traffic, part of the ride is along the airport runway (super cool), and it's a serpantine swim in a 50m pool. I also like it because it's Mothers Day so DH and the kid(s) come to spectate then we go do Mother's Day-ish things.

No... DS1 isn't doing tri's... yet.

THIS YEAR'S RACES: Lots of 5 and 10Ks and bike rides (one of which I get to do with Kirsten in a few weeks!!), and perhaps some track meets (1500, 3k, 5K etc.) AG Nationals (Olympic Distance) in August. Planning to run cross country in the fall before jumping back into marathon focus for Boston 2014. My training partner is doing Cal. Intl. in December hmmmm …

Oh yeah, and I am going to do a beer mile in a few weeks. Look it up. Serious business.

Did you you have a leeeetle race on April 15th too?

I noticed that there have been a lot of recent wetsuit purchases in the pod.  I think that it's important to have some background on how wetsuits work.  Sure they add buoyancy and that's handy (especially for certain adult onset swimmers) and the keep you warm but how exactly?

Wetsuits works by keeping an insulating layer of water next to your skin. So wetsuit has to first get wet and you have to warm up the water before it protects you from the cold water.

So, while they do keep you warm, you do still have that initial shock. It also means that if you have a chance to do a warm up swim, that it really helps to fully submerge and dooo eeet!

Or you could do the Yanti thing and make your sherpa bring a thermos of warm water just to pour into your wetsuit. This is in addition to the thermos with hot chocolate, the bottle with cool water, the 2nd-breakfast, the pre-race snack, the post-race backpack, the ... well, you get the idea.
