I wear a CamelBak fanny pack (45oz) for biking and carry extra in the bottle holders if I'm riding beyond 1.5 hours. I run wearing a waistpack that holds a standard water bottle.

I did a 19+ mile ride today, my first outdoor ride in several weeks. I had been planning a slightly longer ride but decided that I wasn't really up for it. It was 36 degrees when I headed out and 42 when I returned. I was dressed pretty much spot on for the weather.

Today's ride was the first with my new Garmin. I thought I had it set to auto-stop when I was not moving, but it kept timing anyway. I guess I need to read the manual again.

Great job, Nicole!  I'm still jealous that you got a Garmin!   I love geeky toys like that!

hope your fence building is going well owl And every one else weekend is going as planed

I wear a fany pack at work all day  holds my head set batteries transmitter  and my water   so  I am thinking it should be ok when I  going to need  much later on  carry water or gels just to where a fany pack cuase iam already use to have one on about 8 hour 5 days a week.  Well admit here u talk about all this stuff mostly just goes over my head  going to have to go to the store and look at some of it at least so I know.

I have done my bike already today but think i am going to do a good pool work out not jsut the 100 yards my plan calls for. and see how that feels.  enjoy your weekend  all

Hi Amy!  Great job on your workouts!

If you don't understand something, just ask us to clarify.  We will be more than happy to help.  That's what this mentor group is all about!   We are here to help each other become better athletes!!!

Cheers!

Speaking of Gramin, does anyone know of a product out there that will track my location via GPS and at the same time, send that data to the Internet?

This could be used in many ways, for example if I ask my wife to meet me when I get to a specific point with a banana and some gatorade, she can much more accurately anticipate when I'll be there.

Yeah!  There are radio collars for animals that use GPS technology for tracking purposes.  Or........you could always get an ankle bracelet!!!!

Hmm.  Well, Rodney.  Sorry I didn't elaborate.  Those are for wild animals.  They've been used on bears and deer and elk and a host of other critters.  I do think they are starting to be used on Alzheimers patients, though.

Wow, 7 miles on the treadmill -- nice work! How did you stay occupied for that long? Did you get your fence fixed?
How was everyone else's weekend? Today was a Rest Day for me. Right now I'm going through my closets tossing out all of the things that are too big so that I won't be tempted to fit back into them. Love it!

Got my swimming and spinning in today. With school starting again for the kids, along with their soccer and karate, it looks like my workouts will generally be the 4 - 6 AM kind. The rain and wind don't stop here till March so it will be mostly indoor running on the treadmill.

The GPS Spot gadget looks cool. Now if there was a way to combine it with my IPOD and Nike Plus system, I'd buy it.

Yay made it home throught the blizzard, though we had to stop overnight before we got home because visibility was down to about 5-10 feet, ice under snow and steep grades, etc.

I did my first run back at regular altitude 4500 feet. It was painful, 11 min slower than the 10k I did 2 days ago after the 36 mile bikeride and much more effort. The next week or 2 of workouts gona not be happy 8( while I readjust.

Man kids being nuts tonight in the background, I may have them shovel the road to town to work of some of their energy. Wife is grumpy too. Sigh.

I really don't mind the treadmill.  There is a lovely view out the windows at my gym.  That really helps.  (I listen to lots of music on my ipod that I can't play in Spinning class, too! )  I've been thinking about putting up bird feeders outside the windows at the gym.  It faces a beautiful (dripping wet) forest with lots of big leaf maple, blackberry bushes, redwoods, salal, etc, etc. and I think there would be some wonderful wildlife that would visit!   (I'm sure there are owls there, too!)

The fence is DONE!!!!  Yeah!!!!  The German Shepherd is not pleased!  We cut off part of her yard for a garden free of dog poo!  The labs really don't care.  The weather is still crap and we need to do some preventive fence maintenence over the next week.

I hope you had a fun rest day.  I've had fun with old clothes by holding a clothing swap.  I invite a bunch of girlfriends over with their old clothes and we swap clothes.  Anything that doesn't go gets put into a big bin for Goodwill.

Cheers to you!!!!

Treadmills are fun!  You can do all sorts of fun workouts on them!

You have a lot of responsibilities!  Make sure you keep your kids on the top of the list!  Carve out time for yourself when you can.  Cheers!

Us girls have a right to be grumpy when the weather is less than ideal and the kids have been cooped up in a van for two days!  As a matter of fact, you have a right to be grumpy, too!   Hee-hee!!!  Yeah.  Give the kids a shovel and let your wife have the house to herself.

Good job on your run!  I TOTALLY understand that elevation thing!  It just plain sucks!  Cheers to you and yours!

I swam 1800m this morning. It wasn't pretty. Hopefully my next swim will go better and feel better.

The new bike is ready to be picked up; I should get over for it by Thursday at the latest.

OK.  That was a lot of information.  Lets talk about long duration workout nutrition and race nutrition over the weekend.

What type of sports drinks, gels, bars, etc. has everyone tried?

I know I'm coming in kind of late on this one, but I was traveling over the weekend. Did a beautiful 12 mile snowy run in Spokane, WA yesterday, and now I'm settled in in Grand Coulee for a few days. I think we've been bringing the snow with us since there hasn't been any snow on the ground when we arrived in either place, but by the time we wake up the next morning there are several inches on the ground. We'll try to lose it before we get to Portland

Anyway, as far as sports nutrition goes, I really like the Clif Shot Recovery for after my runs. I also use Hammer Gel for longer workout. I like both Hammer Gel and Gu, but since Hammer Gel is a local company I tend to use it more. It took me a little while to get used to the texture of the gels, but now I really like them and they're great when you need more energy, but don't want anything heavy in your stomach. I also eat luna bars, Go Lean bars, and Clif bars on occasion between meals and while hiking. I like the taste of those bars the best and they have more natural ingredients than alot of the nutrition bars do, which is important to me.

Great training, everyone!

I attend a boot camp class about once a week, and have been logging it under "group power" in sports, for lack of a better way to log it. Sorry this isn't much help.

Hi Everyone!!!  The wedding is almost here so I'm going to be gone for a few weeks.  I talked to Nicole (MDHillSlug) about taking the reins while I'm busy.  I'll be leaving next Monday and back at the beginning of February.  I'll still get on BT as much as I can 'cause I'm supposed to start training for my HIM next Monday!  My internet access is going to be unpredictable, though.  I hope everyone had a good weekend!!  Cheers!!!
