I took out my very 1st road bike for the first time this week. It is a Cannondale CAAD 10 with aerobars. Tony was a big help for narrowing down my choices. I will post a pic soon: )

Happy Friday everyone!

fattyfatfat - 2011-05-28 1:11 PM ooooooooooooo!!!!!   a little snooping around and i see july 17th just got a little bigger.  now we have two first timers on the long course!   AWESOME!!!!

Ok, I admit I might be a little looped after attending a bridal shower for the first time in a very long time, but what are we talking about here? and when did Skinny decide to do Florida?  I could see trotting down there for some MG fun with zero race anxiety!

PS. Looped=sugar overload for me!

george, where are you!  mussleman.. LOL!!!!! that's like me racing a HIM called beer.

i decided to go  to florida after linda told me we could get drunk and go skinny dipping after the race. come on down!!!

HA!  I am not sure that is new news to everyone.  I posted earlier this month that I got in off the waiting list - had been registered for the sprint and was hoping to get into the HIM.  LOL - you were a little busy at the time.

I know Kim is racing a half the same day and she is not a newb to the distance - is there another first timer that day?

Yeah, let's see THE bike!!!

I love new bikes, I ended up following on of the owners of a local bike store yesterday morning, she was decked out from head to toe in new gear and riding a beautiful new Bianchi road bike, it hummed as she rode past...

I had a great relaxing 16k run this morning along the Noosa River, I listened to the Extra Mile Podcast - Galloway edition; made the 1hr 40mins pass quickly, made me think about whether Jeff Galloway's run-walk thing is used much by triathletes??? Seems like a great idea for IM/HIM runs.

Anyone use it?

Oh, yeah, that's right! You're 29, but hardly a new distance for you! Dino is doing his first 70.3 that day at Racine, with Suzy, who is a seasoned HIM vet.

2nd bike race of the week done.  I really liked this course, flattish with a couple sharp turns thrown in.  AVG speed 23mph.

pretty dull pace until the 2nd to last lap, teammate took off the front of the group and I sped up to the front and blocked, (meaning I went to the front of the group then slowed down a bit to help him get more space), 2 guys jumped around me, so going into the last lap I was in 4th place, guy on my team blew up and 2 guys took off and I tried to close the gap, which ended up putting me over the redline.

We got swallowed up with about 300M to go and I held on for 14th place.  Again hind-sight being 20-20 I should have just stayed with the group and would have probably finished much higher as I would have been able to sprint for the finish instead of having used up all my energy trying to get away.

Still a learning process, the guys that took off seemed like they were strong but turned out not to be.

Sounds like a George Hincapie type move. Block for the team. Good race Tony.

FINALLY moved in to our new apartment in Fond du Lac!  And I'm just as tired as if I had raced yesterday!  It was really hard for us to move though because we know we're going to have to move in another year anyway.  I wanted to leave everything packed up.

I tried not to carry stuff, but it made me feel too lazy, so of course, now my knee is sore.  But I went to the PT again Friday and I go twice this week, and he's awesome!  He said he wouldn't rule out letting me do some races towards the end of this summer, so I'm happy with that!

OK, just a quick update, and now I have to go make the in-laws breakfast! Happy Memorial Day weekend!

That is one of the MOST AWESOME things I have heard in a long time. LOVE IT!!!

When my kids were smaller (like 2-4 years old-ish?), they'd run around parks and say, "Look Mom!! I'm running a marathon!!" Made my heart smile for sure. Now my daughter says she wants to be a triathlete (among a thousand other things)... "But sometimes it looks like it's really really hard and I don't know if I can go that long." I have patiently explained that she does not need to do IMs to be a triathlete.

Happy Sunday to all!!

Oh... David... re: Galloway... I fully intend to Galloway my IM marathon. Last year my plan was to walk aid stations, which I sort-of did, after walking about 4 or 5 miles after having some tummy issues. This year my plan is definitely a run/walk time ratio as I am recovering from my injury (although depending on the timing I might just make it walk 1:00 at aid stations). I've been doing run/walk for longer runs since I've been building back up. For an HIM I'm sure it could work too! I always end up walking a few steps at aid stations because I'm not coordinated enough to run and drink at the same time if I want any liquid from a cup to go in my mouth.

Hi gang - back from the race.  Somehow I managed to win my AG even though I am way out of bike shape.  Boy am I tired but I have new motivation to get my butt on my bike and log some miles.

Fun day - well run race and the best part of the day was watching Drew do his race.  Improvement on the swim, strong bike and a good run although he needs a little work there.  Somehow he came across the finish line with a leaf in his hand.  Not sure where he got that from.  LOL  But he had fun and is looking forward to his next race.  We'll post some pics a bit later.

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

How did his nutrition strategy work out?

I believe the nutrition plan went well.  He ate his beans before the race and the sharkies on the run.  Although he had a slow run so maybe he spent more time eating than running.  LOL  He wanted to take the Sharkies w/ him on the bike and stuff them under his helmet.  Daddy vetoed that idea.
