I completed the 100K Mesquite Rodeo Bike ride yesterday with no problems - despite the wind and the heat towards the end.  My buddy who was riding with me said he was impressed with how much I had improved since Muenster 40mi ride back in April.  I still struggle with hills, but I think a weekly 45 min ride focused on hill repeats will pay off.  Overall,  I attribute much of my improvement to this group for the advice, the camaradie, and the accountability.  Thanks to all of you!  SWBKRUN MG Rules!

Way to go, Doug, Suzy, Sarah, and Andy!  Congrats to all.

Doug if you decide to do an HIM, consider the Augusta 70.3.  That is the one I am doing.  It too is late September.  I know a few people doing that one including Plainsman (Barry).  It would be fun for all of us to race together.

Congrats Doug, Suzy, Tony, Sarah, and Andy!  I'm looking forward to reading all the RR's.

I finished my 5k this morning - nothing too special.  Race report is up.  No PR, but I wasn't expecting one anyway.  This course is all hills and my right leg has been acting up this week, so I had planned to take it easy from the start.  I still came in 4th in my AG (missed 3rd by about 3 min).  It was a nice run - a little warm, but a nice park.  If I ever decide to start doing hill repeats, I know where to go!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
Janet

Congrats to all of the racers!

I am VERY ECSTATIC with my results today!!! 2:48 unofficial time!

I knocked 16 minutes off of my last Oly swim time  RR to follow once I get the official times.

Can you tell I'm still having that adrenaline rush???

Hey guys, congrats to all who raced!

quick question:

Today was my first open-water tri and, for some reason, I never really was able to get into a smooth rhythm.

Following the swim, my legs felt incredibly heavy on the bike, my heart rate was off the roof, and it never seemed to settle for some reason.  I felt weak on the bike and the results confirmed that.

What do you do to ease the transition, or get into a good rhythm, from swim to bike?  Or is it that some races you're 'on it' and some others you're not?  That's what it felt like.

Kim~  16 minutes off your olympic swim time is amazing!

Rob~  Congrats on the AG finish!  Plus improvement from last year.  Great job.

Janet~  Way to go on the 5K.

Izzy~  Congrats on completing your first tri!  Be careful, they are addictive.  Obviously without knowing your swim stroke it is hard to say this is the reason, but my first guess would be that you kick too much.  I never feel any fatigue in my legs after the swim (anymore).  Last year, I went into my first tri completely blind and with little training.  I had never even heard of "sighting".  So, I freaked out!  I swam the entire 1K swimming breaststroke.  Needless to say, once I got to the halfway point of the mtn bike portion my legs were toast.  Now, I have a very small kick and mainly use it for balance instead of propultion.  I'm a decent swimmer, but I'm sure what works for me doesn't work for everyone.

Looks like I am going to have to scrap the Hotter than Hell Century from my goals this year.  John, what can you tell me about the Katy Flatlands Century?  I may come down to do it.

Hi Izzy

I had this exact discussion with my coach before my race.  He said when you get on the bike you need to work to get your HR back into Z2 for 5-10' to allow for your body to digest calories on the bike and not blow up.  You can then ease it into Z3 and even Z4 if you are feeling good.  Prior to this discussion, I always hammered it as hard as I could, well into Z4 and beyond and then struggled on the run.

Suzy
