Member 2689 Denver, CO | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees 2015.3 CLOSED (or Poptarts? Pet pics?) Thanks, everybody, for the healing thoughts. I'm wondering if I do in fact have a mild concussion. I just looked up the symptoms on the Mayo Clinic website and have several. I can't watch TV without feeling nauseous, I get dizzy really easy, and I'm really tired all the time. I had a 3-hour choir rehearsal yesterday that about knocked me flat. I've never had a concussion, though, so I'm not really sure. In any case, I definitely made the right choice about the race next weekend. Maybe hitting my head knocked some sense into me? I just keep thinking about how much worse it could have been and the possibilities are pretty scary. |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees 2015.3 CLOSED (or Poptarts? Pet pics?) Mary, I hope you are feeling a bit better today. That certainly sounds concussion like, although if I trusted Dr. Internet with my health, I'd have been in a hospital long ago. Is it possible to get the doc on the phone and go through stuff with him/her? Take it easy and heal up. |

Hope you have some pics to share with us! Mary, sucks about your bumps/bruises/doc visit. Glad it's not a concussion, but really a bummer that it pushed you out of your race. Good choice...still Laura, figure out your click? Hope everyone else is having a good weekend. Just sent J off to Dallas for 4 days. Then he's in Orlando all next week. Sheesh.
Swim wasn't scrapped--times were: "Race directors have decided that all swim times of 2015 IRONMAN 70.3 Pula, Croatia will be voided. After the first swimmers entered the water, strong winds and currents caused two course marking buoys to break free from their mountings, guiding athletes off course. To ensure a fair race, all official race times will start at the swim exit. (sj)" Holy CRAP How strong do winds have to be to break buoys free!? I can guarantee you I would have scrapped the swim before the RD did! |

The way i once confirmed I had a concussion was to dive into a pool and have my brain explode out the top of my head! So, you could give that a whirl Concussions are no joke, so take it easy. I was told I wasn't even allowed to think for a couple of days. Surprisingly, that was quite easy for me! |

The constant bumping from the waves can work a knot loose. |

I'm not feeling much better this morning so I'm going to send my doctor a note and see what she thinks. I agree with your caution about self-diagnosis. I also had to laugh when I thought about my statement that watching TV makes me nauseated. I should probably have qualified that by noting that I was watching the UCI Worlds team time trials, not reality TV. |

Member 2098 Simsbury, Connecticut | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees 2015.3 CLOSED (or Poptarts? Pet pics?) ok so Yep, it's Tuesday. And today's all consuming thought is POWER METERS. There's a thread in the TT forum but I don't want to hijack. I'm thinking I'm paging Ben here but please anyone chime in. so first power meter and I think I'm down to two choices: Powertap pedals: pros: easy to swap between bikes, it's POWERTAP (proven performance), dual sided power, easy battery swap cons: expensive, coach doesn't like pedals because of the greater likely hood of damange in a crash etc, I ride speedplay pedals now although I've been thinking about trying another type without the free float power2max spider/cranks: pro: bang for the buck, keep pedals cons: estimated left leg power, can't swap bikes (different cranks/bbs) I also like Quarq and SRM but if I'm going crank I'd probably go for p2m for $$ any other input is welcome. I'm trying to hold out for the dcrainmaker annual review but I'm getting excited as I just met with my new coach and I want to get power installed. |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees 2015.3 CLOSED (or Poptarts? Pet pics?) Ran my first cross country meet of the season. The bar was pretty low since I was just coming off a break and didn't do any quality workouts leading in. Then, I had some major personal stress, was in a wedding the night before and woke up with a cold. Surprisingly, despite all that "stuff" I only wound up about a minute slower than last year. So, I'd say it's a really nice baseline.
I am chomping at the bit to get my butt in gear but now I've got a cold (surprise, surprise) likely from having too much on my plate. So, I am just going to take it easy (again) this week and try and really get going on things...well...when I can. I have the final race of the trail running series on Saturday, then a backcountry adventure I am doing with some friends on Sunday (basically a long, mountainous, beautiful loop.) Keep an eye on Instagram for some photos of this trip! I head to California at the end of next week for what I can only describe as Tour De Cali. A mix of road tripping, running (Yosemite and Mt. Whitney being two of the destinations) and finally working a few days at our office in LA. Anyway, that's my update. Phew. |

I have more piecemeal information about the various newer offerings as I hadn't looked into getting one of them for myself. The PowerTap hub is solid, hoping their other new works turn out to be so as well. Will have to see how easy the pedals will be on install. Garmin Vectors were tough for many. Think PT may do a better job there, but will have to see. Is the free float of the speedplay giving you issues? The float can be tightened up considerably if needed. Does P2max only estimate the one side? I had thought they were like Quarq. Stages is the one that measures left and doubles that to estimate total. It may be possible to swap bikes if the right adapters are available. I can do this between the threaded BB on the Ordu & road bike onto the press-fit of the SC9. They all have different BB's and adapters, but the same through hole to tighten on to. The swapping is fairly quick as the BB's all stay put. |

Member 2689 Denver, CO | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees 2015.3 CLOSED (or Poptarts? Pet pics?) Looks like I'll be laying low for a few days. Doc says I "possibly" have a mild concussion and to take it easy for a few days. I think I definitely do based on my feeling worse after trying to work as usual yesterday. I'm taking the day off work and trying to limit computer/smartphone time as much as possible. (See how successful I am?) My usual relaxation activity is reading, which is out because it makes my headache worse. My monkey brain is bouncing around like a ping ping ball in a bouncy castle full of 4 year olds! Sure hope this passes quickly. My body isn't happy with all the lounging around. My boss, who has played rugby for over 30 years said his treatment recommendation is to lie around and drink beer. The idea does have merit... :-) |
