RUN SAMMIE RUN!!!!! Now I know what I am doing wrong! I print out check lists, load equipment the night before and sign up months in advance. I need to get toasted, where whatever I can find and then show up to some random race with no plan. Then I can get a PR! What I want to know is how you got out the driveway with all those cars up on blocks out in front of your house with the abandoned refrigarators?! I had a good race today. Think I was 2nd in my AG. Run is improving, but the bike felt awesome! RR when they post the details. Congrats SAM! i hitchhike! congrats on the podium!!! |

Extreme Veteran 347 , Utah | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN fast, furious, and closed I spent the morning unloading my moving trailer. A bunch of guys from the neighborhood came and helped. All very nice. Got beds set up. And the washer, dryer and frig hooked up. Have a ton of boxes to un pack and organize. Looks like it's going to be a fun place to live. Just have a bunch of stuff to do. -Tiana |

As I posted in your logs, don't let your mind get in the way!! You have lots more long rides (and runs!) coming your way before your race. It's a long day come Ironman, but keep forward progress and a smile on your face and I'm sure you'll get 'er done!!! |

Training when I can in my free time and work has been getting in the way a bit too. And my wife finally decided she wanted to learn to run. So I am working on a program with her and she started week 3 today on a great trail up where we put our trailer for the summer. I am Still managing 480-530 mins a week of working out and bike volumes are getting much better. Completed a 100km Charity bike ride last Sunday. Which was AWESOME. Longest ride this season before that was 44km. The rain seems to have finally stopped and we have had 5 great days in a row here. So hopefully they stick around. Farmers are way behind and I am only TWO WEEKS AWAY FROM MY FIRST ever SPRINT... I feel ready to puke about it now...LOL Keep up the awesome work everyone. Sam you must be just geeked about your accomplishment. |

Master 2005 Silverton, Oregon | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN fast, furious, and closed Congrats on the 100k Chris! That's awesome! Sounds like your training is going great! John- Way to go on the PR! Doug- congratulations on the 2nd AG! Great job! Nice job on the biking mileage, Rachel!
As for the sock discussion- I don't wear them on bike or run up through HIM. And, like, Kyla it has more to do with comfort than transition times. I just like going sockless. My feet don't really sweat, so it is usually very comfortable for me. The only time I have had a problem with it was during Boise, with all the rain and water on the course my shoes were soaked and rubbed my heels raw. I do wear socks, and sometimes gators, for trail running to keep dirt and small rocks from causing me any trouble. |

Sam you must be just geeked about your accomplishment. I started triathlons this year and didn't really enjoy the first one due to poor pacing; my advice for the first sprint is pace yourself on the swim so you come out relaxed and ready to give the bike a good hammering, then just relax again on the run and pick up the pace according to how you feel. No need to puke! Edited by copa2251 2011-06-04 10:44 PM |

No need to puke! Hey Spanky!!!! Great advice from David, but I do know how you feel. I nearly passed out waiting to do my first super sprint. All that worry for nothing. Even though I had to float on my back for my 200 yard swim, I was totally fine in the end. I remind myself of that before every race. The fact is there will always be plenty of people who are faster than you and slower than you. Go out and just have fun! |

My first tri EVER is a sprint in 3 weeks and I just registered for two more races this summer. A Long Sprint in Aug. and an Oly in Sept. I think I'm going to puke just thinking about it. Seemed to make sense to try some different distances and keep pushing myself to see what I can do. Either that, or I'm totally NUTS. Could be both. Sam, congrats. on your accomplishment!! You are AMAZING! |

LOL I was a total mess of a stress case before my first sprint. I spent hours online reading race reports, researching first-time jitters, etc. Granted, I'm sort-of a stress case anyway, but still. I'm happy to say the nerves have calmed down over the years. My biggest friends in triathlon prep are my two checklists: One packing list, and one transition setup list. It calms my OCD to be able to check off all of the boxes. I think I love that about triathlon -- so many little things to remember, ack! But yay!! Look at all the little things to remember!! Oh yeah, and then there is the minor detail of actually doing the sbr. Well, once you've started, you're out there and it's your day. One step at a time, always make forward progress, and get yourself to the end. Faster is better, of course! Ha!! |

I will have a checklist and the first thing on my list will be, relax and breath! LOL Here's a question for you and the others here on the mg. I've been averaging around 15-16 mph on my training rides. What average should I push for on my sprint and still have some legs left for the run? Or, should I just see how I feel and go? I don't have a HRM, but I feel pretty good at being able to pace myself on the bike and run. Edited by jfought 2011-06-05 10:34 AM |
