Swim
Comments: Solid swim for me. Pushed a bit but never uncomfortable. Pleased that I sighted more consistently than in typical swims. I'll put this one between average and good. Transition 1
Comments: Solid transition. Put bike shoes on in T1 since there is a steep hill right out of transition Bike
Comments: After about 2 miles of the bike I was all alone since there were not that many people starting in front of me on the swim. One of my teammates, a really strong cyclist, passed me at about the 6 mile mark. I decided I would neeed to stay 400-600 yards behind him on the bike if I was going to catch him on the run. This was good in that it kept me focused on my effort with no other racers around. Bad in that I may have pushed a bit too hard on the bike. AP245/NP249 What would you do differently?: Strange but my bike split was slower this year with 4-5 higher watts. Looks like times were a bit slower across the board on the bike as compared to 2012. Maybe the heat/humidity. Weather was perfect in 2012 Transition 2
Comments: Didn't get out of my shoes on the bike due to steep hill into T2. Solid T2. Grabbed visor and race belt and put them on on the way out Run
Comments: I can't remember feeling so absoulutely whipped on a run. I was 1:30 slower than 2012. Totally shot at the finish. The run was 3.1 miles of total suck. Looking at the results of guys I race with/against a good bit it seems most run times were 1:15-2:00 min slower this year. Again...heat and humidity?? What would you do differently?: Don't know if I pushed too hard on the bike or just got crushed by the run. Either way the run had me in a dark place. Post race
Warm down: Sat and stewed in my own juices for a few minutes. Wife and son said I looked pale. Got a massage. Visited with friends and teammates. Always a great after race setting/party. Waited around for awards. Teammate got grandmasters win so I bumped up to first in AG for award purposes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Wreck the week before the race?? Heat, humidity, lack of mental toughness, being old.......so many ways to rationalize it. Overall in looking at the results I did fine. Just didn't feel like it during the race. Event comments: Hard to beat a well run race that is so close to home where you get to race with your friends and team. Great day for the Gulf Coast Tri Team with lots of hardware! Wasn't sure I would be able to race after my bike crash a week before the race. Felt really bad for a couple of days before starting to come around on Wed. before the race.
This is our local race and only 2 miles from the house. Left about 5:20am to get a good parking spot. Race numbers were by seeded swim time so I was racked near a bunch of teammates which was fun
It was a warm morning and I was sweating while setting up transition. Ran about a mile and did some strides then a short swim. Couple of quick showers moved throguh which made the humidity even worse.
