I'm not in the Cities, but just got a call from my mom. Nearly everyone I know crosses this bridge at least once a day. As far as we know right now, no one we know was immediately involved in this disaster. I hope the same goes for all of you.

Holy cow... I am travelling to the east coast on business, flipped on the TV after a long day, and see my hometown on "live - breaking news".

I hope everyone back home is safe and sound.

It's horrible.  I listened to the radio news on the way to and from my OWS, taking lots of cell calls from friends along the way.  I hope everyone is safe and accounted for.

Saw this pop up on the news on the TV while running at the gym tonight.  Yikes!

Hope all of our BT ( and extended BT family ) members in the area are ok.  First thing I thought of was who I knew from BT that lived in Minneapolis and hoping they were ok.

Hey gang...

My sister's father-in-law is one lucky SOB! He exited onto University from 35W 5 seconds before the bridge collapsed. The only reason he sped up...the tremors and terrible shaking in his car. He thought he was having tranny troubles and wanted to get off the bridge so he didn't cause a traffic jam! my sister is a member on BT, but I don't know her screen name, sorry.

My prayers go out to anyone who may be affected by this tragedy.

A quick shout-out to all our MN Bters.  Just give us quick check in to make sure we're all O.K....

I turned down free tickets to last nights game. If I would have taken them I probably would have been going over the bridge about that time to get to the game. I hope everyone is safe. The guy who offered me the tickets was already at the game. I talked to him this morning.

Here's hoping that everyone's families and friends are ok, and so sad for those who have been hurt/killed in this tragedy.

All my extended family is accounted for, I think. You try to say to yourself "what are the chances, really," but you just don't feel right until you've talked to everyone and made sure they're ok.

The MNDiver clan is accounted for (Bryan, Kelly, Aly & Nik). The kids and I took my mom to the Twins game last night, we were on the plaza when scores of emergency vehicles were screaming out of downtown. We saw the rescue boats go out and knew something bad had happened.... but never imagined something this horrific.

My inner circle is all accounted for, thankfully.

We were in Seattle for the 6.8 earthquake in 2001. I experienced it (first and only one) and didn't react as strongly as I have to this tragedy. Wow.

Take care, all.

I've been amazed at how many stories there have been of cars landing on top of each other, then everyone walks away with cuts and bruises. Simply incredible that the casualty count is as low as it has been (so far).

We rarely make it farther north than the Washington exit by the U anymore. Glad to hear so far all the peeps from the Cities are okay.

All in my extended family are accounted for.

I go over that bridge every AM during my morning commute but have avoided the area in the PM due to congestion during construction. Sad, sad stuff.

I'm *SO* glad to hear everyone is OK. Now for a strange question. I live about 80 miles from the cities. Is it possible that I could have heard a rumble when the bridge went down? I was kind of napping on the couch and thought I heard thunder a little after 6pm. Hoping it was thunder, I jumped up and looked out the window. Not a cloud in sight. Very strange. Could I have heard the bridge?

I don't think that's possible Pattie, my guess is that it was heard from a mile or so away at most. However, depending on where you are in Dodge county you may have heard my stomache rumble since I was in your county about that time riding last night

Here is a link to video of the bridge collapsing. Some damn scary stuff.

Joe- I didn't think it was possible, but was just wondering. Must have been your stomach. Remember, when riding in Dodge Co, bring food. Not many options for purchase.

I just watched the video on CNN. Wow. I heard some of the survivors' stories on the radio this morning and I'm just amazed. People climbing out of thier cars and swimming to the shore. Truly amazing.

We are all fine in my family - we live near Franklin Avenue and the River Road, so very close. We heard sirens going well into the night. It's just terrible, and all of us Minneapolitans will be affected for a long time.

I didn't hear or feel any rumbling, though; and I'm not more than 3 miles away.

My family, friends, and I are alright.

For those of you out of the area, the national news coverage is garbage. Don't pay attention to that garbage (especially CNN and Fox News). If you want better coverage, go to mpr.org or startribune.com

As tragic as this all is, I'm amazed the the final death toll could end up being 13 (I'm hearing 5 confirmed plus 8 presumed from both the Star Trib and PioneerPress). If that holds, this is actually a miracle of sorts. To have a major bridge come down on a major artery during peak time and get out of it with 13 fatalities.... speaks highly to our first responders and ordinary citizens who pitched in during those first few minutes. There were 60 people on that one school bus alone.

Still, I feel terrible for those who lost loved ones or will be scarred by this. If your loved one is 1 of the 13, then your life will never be the same and my thoughts are with you.
