In high School I ran track and was more of a sprinter to mid distance, I thought a mile was crazy. here are my times from 22 years ago:

200- 23.6
400- 50.9
800- 2:08 ran one time told coach never again to hard
1 mile never ran it wide open had a 5:02 split in a duathlon.

5k- 1994 16:52
quit running in 1999 started agian in 2005 haven't broke 19 since 1998, but since 2005
5k-20:18
1/2 mary 1:38

I'm working on nothing but speed in 2008 we will have to see how I bounce back.

OK, good to know I'm not the only one remembering the good ol' track days.  Brace-face knobby-kneed 6:14 mile in 1993 was one of my PRs I'm still working on beating - am planning to hit the track sometime this fall and try it out, at least to break 7 for the first time in a decade..

Also going back several decades to HS XC and track...

Mile: 5:00 (give or take a few seconds)

5K (XC): 17:30 (on a new pair of Nike, lime green, XC green spikes!. I think my peeps coined the phrase "gotta be the shoes" well before Spike Lee and MJ...

Now more contemporary (and 40-50 more lbs. than HS)...

Marathon: 4:20 (first and only)

Half: 1:59 and change

I echo several posts ago about regaining the HS speed.  Discussed that very same topic today during a group ride....

Mile 5:20

5k x-country 20:05

My goal this winter is to PR a 5k (sub 22)and 10k (sub 45). We'll see.....

I have never been able to get my mile under 7 min 30 sec, that was when I was a teen. . . then I didn't run for about 5 years. Currently I have just gotten my mile to under 9 minutes. And am so excited about it!

Ran track and XC in HS.  Fastest time for XC was around a 16:30 or so.  I qualified for the Footlocker Regionals, so whatever that was at the time (it was mid to low 16's).

I hated track.  My fastest 1600 was around 5:15-20 or so, and my fastest 3200 was around a 10:30.  I much preferred XC.

More recently, I have a 19:55 5k, 33:09 5mi, 1:08:45 10mi, and a 3:22:04 marathon.

High school

800m - 1:59
Mile - 4:50
5K - 17:35
15K - 59:20

Now
5k - 21:55
10K - 46:10
15K - 70:00
1/2 Mary - 1:46:10

Yeah i'm never going to see that 5K time again. And i'd have to say that i don't want to, cause that speed really hurts. I'd rather run a little slower and enjoy myself lol!!

Currently admist my cross country season (junior in HS) and my best time is a 25ish. I am actually a middle distance guy for track and did cross country to help with my tri training.

In 9th grade I ran my fasest 400 in 52.0, but since then the coaches have converted me to an 800 runner which is not a fun race. My best time came last year 2:03 (district qualifying!).

Some of you guys have really impressive times!

Your 400/800 times are damn good, yourself...esp. the 400 time as a freshman, but the 2:03 half as a soph as well...wow! (Gets me all nostalgic to see someone going down the same path I was on at your age...800 and sometimes 400 specialist slogging through XC in the fall to stay in shape for track...)

Remember though we are talking about my extreme bests here. I ran the 52.0 and 2:03 at the peak of my season (usually the end). I'm way too inconsistent.

5K: 21:35 (2007)
10K: 50:28 (2006)
15K: 1:26:48 (2007)

I'm shooting for a new personal best for the 10K this year. I think I can do it in under an 8:00 pace.
