Okay, whatever you do, DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

Just like the viagra commercials: "If you have an erection lasting longer than 4 hours"... If you have numbness, ESPECIALLY longer than 4 hours, let alone TWENTY-FOUR, go see a freaking doctor.

That S*^t is messed up.

Padding, fit, saddle height, cleat position, I don't care. Just take care of your junk.

rc63413 - 2009-04-06 11:36 AM Last year at Steelhead I wound up getting my winky wrapped tied up in my drawstring.  I was so excited about the race that I didn't realize it until things went numb about 25 miles into it.  Thank god I figured it out or it could have been really bad had I gone to the end.  Seriously!  I'll try not to let that happen again.  Hope things get better, I imagine you will get used to your seat and position on the bike so that doesn't continue to happen for yo.

I don't think I've ever been *that* excited about a race.

The numbness isn't that bad.

It's getting it caught in the chain that hurts like hell.

After my first long ride of sixty something miles I was numb for a few days.  It caused quite the situation at the home and I contemplated this whole riding a bike thing.  I moved my seat a little forward and tilted the nose a bit and things improved greatly.  I can ride that length now without having the numbness.  I also make a point to get out of my saddle and not just sit there pedaling away for hours.  As others have said, consider your bike fit and saddle specifically.

To the OP,
Serioulsy, check with your doc, or call the number on your insurance card and see a nurse.

To Silver_Wlf-The "gear" in question is quite flexible. It can be moved and only hangs down where you are imagining it when men are standing. When you sit, anywhere, it is more towards the front.
The bike shorts help hold it there.
Of course, due to motion, liquid, excitement about races, etc, adjustments are often necessary.

I had the same problem with the Trek seat as well. Went to my LBS and got fitted and replaced the seat as well. The guys at the LBs told me this could cause soft tissue damage so I had to go back about 4x to get the fitting right.

I'll throw my 0.02 in, even though it's pretty much against what everyone else is saying...

I think it has to do with the level of numbness before I run to the Doctor or not.  I don't think that if you lost some sensation for a day, you need to race over to the doctor as if it's going to fall off.  If you can't feel ANYTHING, then by all means, GO.

However, My junk was a numb after my IM (or I should say, lost some feeling).  That was the longest ride I had ever done and the next morning, I realized I had lost some sensativity.  It was like that for the next couple of days, but I also noticed improvement.  I will also say that it took about 2-3 weeks before it felt completely normal again.

On a subsequent visit to my doctor, I discussed it, and they said I had probably done some damage, and it took time to heal, but no long term damage was done.

That being said, I adjusted my saddle which solved the problem...

What concerns my about the OP, is that it was a 30 minute ride.  30 minutes in the saddle should NOT do that much damage, IMO.  Also, I would NOT ride again without making changes...  In my case, I did the damage, healed and made adjustments to the bike befor riding again.  I would not keep injuring it if at all possible.

You think that we get out of our seats on climbs to go faster???

If my junk were numb for more than an hour after a ride I would have logged a call to my doctor, at the very least.

newbz - 2009-04-06 1:30 PM maybe i am being the stupid one here, but wtf are you doing sitting at your computer on an online forum with your junk number 24 HOURS after it happened? i would have been in to see a doc WAY before that point.........

Don't worry about it.  A few more days, it should just fall off by itself.

I almost spit my drink at the screen on that one!

You'll be fine.  Sensation will return, just adjust your saddle, probably need to drop the nose a little, might want to shop for a new saddle.  If you're still numb in two months, go see a doc then.

OK in case no one noticed, the OP was in April of 2009.

If it is still numb, there is a huge problem.  It will never get better.  Good news, you do not have to worry about where it goes when you ride.
