Pre-race routine:

Event warmup:

Stand in porta john line. No warmup at all.

Comments:

First mile in 5:45, then next couple of miles were right at 6:20. Wasn't feeling great, so let the group I was running with get ahead of me a little and ran a couple of 6:30s. Still wasn't feelin' the luv, so after 5-6 miles I decided I wasn't going to spend any mental energy to try to maintain a fast pace so I shut it down and coasted in to the finish. Seemed like some of the mile markers on the return leg were way off, so not sure what kind of pace I had the last 5 miles but it was pretty slow. Steady stream of occasional singles and doubles were passing me the last 2 miles but I didn't really mind too much.
What would you do differently?:

Not get "fat" during the holiday season :)
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed my dry clothes, changed, and headed home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

About 12 lbs of Holiday food around my waist :) Way too early in the year to think about going fast.

Event comments:

Fun race, well organized. I need to get skinny.

Good to see you out there Jim.  I just love getting the racing season started.  I have a feeling this will be your year for the KQ.  Why blow it on going balls to the wall during a January half marathon.  Great job anyway, most of us would kill or at least maim in order to have times like those.

Still a real solid time for this early in the year.Smart move backing it off if you weren't feeling it.  no need to push it and risk injury this early.

Congrats on the AG top 10!  Sounds like it was a fast field.

Good to meet you Jim.  Heh, if I COULD run a 5:45 on my 1st mile out, I would've had to walk back to the start and call it quits!

Yes.  Mile markers 11 and 12 were off.  My 11 mile split was 7:28, so I actually walked because I thought I was pushing too hard...

Great to meet you.  I'll see you at Liberty...
