Pre-race routine:

Got up. Had coffee. Left hotel around 8:15 for the 9AM start.
Event warmup:

Weds19 and I arrived at NC State just before 8:30 to meet dck4shrt. We jogged a little bit while waiting and then met up with dck and some of his friends. basically just stood there chatting/stretching for about 20-30min before he race started.

Comments:

Out:
Ran with brad and we settled into a comfortable pace but at effort (well effort for me...not sure for him). The course gmap'd a bit longer than 2mi, but I wasn't concerned about the running since (a) I haven't been running...so no worries about the time, and (b) it was the eating that would be the challenge.

Eat:
So we cruise into KK at the relative front of the 3000 racers. We run around the building and grab our box of donuts and some water.

Donuts 1-3...this is a good breakfast
Donuts 4-6...still not bad, but gettin' kinda full
Donuts 7-9...this turned from fun to hell quite quickly
Donuts 10-12...every f'in bite hurt, but since i made it this far, there is no sense turning back.

First 6 donuts...~7min
Last 56...~23min

I couldn't get enough water to go with the donuts. You really had to fight your way to get water as they only had one water table set out out front. Brad and I took turns grabbing waters...I htink I drank somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-36oz in that 30min period.

Was really fighting the gag reflex over the last 3 donuts.

Back:
We show our empty donut box to a volunteer, get our bib marked and are on our way. I get no more than a couple tenths into the run and I puke in stride...mostly water. Running on the full stomach of donuts wasn't all that bad. I mean it wasn't fun, but it really didn't have that huge an impact over the course of ~2mi.
What would you do differently?:

Train with cabbage, ala Kobayashi - http://espn.go.com/page2/s/caple/020703.html
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to car. Went to motel. Went to bathroom. Lied on bed for a bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Train for the mass eating

Event comments:

A fun race....truly a once in a lifetime event for me.

Great RR!!  Several people in my tri club talked abot doing this race...but we never got around to signing up.  Do you think you'll want any KK in the near future??

Excellent RR.  The last few donuts were an epic struggle for many.

Way to gut it out and finish all of those donuts
You are going to have to pick a new race-day treat for 2008 -- sounds like this race may have ruined the glamour of eating a donut afterward.

Glad you and Brad had a good time.
