Guys and gals.

Don't want to get into the debate.....

What are your favorite motivational songs for running & biking when you need that extra umph to make it the next mile or 5.

This is a serious question as I want to put a good selection of them on my MP3 to call up when needed.  Currently, I have Rocky I music album.  I also have another one that is used in the one of the IM promos.

Hey Girl, Hey Boy - The Chemical Brothers

Lose Yourself - Eminem

Pure Morning - Placebo

Starry Eyed Surprise - Paul Oakenfold

Mr Rock and Roll - Amy MacDonald

Another one I thought would be good would be the theme tune to Season 1 of The Unit. It's a USMC running cadence set to a rocky track. It was only a few seconds long and they never released it. They've replaced it now, more's the pity.

My personal favorite is "I Like Beer" by Tom T. Hall. Not very motivating but it reminds me what's at the end of the race/workout.

Obviously, music tastes are highly variable. I would make an entirely different "get fired up" mix for my mother versus my wife (who somehow gets fired up to the most whiny music I have ever heard), and an entirely different one yet for my younger brother in college.

In any event, at the moment here's a few songs that start my current running playlist. I tend to gravitate towards songs that keep my footstrike pace at.....just.....the......right......speed.

Hey Man Nice Shot -- Filter
Top Back -- TI
Coming Undone -- Korn
Cult of Personality -- Living Colour
Low -- Flo' Rida
Crazy B!tch -- Buckcherry

I can add more if this is your sort of thing.

This song got me thru many long century rides last summer.   This is a great tri-song!

St Elmos Fire Lyrics

Growin' up
You don't see the writin' on the wall
Passin' by
Movin' straight ahead you knew it all
But maybe sometime if you feel the pain
You'll find you're all alone
Everything has changed

Play the game
You know you can't quit until it's won
Soldier on
Only you can do what must be done

You know in some way
You're a lot like me
You're just a prisoner
And you're tryin' to break free

CHORUS:

I can see a new horizon
Underneath the blazin' sky
I'll be where the eagle's
Flyin' higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion
All I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin'
St. Elmo's Fire

Burnin' up
Don't know just how far that I can go
(Just how far I go)
Soon be home
Only just a few miles down the road
I can make it
I know I can
You broke the boy in me
But you won't break the man

I can climb the highest mountain
Cross the wildest sea
I can feel St. Elmo's Fire burnin' in me
Burnin' in me

Just once in his life
A man has his time
And my time is now
And I'm comin' alive

I can hear the music playin'
I can see the banners fly
Feel like you're back again
And hope ridin' high
Gonna be your man in motion
All I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin'
St. Elmo's Fire

I can climb the highest mountain
Cross the wildest sea

I can feel St. Elmo's Fire burnin' in me

Burnin'
Burnin' in me
I can feel it burnin'
Oooh, burnin' inside of me

Just found out recently on a long drive to a race with my dad that his motivational music is Chariots of Fire,   he pulled out a tape (yep no new fandangled cd players for my dad )  and out blares chariots and fire and he's right it really is quite motivational!

for me my favs are just strong powerful stuff  like Audioslave, tool, Michael Franti,

and then softer stuff that seems to work is John butler, Xavier Rudd,

and my fav song is Fisherman's daughter by the Waifs,

Base work.....I watch movies on the computer to pass the time...

Working hard...Distsurbed- down with the sickness
GNR- multiple songs
(old) Metallica

Working my butt off....no music---I just keep a constant vision of a good friend who got me into cycling 7 years ago, lying in a hospital bed enduring pain beyond imagination from surgery complications leading to soft tissue and bone infection....then needing more surgery (fusion of entire cervical spine)...and his 6 month recovery and life changing complications.....when I think I am suffering, I realize any "pain" I am feeling pales in comparison....and I push harder
