Pre-race routine:

Wake up, play with baby, go to race, race.
Event warmup:

Did a little high-stepping from the parking lot to the starting line, but that's about it.

Comments:

Temperature was cold: -25 with the wind chill. Again, "Skating Rink". I couldn't get over how slippery it was, and that definitely brought the pace down. It was incredible how much faster I would go when I hit a patch of dry pavement. You don't even realize how much more carefully you're going. Didn't feel the cold after the first k or so, and after 5 I was downright warm.
Also, the race was supposed to start at 10:15, and people took off at 10:00 instead. I came up at about 5 after and mostly everyone was gone. Got to play catch-up the rest of the race. The good part was that I didn't get passed even once for the entire race, but managed to pass quite a few people.
What would you do differently?:

I ran the 1st Kilometre with a friend of mine who was running *really* slowly before I decided to heck with the ice and bolted. I probably should just run at my own pace.
Post race
Warm down:

Light stretching, walking. A cup of free Timmy's and a Timbit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I should probably invest in a pair of ice-grippers for my shoes.

Event comments:

Had fun doing it and will no doubt be back again next year. Plus, I raised $115.00 for the salvation army for the less fortunate at Christmas. Nice! Ended up getting a shirt out of the deal, too.

WOO HOO, WAY TO SHUFFLE!

Literally, it sounds like.  We had some ice as well, but it wasn't -25!!!!

Free Timmy's??? Not here...I'm jealous.  We had excellent prizes, though...holy cow!  I guess the sponsors can write off their donations to the Salvation Army, so there were a ton.

Way to go my friend! As I've said before, I don't think I could run in those conditions. You da man!

Now go get yourself some ice grippers before you hurt yourself!

Great Job!
I did the race here in Victoria - no snow, light rain about 5C. We didn't have Timmy's but hot chocolate was provided. The prizes were really good and I received a pedicure gift certificate and my hubby received a $20 gift certificate from a local restaurant. It was tons of fun! I have no idea what my time was because my watch battery died and they did not time the race. It's nice to run without a clock - no pressure, pure fun.
