We just drove the course. Oh boy!

So now what do you think of PNF's statement on the VS broadcast that the course is "spectacular and awe inspiring"?

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! The last 4 miles until the turn, out by where I live is beautiful mountains and desert, the rest is CRAPTACULAR Indian reservation, gravel quarries and abandoned drive ins!!!

was it you that said they had thought about making it 1 or maybe 2 loops and extending it out your way, which would have made for a pretty hard course....

anyone else feel like they've got electricity running thru their nerves. I'm sitting at my desk going freaking NUTS.

Yes, the original plan was a 2 loop course that would come through my town.

I don't think it's all that ugly.  It IS rather pretty actually.  Do some biking in west TX sometime and then you'll think this is paradise...

livestrong - 2008-11-19 3:36 PM Glad you made it! I think I read that you were staying with friends, but if you're not and need a grocery store, Basha's and Fry's are on E Southern just a few miles from the race start. We just drove the course. Oh boy!

Nope, did the VRBO thing again.  I'm about a mile from the site....

Yeah, I guess it is all relative.

I love the desert, pumpkinman in lake mead was gorgeous.  as bryan said, closer to the beeline t'around it gets much nicer.  I could just do without the dumps and abandoned bldgs.

Thanks for the replies about swim-bike transition...looks like the distance is not that far and padded to boot! My metatarsals will be happy!

Cheers, Keith

hey, just catching up on 3 pages of posts since yesterday! we spent the day in Sedona, it is beautiful. Climed around Bell Tower, climed as high as we could and then built our IM rock piles up in the Vortex of Bell Tower for some good karma. So, if anyone is hiking there, and goes up Bell Tower, and if you happen to come across a rock pile that resembiles MDOT, well, you are not seeing things-that is my good mojo rock piles (just like Kona!)
Awesome. Hope to see you at the swim at 8 am.....I have a red mDot tatoo on my right calf, brown, curly hair...see ya'll!

Hey I ran up to and on Bell Rock on Sunday! :-)
Ran from Little Horse Trail Parking lot to Bell Rock.  Couldn't find much of a way up though, and wasn't willing to risk much this close to the race.

We arrived yesterday.  Slight delay in Seattle, but otherwise was a good trip.  My boys "survived" on a couple of DVD's, Nintendo an other various electronic stimuli.  Slept solid 9 hours last night. (Must have been a bit tired from travel day).

We are off later this am to go down to the expo area and then drive/ ride the course.  The weather looks great!

ok, open water swim this morning in long sleeve wet suit....it totally took my breath away. I have never been in water that cold. The first 100 yards or so, my chest was constricted and I was really having trouble breathing properly. did a few breast stokes and got better then swam regular. Just swam about 22 minutes this morning. Will swim again in the am. I am so glad that I have that long sleeve wet suit. I cannot imagine doing it sleeveless!!!!
It all real now. We have our numbers our bikes are here safe and sound, all our stuff laid out...spent a ton of money in the store on IM stuff. I don't want to chance stuff being gone on Monday. I figure the fleece jacket that I bought, I can spend $6 and have someone back home do embordered Finisher on it under the logo.
If there were any BT'er at the ows this am, sorry I did not find any of you!
BA

oh, just a little insight. As I was standing in line to get my packet, and gave them my number, in my head I was hearing the tv special where the narrator talks about how now you are a num ber....and I was hearing, "number 2578, you are here...."and got all teary eyed....I am such a sap!

Thanks for the swim update.  We just landed and are in the hotel.  Can't decide if I will swim on Friday AM or not....Will for sure on Saturday.    After 2.4 miles in a full sleeve wetsuit you will be glad the water is cool.

Weather still looks good, looks like some breezy conditions on Friday - GOOD, get the wind outa here.

61 degrees in the water. I swam 1000m today and the water was really nice after the first couple hundred meters. I swam in a sleeveless wetsuit.

Welcome to Tempe, Keith.

There is a large financial building across the street from the race start with thousands of parking spots in the parking garage.  You can park there for $8.  Once you leave the parking garage, it is $8 to park there again, even though it says, "All day parking - $8".  On race day, these spots are $5 for all day parking.  Not a bad deal at all to be that close to where the athletes will be passing all day.

I hope that helps.

 Chris

on Ash and Third,,,, (I think) is large public parking  lot, parking there is free.  There were lots of spaces Th, probably less so Friday but if you go later after the swim there should be something.  It's just south of the finish chute by about two blocks

In April on race day we parked at the US Airways bldg for free.   It's the one that says "No Athlete Parking" today

That's awfully humorous considering WHO ELSE BUT ATHLETES WOULD WANT TO PARK TODAY!

I could see DURING the race...you'd get spectators taking close spots.  But seriously?  No spectators are here yet!  It's the athletes that need to park!

This is why I biked to the site yesterday....WAY easier!

US Airways employees.

Surely there is enough parking for everyone.
