Subject: Beer Mile?
Do these "officially" exist? I've seen a few online, but most of them seem like something a group of friends put on. (No registration process, ect.) And I've certainly not heard of any near where I live (Myrtle Beach, SC). Doesn't have to be a mile either. Any event with beer and running is right for me.

Depends on what you mean by officially......most get them organized without telling when exactly and where and when the time comes sends out the email notice or phone notice for folks to come to a certain place with a DDriver and that way there are no uninvited guest and no trouble. Here is a link that list alot of them.  http://www.beermile.com/

Hashing isn't a race though.  it is a social group that just happens to run and drink beer while chasing some other people.  Its a ton of fun, but there is no racing involved.

Last time I looked at that site with the records I believe that someone had a record of like a 5 min mile.....can you imagine you have to stop each quarter mile and chug the beer and then run again....5 min? wow.....I cant do that without drinking let alone 4 beers.  Need a beer bong to get them down that fast!

San Diego has both a beer mile and a beer 2 mile. They don't have standard registration processes or anything like that, but they usually get a couple big names.

Sure are but not advertised alot.  I did one in Dec 06 (8:53) and want to do it again.  I know Austin, TX has one planned every month.  I honestly don't know how someone did 5:20 though.  I did see I video I believe and it was crazy.

My wife and some friends did the James Page Blubber Run a few years ago. I don't know anything about it aside from that there was beer periodically.

I did a 5:30 in college, 20 years ago with Schmidt largemouth bottles but we drank the beer after each lap & not before. This probably saved a bunch of time.

The beermile website has you drinking before each lap out of standard can. I don't have a desire at 42 to try it by the website rules.

A couple of guys could go under 5 minutes wth the beer after the lap method.
R De H out of South Dakota was reported to be able to do one in 4:45. This is unconfirmed but probably true.

I would like to do some more beer-rienteering events but probably won't do another beer mile.

I've seen it! hilarious!

Although it wasn't an official race. In honor of the official race three of my buddies decided to race their own.  All were athletic and known for drinking.  The one who could usually outdrink anybody bailed out... to the bushes after a half mile.  Another barely made it to the end.. and walked straight towards a garbage can.  The winner still owns bragging rights to this day... and will NEVER do it again.

I did around 8:30 drinking a beer before each lap. I almost lost it right before the last lap but was able to hang on!! I do want to try it again. You learn a couple of things.

Dude, you would be really surprised how hard it is to run with a stomach full of beer sloaching around and not being able to puke.  Remember if you puke you have to run a penalty lap (no beer this time).  The secret if you ever try is to burp alot the first 50 to 100 mtrs and then take it slow the last 50.  It is hard to chuck a beer when you can't breath from sprinting a quarter mile.

I read somewhere Iowa State University does a doughnut run to where you get time knocked off your 5k run for the amount of doughnuts you eat at each aide stations...but you cant run with them...have to stop and eat them.  1 min per donut

Yeah, I'm right there with you.  None of my friends really run so that makes it easy.  But tell you what running with 48oz of beer in your tummy sucks bad.  You are smokin' fast though and it definately helps.
