ultrahip_00 - 2008-04-04 2:50 PM I have seen many creative usernames on here -- what is the story/reasoning behind them? mine was an e-mail address i had when i was in middle school. . i don't know exactly how i came up with it back then. .
You had and e-mail address in middle school?! Damn I'm old.

x 2 That Al Gore guy who claims to invented this internet thingy became VP when I was a junior in High School. I use to still think I was sort of young til I hear comments like that.

wurkit_gurl - 2008-04-04 1:05 PM I went to theatre school, where everyone is fierce with a capital F, a la Christian from Project Runway, and when someone had a good performance, etc, it was common to say "you better WORK it, guurrrl"

What's up with the fierce thing in that industry?  When I'm out with dancers, it's always "he's fierce", "she's fierce" that dance "fierce" fierce, fierce, fierce.  I was ready to pull my ears off as my SO laughed at me.

ANYWAY - mine is kind of obvious.  One of my other passions.  After years of MA training in karate, mui tai, Jiu jitsu, aikdio...  I picked the more "gentle" of the styles (Aikido) and used that.

That's what I first thought of when I saw your screen name.  I was curious if that's how you meant it.  VERY cool.

"an e-mail address i had when i was in middle school. ."

Middle school? You must be pretty young. I didn't have an email address until I was well out of college.

Anyway, my handle comes from my first email address as well. "brider" is Bike RIDER. Since Brian Rider had that handle already taken on this board, I added my initials (which is also my yahoo email address) => briderdt.

After an early retirement as chief of neurosurgery, I began a decade of millionaire adventuring. I would solo to the summit of K2 on the anniversary of my wife winning her Nobel prize in literature, and on one of my more memorable descents I suffered a fall which left my arm wedged in a crevice. I spent two days and nights alone with my thoughts, reflecting on my days as a spy behind the Iron Curtain, wishing I had patented the space shuttle's Canadarm that I had built and donated to NASA, and thinking fondly of my loving family, busy replanting the rainforests of South America, and I knew I had to see them once more. I had to cut off my arm with a frozen Powerbar to free myself and finish my descent. Once safely home, it became apparent that I would once again have to return to neurosurgery in order to reattach my own severed limb, and despite a near perfect marathon session in the operating theatre, I succumbed to an eye infection in the early post operative period, thus resulting in a nasty sty.

Maybe I need to get my user name changed?

Dieu Et Mon Droit - French for:  "God and My Right".  Numerous historical references.  My gt-gt-grandfather (Naval Officer - Confederate States Navy), had it printed on a deck of cards while in Liverpool, England, in the 1860's in middle of the US Civil War.

P.S. Before anyone informs me who won the war, or who was the good guys, I know.  I  have been raised in Ohio, am a Veteran of the US Army and US Special Forces, and am a patriot of these 50 United States.

P.S.S. Too bad my motto is in French.  Latin might be more interesting and less weeny.

Nope, I think that's cool. There is a Jewish Buddhist monk who once said "If I had known about the Gospel of Thomas, I wouldn;t have had to become a Buddhist." Then again, many Christians don't believe in the Gospel of Thomas... Still, it's cool to learn about lots of spiritual traditions!

oh, and possum is what my partner nicknamed me a loooong time ago.

I tried a lot of things with part of my last name and what a lot of people call me -- - Fitz.  So many were taken that I just kept putting things in until I got one that wasn't taken. To be honest, I'm not all that crazy about it, but it doensn't bother me enough to try and get it changed
