I'll bite. Who else out there is racing Riverwood on the 26th? I've heard the run has a nasty hill in it? Thoughts? How well are the transition stations set up and managed?

I'll be there! I did it last year, the run had a short really steep hill early and then a long hill at the end with volunteers saying you're almost there, just to round the curve and find more hill. But the run course changes every year as the neighborhood it's in grows.

I guess we have all heard by now that the bike course changed and got longer. It will still have a couple of tough climbs at the end similar to last year. Brand new pavement covers some of the new part. I don't really like biking on Pritchard. It's a narrow country road like all the rest, just more heavily traveled. Most of the course is nicely rolling.

I probably focused too much on negatives, it was a great race last year and I'm sure it will be well run this year.

A friend from work and I did the bike and run course as training bricks before the Wilmington Tri. At the time i didn't hear about changes to the bike course.
The run course was interesting. If you like to look around, you'll be running around the pond in the subdivision, then through the neighborhood streets.
Hosetly, most of the "out" before your turnaround is flatter to downhill. After the turnaround you are basically uphill most of the run back.

Everyone's idea of hill and challenge is different. If you are in the area, you may want to go over the run course so you aren't surprised.

Good luck to you and all those participating. Wish I wasn't working that weekend.

I raced at Riverwood the past two seasons and I'd say that this race was one of my favorites. The area is absolutely beautiful.

The answer to your question is yes there is a pretty nasty hill right at the end of the run but it's a very short but steep one. I'd guess it's only about 75 yards or so but the grade is up there a bit. The finishing chute is on a slight up hill as you go around 3/4 of a round about as well. As long as you're prepared you'll do fine with the hill.

Look on the bright side. If memory serves then this is a straight out and back course so technically you get the advantage of going down the steep hill first. Not that that makes a huge difference but it's something...

Not to get you too upset but there are some pretty good hills on the bike course as well. A triathlon without hills is just not as much of a challenge.

I may be racing Riverwood. I got closed out, but one of my teammates got injured and has contacted the race director about me taking her spot. We have yet to hear back.

Thanks. Question number 2: this is my first co-ed tri. Do men and women get mixed together and start strickly on their swim times, or do they do the men first and then the women?

I'll be there!

This is a great race to kick off a season. Easy pool swim and fairly easy bike (a few rolling hills). The run course this year finishes differently than last year, but there still should be a decent climb in the last half mile.

Transition areas are well laid out and start times are based on swim speed. Set your swim time accurately.

The post race food at this race is the best of any I've done.

Sometimes it is cold the morning of the race. Be prepared for a cold first few miles on the bike. After a couple of miles you don't notice the cold anymore.

I drove the bike course yesterday and it looks like the last portion of the bike course has a STEADY uphill. We'll see on saturday.

Well, I have officially been denied. I don't even know if I will go down at this point. It kind of ticks me off. They have the money, why not let someone else race. Heck, I SUCK, it's my first tri and I just want the experience.

Oh well. Riverwood and setups loss.

MaesMama,
That's too bad. Are you signing up for the Ramblin Rose? It is in October in Chapel Hill and is lots of fun.

I am already signed up for the Ramblin Rose. I have to see how my training plan works out with my ms 150 training plan. I am also signed up for the Excellence Triathlon at Tanglewood in two weeks. I was looking forward to this weekend for the experience. I may still still come down and watch to get an idea of what to expect.

Hi all - I have done the Riverwood tri the past few years and I love it! Great course, great set up (by set up), very family friendly because there is also a little street festival going on with kiddie toys and stuff. You all are going to have a great time I'm sure.

I am not doing it this year because I am doing WL next weekend and didn't know if the back to back races would be too much. But I will probably still ride out there to spectate and cheer so if you want a little extra cheering directed your way - post your race number and swim time (if you get it before Saturday) and I'll cheer for ya if I see ya

Start times have been posted.

I go off at 8:14:30.

Nice avatar tahrens. It's good to see another Jayhawk fan in Apex! I'll try to remember to have my KU towel set out in the transition area.

Mark,

You looked great heading out on the bike, that was me that yelled at you. I apologize for not getting any pictures of you out there.

I can't believe they got the results up so fast.

I couldn't stick around because the in-laws are in town and I just couldn't bear to have them sit there all day. Now I wish I had sent them with another car. I managed to get third in my AG somehow.

i thought the race conditions were perfect this year - warm enough in the morning, not too hot out on the bike.
