Ok, so it seems i've been training slow and steady forever but yet, not at all...I let up last week due to a potential injury but feel better now and think i can get back on track w/my training.

I wanted to do the 4/26 Tri the Parks but we got great passes for Tour de Georgia so that's out. Here are my options: I'm signed up for TTP sprint on 5/10 but can move it if need be. I was thinking I'd do My Next Tri since it was closer. Then I was going to do Ptree City International Distance the next weekend. Realized that may not be such a great idea.

I guess my question is..should I warm up to the olympic w/a sprint or just say forget it and go for it? There just aren't that many olys around here and I can't do West Point because I'll be out of town.

I've done multiple sprints and one olympic in the past...Any thoughts? I know it depends on my training...I'm just curious if you'd chuck the sprint and go straight to the olympic. I'm probably being a wimp here.

I don't think you have that option because the TTP on 4/26 sold out. I would just go for the Olympic. If you've been training like you say, you'll be fine. Go for it!

Tanner (4/26 TTP sprint) is sold out so that is off your radar.

DO NOT DO My Next Tri. It's a waste of money.

PTC is in May.  They put on a great race.  You have 3 weeks to train for it (assuming 1 week to taper).  Only you know if you can do a 1 mile swim, 24 mile bike and then 6 mile run on the training you have done in the last 2 months.  Can you do it?  I think so but only you know.  I say go for it.

Another option is IronGirl.  It's in June and is a sprint.

Go for the Oly! My first ever was an Oly. Never regreted it. I love all distances though. What's the worst that could happen, complete bonk? The worst day of racing is still way better than the best day not racing. Just my thoughts. Best of Luckand have a great season.

BTW, good move on taking time off when you sensed an injury. That is one I still haven't figured out and usually get myself sidelined for a lot longer than if I just took a few days off to prevent.

Trust me I learned the hard way on the whole injury thing. I was out for a looooong time before. I'm a little gunshy, any pain and I'm freaking out!

I'll probably go for the Oly. As my husband says, use it to gauge your fitness levels and figure out where to go from there. I have lots more on the agenda this year including Irongirl.

4/26 is off my radar anyway b/c we're headed up to watch Tour de Ga w/possible VIP tent hookup from a coworker (Cross fingers!!!)

Why is My Next a waste? Just wondering. The only reason I considered is location but I think I'm going Ptree City anyway.

Not that you asked about IronGirls, but I thought I'd throw out there that it's a really good and fun race!!

I did My First/Next Tri last year. I rather enjoyed it. That may be me, but I don't worry about much... The answer to your question lies in your training and goals. If you feel you can cover the distances, then I say go for it. If you can't or can't cover them at a pace you would be happy with, then start off with a sprint. Check out the tris at SetupEvents.com as well. I am doing my first race (Oly) of the year in South Carolina and another Oly in North Carolina in August.

Do the PTC international. They run great races down there. Really, Sprints are a lot of fun, but you do not need to work your way up to Olympic. I think it's a little over blown. I trained with 2 beginners last year who's first race was St. Anthony's Olympic, and they did great. So will you. Keep training, and be confident.

PTC is a great race, well run also.

My First/My next Tri's are a  complete waste of money. This guy comes down from Vancouver and puts on a crappy race and then leaves.

PTC international is a great race- It was my first oly last year. Those folks know how to put up a first class event.

I too have heard that my first/next tri is a little less organized/supported than most area races.
