Spotsylvania, Virginia

Set-Up, Inc

Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 39m 31s
Overall Rank = 151/371
Age Group = M 30-34
Age Group Rank = 31/63
Pre-race routine:

Hung out in the rain, found some cover under the bathrooms/snack room. Put on wetsuit early and hung out with VAMDDCBTTCers
Event warmup:

Rain stopped, went down to the beach, got into the water and stayed in to stay warm. Funny when the water at Kinetic is warmer than outside.
Swim
  • 16m 21s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 11s / 100 meters
Comments:

Started at the front of the wave. Last time I started at the back of the wave, and got kicked in the face and had to battle through slow swimmers. This time, no contact with anyone. Swim felt great, but was surprised when got out of the water and my watch read 16 minutes.. feel better when I saw that even the fastest swim time was 2 minutes slower than last year, so I think the course was long 150-200m.
What would you do differently?:

I was sighting the second bouy well, but right at the end had to make a quick left turn to get around. That probably cost a few seconds, other than that hit my goal.
Transition 1
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

Time in T1 good, indecisiveness bad. Need to make decisions and stick to it.
What would you do differently?:

Decisions
Bike
  • 51m 29s
  • 18 miles
  • 20.98 mile/hr
Comments:

Left Transition thinking I would need the arm warmers for the bike, didn't put them on but instead decided to do it on the bike. Started running with the bike, but didn't execute the running jump. Then struggled to put on the arm warmers which waisted a bunch of time. Once I got going the course was good, passed a bunch of people and only passed by a few on sweet rides. Took off my glasses half way through do to the heavy rain making it hard to see through them. Enjoyed the sting of the rain on eyes for the rest of the ride. Getting off, I came to mostly a stop instead of the flying dismount.
What would you do differently?:

Not fuss with stuff, just get on and ride.. work on getting on and off faster
Transition 2
  • 02m 8s
Comments:

Fussed with socks since I have not trained sockless, couldn't get the right shoe on easily.
What would you do differently?:

Train sockless
Run
  • 27m 1s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

The hill out was tough, then the knee started to hurt. I couldn't push any harder without increasing pain, so did what I could which results in a HR of low Z3.
What would you do differently?:

Fix knee, and train train train
Post race
Warm down:

Met everyone at the line, took some pictures, headed over to get some grub. Nice plate of pasta, then hit up the candy bar for some oreos, krackle, and mike and ikes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bad choices, bad knee, bad runner

Event comments:

I want to get revenge on this course, I think I should have been able to do a 1:35 this year, and know if I was healthy on the run and without the long swim I could hit it.. I think this is a great first tri to see how effective off season training was.. and renting the house with others and cheering on the half was a blast.. see you next year Kinetic

Bro... Just loosen up them shoe laces, your running shoes don't need to be tight, it is not basketball or tennis; then your feet will slip right in.

Great report, I like the part about the rain stinging your eyes.  Enjoy Seattle man.
