Event comments:

It was cold outside so I put on the Under Armor and some other layers.
We headed over to the Church half hour before the race. We bumped into alot of neighboors and Eileen. Kids and I did a warm up and stretched.
We could feel the strong cold wind. We lined up in front and off we went.
There were about 5 people in front of me. I managed to pass a teenager and I could also see Eileeen in front of me by 30 seconds. 1st mile they shouted out 6:53. Wow it must be the wind on my back. Second mile they shouted out 14min. I thought I must be slowing down. I could see Eileen turning on the worng street but I also saw the other runners in front turn.
I turned and almost passed one other turn towards the finish line.
I knew the people in front of me were younger and a women so I could possible win an award. I ran back to find my kids and motivate them to finish strong. They said they were feeling fine and sticking to the plan of keeping a steady pace. I told them if they had anything left to kick in gear. They did and they started sprinting. there were other kids in front of them so I knew they would place in the age of 17 and under.
Yeah I won first place in my age group, Eileen won first place in her age group. It was okay and I would have placed the same since there was no runners behind us that would have caught up.

Congrats on the AG win!  The wind must have been in your favor.  It is an awesome gift to your kids to lead by example through exercise.  Don't you think?

What a great race Griz.  Congrats on the age group award.  I agree with the poster above that it's wonderful the way you set such a good example for your kids.  You Chicago runners are fast!  Cute picture too!
