Swim
Comments: Swim was over pretty quick. Hard to get into a good rhythm with lots of people, wind, chop and freezing cold water - I never wanted to keep my face in!! But looks like I came out a lot better than last year, so overall I'm happy with it! What would you do differently?: Not do it again next year! Why am I so dumb? Transition 1
Comments: T1 was pretty good, suit and cap off while running into transition. Shoes on bike already so I just whipped my helmet/glasses on and got my wetsuit off - a bit stuck on the heels - but at least I made the spectators there laugh! What would you do differently?: More body glide!! Bike
Comments: Thought I was doing pretty good on the bike. I had deep carbon wheels on (85mm deep) which during the headwind/crosswind sections made things pretty tough, but the way back with the tailwind it was nice. I was trying to push a bit on the bike to see what I could do, but I'm not great at the shorter events. Kept up okay and had a good time out there, even though my teeth were chattering from being SO COLD!! I was only wearing a wet tri top and shorts - no gloves, socks, or anything else! What would you do differently?: Not forget my arm warmers in transition. Work on getting more short course speed. Transition 2
Comments: Trying to get running shoes on FAST while your feet are frozen is not fun! I was trying to jam my foot into my shoe and couldn't figure out why it wasn't going in - I had 2 toes OUTSIDE the shoe!!! But my feet were frozen so I couldn't tell!! Oh well, eventually got it together! What would you do differently?: Make sure my toes go into my shoe? Run
Comments: I felt pretty good on the run, started out with a quick cadence to get my running legs back again and started immediately making up ground on the next guy up. Never drank or had gels or anything - I knew I didn't have time for that stuff!! What I got on the bike was going to have to do! Basically, not much to say, just kept a good steady pace and felt really strong the whole time! What would you do differently?: Not a lot actually, could've pushed more and a little earlier if I had a little more in me. Post race
Warm down: light stretching and changed into warm clothes right away. What limited your ability to perform faster: It was a B race so I wasn't fully rested, but the weather played a huge factor in it. Event comments: I love the race except for the weather/water. Post race activities will get better as the race grows (this is only the second year). Last updated: 2008-02-18 12:00 AM

Drove out to Cultus Lake in the morning, weather was crappy, raining most of the way, cold and very windy - perfect! :)
Nothing unusual, checked in, got body marked, set up transition, checked out the lake - freezing of course! And sat in the car for a bit to warm up.
Not much, putting my wetsuit on is a workout in itself!
