Total Time = 1h 20m 58s
Overall Rank = 56/235
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 1/6
Pre-race routine:

usual, up at 5, walked the dog, made the bed, got dressed (not in that order...!) and headed out. Uneventful drive, beuatiful clouds and sky on the way in!
Event warmup:

none, had to be out of transition so early, and out of the water! Ah well, best laid plans...
Swim
  • 14m 43s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

wow, lots of waves/chop! Made breathing to the left on the way out, right on back tough! Got me well hydrated for the bike! Had my best pace ever in a swim, makes me wonder if it was short!
What would you do differently?:

warm up
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

will add t1 time later...didn't have the split! pretty good transition, very happy to see only 6 bikes out of our wave (all women 35 and over).
Sucked down a quick drink on just before leaving.
What would you do differently?:

not much, pretty happy with it.
Bike
  • 38m 1s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 19.73 mile/hr
Comments:

good ride. A bit of lightening at the beginning, off in the distance, but cleared nicely and stayed dry!! (a solid prayer at the beginning of the bike for dry roads and safety for all of the athletes) Alot of "tag your it" with one guy for the last half of the bike. Really keeps you motivated. (I beat him at the end!!)not 23k, more like 20k
What would you do differently?:

keep hammering the whole ride, couple of times realized I was just riding hard, not totally hammering it, which I should of, since it was a sprint!
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Good drink just before leaving transition, gel in hand.
What would you do differently?:

put my race belt on while running, not in transition! (I actually thought this during T2, but since I had already started, finished it) Yankz (I know I said this last race, and even was given a pair by the rep at work...just too busy to put them on!)
Run
  • 24m 52s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

seemed more down hill than up, but that is not possible! They did a good job of adding mulch to the muddy spots, so my shoes stayed clean!(though it was deep mulch, and you would lose speed through it) The altered course took out the biggest hill...YEAH! Great slo downhill finish. Realized @ mile 1 my hip/groin was not hurting!! Happy dance! Some pain by 3rd mile but tolerable.
What would you do differently?:

push a bit harder. I did run hard, but maybe could have been SLIGHTLY faster??
Post race
Warm down:

uh, not much. Went back to find Terri (joe runner) after I got some water and walked a bit. Almost missed her at the finish!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Can't complain or blame much. A bit of pain, but do not think that limited me.

Event comments:

I switched from the Olympic to the Sprint due to groin injury. Really am glad I did. Hope this helps for Elkhart next week. The timing system was off by 3 minutes.Race distance off... I did all my report based on my watch splits. Award ceremony took forever to start, but then very rapid. They forgot all about Athena/Clydsdale, I want up 3 times and asked about it. They FINALLY did it probably 10-15 minutes after the rest were done. (I wasn't about to let a fellow donkey not get her award!!!) Nice course, fairly well run, save the one busy intersection that had NO ONE stationed at it!

Wow.  Great race.  You defintely have the speed of the donkey (not the animal, more the aura of the donkey).

THANKS everyone...finally have more of a diagnosis for my injury, most likely a ileopsoas tendonitis. so called "very tough to treat" per Jamie, my sports ortho doc.
I love being a Donkey! Its great racing with a bunch of really great guys/girls after 10 seasons of racing on my own!
